I'm a big Sci-fi fan, I'll watch almost anything. But I found Discovery hard to like.
It has its upsides - some spectacular visuals (especially if watching in Dolby Vision); and I love how they've gone with a very different, diverse Klingon race and culture.
But I think the storyline for me just stomps over the Star Trek work/lore too much. The technology is just too powerful and the event that unfold too drastic. It seems everyone wants to do the 'alternate timeline, so we can change everything' path. I think there's always a problem too with sci-fi prequels - a more 'advanced' audience has more advanced expectations of future technology, but prequels demand less advanced technology.
Other than the main character (and/or actor Sonequa Martin Green) who I like, none of the other characters seemed strong enough for me. I love Michelle Yeoh as an actor, but for me she can't carry the role of a villain. Mary Wiseman's Sylvia Tilly character 'grounds' things for me (which I like) though her character does seem a bit out of place. Jason Isaacs has his moments..
It just doesn't do it for me at all. Plus, 95% of the entire show seems to be [something dramatic happens: cue shots of the bridge crew turning around looking surprised]
