I have definitely noticed how much YouTube has sucked lately. I also agree with the poster who noticed how the commercials seem to have no problem, but I've found this on almost every website (they definitely want to make sure you see those commercials!).

One thing I think I noticed is that YouTube no longer streams as a single "file". Instead, the video is broken up into multiple files. I noticed this when trying to "download" the videos the way I used to, but it was no longer on big file. It also seems to re-buffer every time you jump time, which is REALLY annoying.

Do you have any evidence of it or is it just Google bashing, because I have the problem in Chrome - the only browser I use.

I use Safari, Firefox, and Chrome at multiple locations.

Since iPad came out, Google has been throttling non Chrome YouTube views.

It's obvious because on other browsers, YouTube download would load quickly for a few seconds, then slows to crawl.

You completely ignored the part where I said it happens to me on Chrome

No matter the pipe I throw at it, I always have problems with YouTube. Even with 40 Mbps at work. On top of that larger videos will only load so far. They do not let you preload a video like they once did since you might not even watch the entire thing.

I thought it was just me, but Im glad to see others have this issue as well, meaning its a fault on Youtube/Google's end. I frequently have to turn down the quality just to get some vids to load up.

Same. Maybe google are turning down the bandwidth on the servers. They get so many hits it doesn't matter about the user experience anymore. Could this mean bye bye preloading?

i just started having this issue a couple of days ago. we switched to fios a few months back and i've been watching videos without a problem. now, as of the beginning of this week it seems like i can't load a video. what is this solution that was given? i right click on the video, but i'm not seeing a folder. am i missing something?

also, i do watch tv episodes that i can find through youtube. is it possible that i'm being blocked by my isp or by youtube? if so, can i fix it?

nevermind, i found the folder and set it to unlimited...sadly, it did absolutely nothing.

My take on the Youtube problems over FIOS

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. I live in NJ about 30 minutes from NY. Its seems to have started around 2 or 3 weeks ago. YouTube works great all day and then around 6:30pm-ish I notice the dramatic slowness on Youtube only. Netflix, Hulu and Crackle all stream perfectly. So as I said it starts around 6:30 and last past midnight. The next day all is well again. The time frame of when it happens - Its the only thing that is consistent with this issue.

I use OpenDNS so naturally I thought that might be the problem. I turned it off and changed my DNS to the default automatic Verizon DNS. This did not help at all.

I tried updating my Flash, browsers and even tested IE 9 in Parallels. Still the slowness continues.

Last night I called Verizon. The first level of support tech confirmed that my internet speed was more than an acceptable level (25DL/6UL) over wireless for viewing streaming video. He did a remote session and tested Netflix which worked perfectly. Then he tried a few different youtube videos and each video stops playing after 2 seconds every time. I asked him if FIOS was doing any type or throttling or packet shaping. He said Verizon would never do that. I was not convinced otherwise after an hour or trace routes and speed tests I just had enough.

I went back to googling and found a few ways to test and prove its a Verizon issue.

The first thing I did was use my iphone to view that same videos over AT&Ts 3G network. Even on AT&T with crappy service the youtube videos play pretty smoothly.

The second thing I did was view the same videos via a free proxy website.
proxy*****DOTCom
See for yourself. Youtube with the Proxy plays great. Without the proxy it just hangs.

So I guess you say I have a work around with the proxy sites but lets face it, its not a real fix but it does prove that its a verizon issue.

The last thing I will leave you with is a step by step on how to block certain Youtube caching server IPs. Some people online have said this works and other say its useless. You be the judge.

I tried this a few nights ago and it did not work. Maybe it will for one of you.
Good luck to all of you.

Looking at your signature reminded me it is Obama who we should be blaming.

I would have partially labeled this thread "What is to blame?" not "who". :)

Youtube 1080p works perfectly fine on my 25/4 connection on Comcast.
Have you tried clearing your cache and doing all of those other suggested tweaks?

Maybe try HTML5 youtube see if it loads better

I had the same problem with Chrome and gave up using that. Is this primarily a Mac problem or are PC users having the same issues.

I have the same issues on both my MBP and PC, but it's more random than consistent. I think it's on Youtube's end. Reason being is some videos I have no problem playing at 1080p then other videos are a pain to play at 1080p. Every once in a while I run into a video that barely loads even on a low resolution. I have a 50dwn 7up connection.
