What airport does UPS fly into for NYC deliveries? I'm wondering if the boroughs will possibly be affected.

They do have a hub at PHL, but they do have a station at KEWR. My guess is the former, but there's a chance for the latter, depending on any TFRs in the area.

I'm seeing "expect heavy delays" on lighted signs on everyhighway here in north jersey. Good thing I reserved mine, I can waltz in at 8:30 and waltz back out and not have to worry.

So is the pope doing a parade in the moving bullet proof bubble or what? Is the issue a lot of people traveling to see him, or is it simply a matter of security and street closings?

The popemobile? If I remember right, he ask them to scrap it, along with this Harley. I'll try to find the article on that..

I just got the dreaded "potential delay in delivery email". I literally live right across from the UPS sorting facility in Midtown (like I can walk there in less than a minute). I wonder if I can just figure out a way to get them to just hold it there.

The last time I got a shipment from there...it didn't deliver until 7PM. Seems like their routes are to drop off shipments in the same neighborhood last before heading back to the facility!

Dude I would definitely put a hold on that puppy, that Local delivery guy is going to be so stressed by the end of the day he will be drop kicking your phone Down the street.

If you plan to request a hold, you should do so ASAP. Doing it any day later could delay your order altogether.

And yes, delivery trucks in Manhattan start from the Uptown neighborhoods and work their way down to their designated hubs.

I got the email as well. My phone is coming to my office, so a Saturday delivery won't do anything for me. I work in SoHo and UPS usually comes in the morning, so I'm hoping it'll still arrive on Friday...

Also, I wonder if they'll prioritize business deliveries over residential?

tracking is out and leaving harrisburg. there is definitely potential for thur. pope doesn't get there till latepm

Seriously doubt there'll be an early delivery. Not that it would do any good as NYC is already going to be a mess on Thursday. The pope may not be arriving til that night but they're already making preparations for his visit. On top of that the UN General Assembly will be in full swing by then, which by itself is already a beast that cripples midtown Manhattan annually.

Just logged into My UPS and I asked them to hold the shipment for a pick up at their customer center. Hopefully no more issues!

There's no reason why they should. Otherwise they should also prioritize by gender, race, and religion too.

I thought i remembered hearing once that they deliver to businesses first, then residential buildings. I know they don't deliver to my apt. until the evening, but maybe that isn't an overall rule.

I actually think that attempting to deliver on Saturday is a good thing and I appreciate Apple making the effort. I was already resigned to having to wait until Monday. (Notice though that the email doesn't promise you'll get it Saturday, just that it'll be attempted for most locations.)

But if you have the sorting facility across the street from you then it's worth it to have them hold it there for you to pick up.

Already logged on to the site and put a hold at their facility. Maybe if I push my luck, I can pick it up Thursday! That might be pushing it though. :)

Sorry sounds like you are on the east side. Technically they could go out wednesday it only takes one day from that PA distribution center- its really for NYC only there to save on real estate costs. Apple could technically pay UPS to hand deliver certain items. But business critical deliveries would probably more important than our dumb iphones.

I should also mention my zip code isn't listed as one of the "affected" zip codes but I still received the email nonetheless.

Then hopefully for your sake it is just apple being overly cautious. It's a lot better publicity for them if they warn everyone in New York that it might be delayed and then you have a lot of happy people if they actually come on time than if they only warn people in the affected zip codes and the delays spill out of there and you have a lot of people mad that they didn't get their phone and they didn't get a warning about it.
