Just because a couple of geeks running MacRumours think this is front page worthy doesn't mean it is.

This just in, a game came out for Mac!

It's more embarrassing to the OS then anything.

This just in.... tosser on macrumors..

So shall we all just wait for you to decide what is and isn't news then, or do we have a choice to make up our own minds?

Anybody knows if the game will refuse to launch on a MBP with an ATI x1600?

Or maybe a way to fool the steam games?

It should work, but it won't be pretty.. I have the same MBP and I'm gonna take the chance - if it doesn't work well I'll let you know :)

I know it will not work on high definition not even medium, but if in low it runs smoothly thats fine for me.

Has anyone tested the game on a Macbook Pro 13' Mid 2010?

I want to buy the game, but I don't know if it will work fine.

Just a guess but I think it will run fine even in osx. It's still using the source engine and if left 4 dead 2 is any indication than portal 2 will be similar. I played l4d2 on my 2010 13" in OSX and it ran very well. Given that IMO there is a lot more going on in that game with all the zombies and gunplay and effects compared to portal 2, it should be okay. The times when fps dips on portal 2 is when you're looking directly into a portal and it's processing what's on the other side of it. Lmk if you want a link to the l4d2 video played on my old 2010 Mbp. It's under my YouTube vids. I played at native resolution and I think medium settings all around. Portal 2 honestly doesn't seem any more demanding from my hour with it. If anything it's less demanding than left 4 dead 2 running on the same game engine.

It would probably be better if you never posted here again.

Thanks for reporting this Arn. I'd forgotten all about it and I've been looking forward to this for months. This is from a non-gamer who just happened to totally love Portal 1!

I loved the first Portal and The Orange Box, but $50 for Portal 2 seems kind of steep to me.

I feel the same way. Just wait a while. There will be sales and It'll go down in price in time. Valve is good about this, unlike say Nintendo. I'll be getting it then myself.

Just because you and I don't agree with him is no reason to be rude.

Nice to have it released on day one

I liked the first version of Portal. It was nice of Steam to have the first one for free when I first got it. I am not sure if I am going to get the new version yet since $50 does seem a bit too much for that type of game.

I am glad that it is coming out at the same time that releases for other systems as well as opposed to having to wait several months to get a Mac port.

Should be a nice source of simaltaneous amusement and frustration :D

No, you can't play it via Media Access Control.

It kind erks me that I still have to have a gaming PC to max out current titles. Gosh I wish I Apple would up their GPU game so I could use the Mac for everything. :(

True, but Portal 2 is released for both MacOSX and Windows. :|

Anyone know if it'll run well enough to play on a 2007 MBP with 128 nVidia 8600m, c2d, 4gb ram?

I desperately want to buy this game but I'm very hesitant because I don't know if it'll run well enough on my system.

Agreed. Orange Box was and is the best value in gaming. At the same time, Portal 1 (I dont mean this in a bad way at all) was not a fully realized stand alone title(though it was genius...and one of my fav games). Portal has really raised the bar in regards to content, co-op...etc. And 45$ on Steam aint bad:)

On your second note, +1
I get so tired of snobbery against dissenting opinions on this forum. Stay well friend!

What? Its by far one of the biggest games of the year in the games industry regardless of platform. PC news sites are covering it too, as would any platform specific news site when the most important games are being released.

Crazy.

Crazy.

1. He doesn't know that Portal 2 is a new game released for all the OS's/Xbox360/PS3.

2. Look at his post history; he is a foul mouth.

Ignore.

Runs smoothly at low settings on my iMac that barely meets the minimum specs, so I am very happy about that.
Played some Co Op with a PC-owning friend and had a real blast - such a fun and funny game.

And it is so exciting to see a same day release of a major game for both PC and Mac. Nice one Valve!

P.S. Comparing Portal 1 and 2 isn't really fair. Portal 2 is so much bigger and better than it's predecessor that comparing the two is like a trailer to a full movie.

Great, but €38 is too expensive, especially considering that I bought the entire Orange Box for £10, which includes HL2, EP1, EP2 and Portal...

Why is it that they charge $50 for just streaming? Would retailer get mad if they under cut the price to just get a digital copy. The profit margin got to be so much more then actually producting a box, materials, ect, and cutting a retailer on the take. So why not make the price $25-$30. I see amazon has it for $45 along but some lag time for shipping.

:) I bought it for Windows as such. No question, Window's allows the BEST gaming experience...both in hardware support, and W7:DX11 > OSX:OpenGL

My real beef is that Apple doesnt compliment its wonderfully built machines with capable GPU's. I mean, a 5750 as the best graphics option in the otherwise superb (might I add expensive) 27inch iMac? Total Fail. Im not looking for them to kick PWR consumption totally, but they could easily facilitate something as powerful as a 560ti or dare I say a 6850.

And your point is? :D

People are still gonna complain unfortunately:( Its all about priorities. I for one am a huge Valve fan period(hence my interest in the thread)...that said, Im not super enthusiastic about MR threads on "Facetime Updates"/etc. People just care about different things...I dont think thats crazy;) Stay well friend!

Portal Schmortal

I don't care about Portal. Valve needs to stop messing around and come out with Half-Life 3 or at least the 3rd episode of HL2.

Still too expensive for me... Come to iOS for $5.. and I'll buy it!

Urgh. I really hope this mentally isn't passed on. Mini iOS games versus multi £million games with years in development...
Unless you're joking. I hope you're joking! It sounds like you're joking.

Sounds like he is serious.. j/k

seriously they should stream the downloads for $30 and they still make more profit that way.
