A 20" laptop is NOT portable. Sure you can lug it around but it's not a LAPtop anymore. I would much rather get an iMac or just an external monitor for a 15" or 17" laptop. I don't even like 17" laptops. They're just too big for me. I think 15" is the perfect size for a laptop.

Heh, it reminds me of the old days, where they used the term luggable (not laptop/portable/etc). :D

I used to think 15" was a good size for a laptop until I used 17" now 15" is too small and 13" is just a toy!

I would but would want a touch screen, bluray burner, 1080p screen, and room for 2 hard drives and an ssd for the operating system.

It is? So if I purchased the 17" MBP and an external bluray player the movies would look as good on there as they do on my HDTV?

The 17" is 1920x1200; the same resolution as 24" computer monitors and higher resolution than any HDTV in the Western Hemisphere.

Oh, and no, you can't play Blu-ray movies made in Hollywood. Too bad for you.

This is good to know. What is the resolution of the 13" MBP?

PS: I would use windows via bootcamp for bluray.

I might buy one if I wanted a cleaner desk. Think about it: a 20" laptop would have to clean up some clutter, right?

With a 2560x1600 display? Sounds fun. Not sure I'd buy it, probably too big to every use as portable.

No. I wouldn't buy an iMac either.

QFT. im slowly moving away from the mac scene and moving towards the hackintosh machine - i already have one and it is beginning to come my main machine.

if the 20" was powerful enough (quad core etc), and had good expandability, and i was rich (keep dreaming) i would most certainly buy it. i would use it away on trips etc. would be useless as a main machine though.

discuss.
Also what specs would be required for you to buy one.
the imaginary price is $2799

I'd buy one. Definitely. In fact I posted a thread about a 19" or 21" MBP back in June. I do think there is a gap in the market for a larger MBP. All the naysayers knock its "not portable" - well look at the size of your fathers/grandfathers briefcase. A 20" MBP will be similar in size. So a 20: is not portable is a weak argument. Also I suspect the market for these would be people who move their laptop around the house. Like from the living room to the bedroom to watch DVDs/movies on. Maybe take it to a client meeting to do a presentation on.

I cannot honestly see why anyone would want a 20 inch laptop.
Nevertheless...
I made a mockup!
Couple of different ideas here.
Attachment 1: 20" MacBook Pro with number pad (borrowed from my idea here)
Attachment 2: 20" MacBook Pro with full Apple Keyboard
Attachment 3: 20" MacBook Pro with silly iPhone dock idea.

These are purely for mockup purposes. Don't actually want any of them.

EDIT: just realised ive done the size ratio for the iphone terribly wrong i am fixing it

I think attachments 1&2 work. But iphone dock is horrible though

That would force the iphone to never change design.
