Porsche is off my list of next cars then.

Also i believe its only an option - not a standard.

Maybe they just care about their customers privacy (Germany is much more concerned with that stuff than we are over here in the U.S.).

Seems like a rational choice from a privacy standpoint.

Yeah, remember Google got busted in Germany for collecting all kinds of information via streetview that wasn't permissible under German law.

I sent my Porsche 911 back after discovering a slight scuff mark underneath one of the rear wheel arches. I'm now keeping mine in a case. I also heard that people using petrol in their cars sometimes have performance issues. I'm jailbreaking and going to load the steam engine on it.

Yep, you win this thread! Good thing most people aren't as obsessive as those on this site are.

Did you have any plans to buy a Porsche and use Android Auto, or are you just upset that another company seemingly favors an Apple product?

Porsche has announced that its forthcoming 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S will support Apple's CarPlay platform. According to Moto Trend (via AppleInsider), Porsche selected CarPlay over Android Auto because under the agreement of partnering with Google, certain amounts of data would have been sent to the search giant.

Some of this data would have included vehicle speed, throttle position, and engine revs, all points of information that would constantly be flowing back to Google's headquarters each time a driver gets in the car. Comparatively, all Apple's CarPlay requires to know is whether the car is accelerating while the system is being used.
Porsche's reasoning behind the decision points to not wanting to share the information with Google that could include the ingredients to its "secret sauce that makes its cars special," along with the fact that Google is reportedly building its own car at the moment. A few other vehicle manufacturers have announced support for CarPlay, but the service is just this year beginning to see a wider release despite being announced -- as "iOS in the Car" -- over two years ago.

Since Google is officially getting into the car game, it is interesting to see if other car makers will have similar reactions. A few years from now Google will be directly competing with car makers based on the data they collected and sold to advertisers. Why should car makers give them that advantage?

actually, for me, my first filter is whether it supports both Carplay and Android Auto or just one or the other. My next car would need to support BOTH, in case I have the itch to switch phones back and forth, which I tend to do.

Then...I look at price ;)

I am afraid if I could afford a Porsche I would demand they fit an Android Auto head unit.

AA is a far superior solution to car play in that it provides on the go access to google search by voice.

I love Apple products but Google in my car is far more helpful. I understand Porsches reasoning but it sounds like that are scared of Google which is weird as they own VW (which is VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley).

If your first concern is what kind of software platform overlays on the infotainment system and second priority is price, a Porsche is the incorrect vehicle for you.

This is an interesting point, especially since VW one of the first manufactures to integrate Android Auto into their 2016 vehicle lineup. You would think they would have taken this stand with all of the corporation's marques.

Who care about Google and their restrictions!
Bring CarPlay to the current generation of Porsches (Cayenne in my case) make us happy!

You're telling me my man. I wish I could get a software update for the pcm. Just bring your own cable to the arm rest port and BOOM. CarPlay. We pay the Porsche tax. We'll never get it haha.

So Porsche doesn't want Google stealing its trade secrets? But isn't Apple supposedly working on a car as well? If that's true, then it wouldn't surprise me that one day an article surfaces which states that Apple's CarPlay collects data as well. Then Apple will dismiss it as a "bug", and patch it, just like the location issue on the iPhone a few years ago.

Not quite CarPlay with that cable. I only get iPod ;)
I really wish, I could read at least those messages and emails. But now I have at least some solution: "Hey Siri on an Apple Watch..."
