that wasnt sarcasm. are you aware of any current computers that can disconnect from their main-board and turn into a less powerful, more portable machine? i cant think of any.

at 20", it would have to have 2 hard drives and SLI video cards, at least!
one would hope so, but being apple that would not happen.

what about the "main" part has quad core, 2xgpus, 2xHDDs etc, then you disconnect the "main" part and it turns into a weaker (maybe the 2ghz mobile chip, remember how apple bought that company?) computer that is portable and can be a tablet.

yup, nope, cant think of any companies that currently do that  ;)

A 20 inch laptop wouldn't even fit on my desk, much less in my lap. What's the point of a laptop if you can't use it as a laptop?

I would not ever. Nor would I ever buy an iMac, its either a MacBook Pro 15" max or a Mac Pro (if it had to be Mac for desktops I prefer PC's please dont kill me).

I'm holding out for the 60" plasma screen with the dual AC/Delco car batteries and quad Xeons.

Seriously, I went back and forth for a month between the 15 & 17 MBP before reluctantly ordering the 17. I like the screen real estate but if I weren't using it primarily for video editing, I would definitely go smaller not larger. A 20" laptop would likely be less than 1% of sales.

Actually, someone I work with bought his wife some ungodly 20" behemoth from Dell a couple of Christmases ago. It was hilarious. Basically looked like a small suitcase when it was closed up.

She kept it for a few weeks then returned it and bought guess what...a MacBook Pro.

Hmmm no I wouldn't - but interesting thread. For me, my laptop is all about the best combination of portability and power I can get. Then when I work from home, I plug it into my 24" external monitor and I've got big screen goodness. so no... I don't want / need a 20" macbook... although it sure would be fun to see one! :D

It would be hard for me to buy a 15" model let alone a 20" beast. I love portability, if I needed 20+ inches I would plug in my macbook to my 24" monitor.:apple:
