It seems like CBS would want in on a subscription cash cow it that what it turns out to be. Unknown if that will be the case.

Makes me wonder if CBS will let its agreement with Netflix expire and we'll soon see all of the TV series disappear off of it. If that happens, I may have to buy the DVDs/BR's. I already have a subscription with Netflix and Amazon Prime. I do NOT need any more than that!

No. It's already been delayed 9 months. It will be premiering on Sept. 24.

Yes, that is my understanding as well. It's still on for 9/24, this is just explaining why it was delayed for 9 months. It's poorly worded which could give the reader the impression that it's delayed ANOTHER 9 months (and was my first impression as well).

From what I've been seeing on the subject, it's not going well. At all. I might catch the premiere on CBS, but my expectations are already very low.

So is anyone watching the show? How is it?

I am not watching because I'm in the USA and I'm not going to pay for CBS All-Access. I will certainly catch it if/when it moves to a service I use or if CBS airs reruns free over the air. (I'm one of those nutbars with an antenna.)

This turned up on Netflix here in Norway. So happy for that sp I didn’t have to find other sources on the internet.

I like the show and so far have seen five episodes. Heard that a season 2 is already green lit!

I would think it was great if it was set in Abrams universe. Or if they had set it outside canon.

But because they claim it is in the same universe we know, I have many issues with the show.

Setting aside the special effects aspect (I do not understand why they did not just set the series at some point after TNG/DS9/VOY where it absolutely would not have looked weird to have "futuristic" effects), there are still many things to nitpick on:

Why make the character an adopted sister to Spock when she's never been heard of
Why incorporate technology that was shown in previous shows to have been invented later
Why incorporate technology that doesn't even exist in any of the futur shows
Why remake Klingons and make them so ugly? A previously unknown race would have worked just as well
Why is Sonequa Martin Green cast in this at all

Jason Isaacs is a highlight though, but it seems like they're trying too hard to make him seem mysterious

The highlight so far, i think, has been Rainn Wilson's portrayal of Harry Mudd and to be honest, it's not saying that much about the show

I haven't seen anything past E1, but the more I learn about the show online (don't mind the spoilers), the less I want to watch it...

We got "The Orville" and FREE nonetheless... ;)

I am enjoying The Orville far more than I thought I would and more than Discovery.

Ha, ha....

It is like one of the top shows right now, on BitTorrent...

;)

Actually, I'm wanting to watch it even less - I guess the Discovery's "new" weapon is the F-Bomb...

didn't care for that part, I see they got plenty of backlash over it as well. overall I am happy but want to see it get a bit more on the "nerd" side vs just action

That's one of the main complaints. Gene always thought ST should be "above the norm" - hence integrated crews, interesting topics, etc., you cannot find on mainstream television.

Using harsh swearwords is essentially just mainstream television...

(let's not even mention the SJW "checklist" shows are starting to implement)

Vulcan Ambassador Sarek Links Star Trek: Discovery To The Original Series
The fan-favorite character returns for the next chapter in the franchise.

As the Vulcan father of Spock, Ambassador Sarek is unique to Star Trek: Discovery in that he is one of the few characters to directly tie back to the first Star Trek TV show.

In the upcoming CBS All Access original series—which is set 10 years before Captain Kirk's five-year mission—the ever-logical alien is portrayed by James Frain and is revealed to be the foster father of human First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), the main character of Star Trek: Discovery. Watch what the actor has to say about Sarek in the video above.

I apologize if I’ve asked this before.
I noticed several rates for CBS All Access. I’m wondering if you go with the cheaper rate, are you able view Season 1 of Star Trek Discovery? I presume Season 1 is complete.

Oh, is this show worth paying for?

Not sure about the CBS rates, but as for if it is worth watching, I think it really depends on how attached you are to the tone and style of the previous Star Trek shows. I caught an episode, and it’s not for me. It played as a sci-fi action show with Star Trek branding and didn’t resonate with me at all.

Nothing I have read about this series to date suggests that I would like it very much. If at all.

I know I said previously that I wouldn't pay for CBS All Access, but I caved and purchased it.

Discovery is a very good series so far and I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and eagerly await the second season.

I was skeptical of it at first and through probably half of the season until it was revealed what really is happening and then I understood. At that point I really fell in love with it.

There are various easter eggs, flash forwards and throwbacks to TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise throughout and if you've seen all of the other series they help build the story of Discovery. There are still some unanswered questions and I am looking forward to finding out those answers.

There is a particular episode of DS9 that ties together TOS, TNG and Discovery with regards to the Klingons and that's one of the things I'm looking forward to seeing how they play it all out.

CBS has a free trial period. I am considering signing up some day when I have time to binge watch the complete series within the limits of the trial period.

But might also just wait for it to hit Netflix USA.

Are you referring to DS9: Trials and Tribble-ation? Why Klingons didn't have cranial ridges during Kirk's time but have them again by TNG. Enterprise already told that back story in two episodes: Affliction and Divergence. Klingons tried to create the own "augments" (genetically enhanced) Klingons to as a counter to human augments.

Yes, I am.

The last time I saw the Enterprise episode, and its been a little while, I felt that there was still more to be reveled on that particular storyline via Disco.
