Last question:

Nothing in the online process prompted me to enroll in autopay and go to paperless billing which seems odd. And when I went to the autopay enrollment screen, there was no "save $10" message there either.

Are all of you just signing up for autopay and paperless billing and waiting for the discount to appear on the bill or is there a prompt or a promo code I missed?

BJ

Sign up and wait for the discount. As of now, my auto-pay is still with a CC, so I won't even be getting that discount for the time being. Have to switch it over.

Debit card should qualify, and be treated same from credit card one can assume right?

Because there's two options
checking/savings account
credit/debit card

and they aren't separated from there

Debit does qualify. I just like using the CC for miles/points. Its an easy 200 miles. Gotta figure out the value of each.

I wonder why credit card is excluded. Maybe they want to ensure they're going to receive their funds and not go hunting it down? To ensure stockholders of steady revenue? I dunno

Companies (banks and credit card companies) charge a fee every time a credit card is used. Its typically only like $.50 but still a fee. That is why when you go to small mom and pop shops it will say "No CC for purchases under $10". Stupid, AT&T should just give a $9 dollar a month discount for CC users.

ah, they round up 0.50 to 10 :D att math

still so torn on whether to stay unlimited plus or just go 20% off solo t-mobile one unlimited plan

better coverage in my neighborhood, but around the city may be a wash and may be nice to have att rural coverage fallback if I ever do go to more sparse coverage areas,

but I'm debating this one in my own thread of ATT v. TMo showdown

Yeah I saw over there, was reading through it. Personally I wouldn't switch yet. Its not costing you $56 a month currently, so might as well save the money in the meantime. Then, when you are ready to go Solo, TMO might have better coverage. They are definitely improving. TMO will always have deals, so the fear of missing out on this one is understandable, but its only a matter of time till something as good or better comes out.

Yeah I guess that's the main thing making me think should I go for it is that conditional 20 percent off to bring down to 56 a month. But you're also right not currently paying anything so maybe should stay put and be hopeful TMo gets more competitive when the time comes

if anything, been reading that T Mobile and Bill credits are a migraine and you have to strong-arm their customer support every month for an adjustment. Its kinda like a sleazy marketing thing to honor it, and have 'mistakes' but have slick deal people call in every month to save some money they thought they were going to.

so I'd be looking at $56 after 20% off list $70/1 line

or 3 lines $140 less 20% total of $112 after taxes and fees which isn't bad at all but implication of moving parents in another state to T-Mo and maybe having spotty coverage, a nightmare potentially.

glad I didn't do 2 lines/$100 or 2 lines still running + third free, as both involve bill credits.
my understanding is 2 lines/$100 is after $20 bill credits, and 2/lines+third for credit is $20 bill credits and $40 bill credits for third line, too since 3 lines is normally $140.

headache!

Maybe they will have the free iPhone 8 deal they are having with the 7. At least get something out of it by switching.

I've heard thats been a headache to have honored too 'free' iPhone deals,

just from skimming slickdeals

but I'm speaking from observation of comments, not experimentally :D

but that's always a thought, too, have them roll out the red carpet if I switch

I just wonder if 20% will be a pipe dream in due time, and I want to switch, and have hosed myself.

I ended up switching to T-mobile to try it out because I couldn't pass up the price of unlimited everything for $56 for life - more than 1/2 of what I was paying on ATT. Plus, I get 150 if I stay for another month to 6 weeks - which means that I am basically getting free service while I try out TM.

I figured that worst case is TM sucks and I either go back to ATT (if they eventually allow FANs to be used with unlimited data plan or I move to Verizon. So far, TM's coverage in LA is ok. I have only noticed 1-2 times that I was having poor reception.

If you get the $10 monthly discount would be a better than miles ?
Typically 10,000 miles = $100 dollars

Not necessarily. An AAdvantage Flight one way with MileSaver is 12,500 miles. That could be a $400 dollar flight. So in this case, miles are worth more than $10 savings.

When you are talking point based miles, then yes you are correct. But actual miles, saving miles is more valuable. It's entirely dependent on the company. Chase and Capital One are point based miles, Citi is actual mileage that is transferred to AA.

Autopay properly set up now,

on target for $165+taxes+fees for 3 lines Unlimited+ ATT fingers crossed. I wonder what the bottom line billing will be when the cycles have run their course to let it all be a relatively fixed predictable amount.

Not bad, all things considered. May have to table the TMO single line 20% off offer for now, but tempting too

Don't table it for too long.. I think it expires at the end of the month.

My bill for this month was $194.42 after taxes and without the $10 auto-pay. I'm still in the process of working with AT&T executive about where my FAN discount is after having chat transcripts saying that it will be applied. He credited me $24.15 for this morning (which what the FAN should have been). So, so far they are following their word.

Exactly my predicament, the other thing I debate is if t-mo is better or worse when I travel in general, compared to what I'm used to .

the unknown factor frightens me a little, but $56/1 line unlimited is about as sweet as anything will get for some time, I suspect

:( that 20% will not last, so I need to decide soon

I see, so maybe you'll have to do manual discount to apply FAN? Since you have it in writing?

We'll see. The executive I spoke to said the FAN should have auto-applied but notated my account that if it does not next month to call back in and they will manually add the $24.15 credit. This is why I get everything in writing. AT&T has burned me before and since then the first thing I ask for is our conversation in writing. Whether its emailed to me after the phone call or me saving the chat transcript. AT&T needs to be held accountable for their words, even if it was a mistake. They are advertising something.

I wish the best for ya!

In the end mine isn't a bad deal, to know what i already got reception wise.

There are worse options than ATT (sprint, verizon)

Same here, autopay and paperless set up, I'm at $205 a month for 5 lines unlimited+ data and hotspot.

Last month, my AT&T bill was $411 dollars for the same 5 lines, no hotspot, just nickel and dimed to death by 3 teenagers and their Snapchat Instragram data overage fees. This new plan is a huge win for me (and my teenagers social lives).

I've often wondered if SnapChat, FB and Instagram work with carriers to increase data so they profit from overages. :D SnapChat doesn't even use full high-res photos/videos yet is consumes data like crazy.

How can u have overages being on UDP?or was it a bucket of data share gb?

It's a conspiracy, no question about it.

I sound like my grandfather looking down on the Beatles and their long hair (shakes cane) but I cannot believe the social media nonsense my kids do each day. Endlessly scrolling through an Instagram news feed, double-tapping a like for every photo, hundreds of photos a day, keeping something called Snapchat 'streaks' alive. It burns through data like a pig.

I can go to Hong Kong and China and make a 120 MB dataplan work for 10 days, they blow through 1 GB of data a week. Insanity. ATT must send a gift basket to every Instagram and Snapchat employee. Every day.

I think he had two UDP and then 3 3GB plans.

Yes, that's right. My wife and I had the grandfathered UDP from 8 years ago when my 3 teenagers were in diapers.

As they got older, we got them the $30 3GB dataplans plus the $10 fee to share calls/texts, they were costing us $40 a month each. But the aforementioned Snapstagram and Instachat social networking phenomena which has infested our schools was literally costing me an average of $70 to $100 in overages every month. And no matter how many threats or how many times I sent nasty texts to my teens, the data sewer just kept overflowing.

My kids woke up to unlimited data plans and you'd think I bought each of them a BMW they were so happy.

BJ

My in-laws told me about Tmobile's promo to add another line on the family plan. I get unlimited data and pay $30/month. Even better, when we go overseas, I don't have to search for a local sim; the plan has (slow) international data.
I was paying about twice that to at&t. Since AT&T sent me a letter about the price increase on grandfathered, I was pissed.
When I called to cancel, they were trying to price match...too little too late.
