Yes Apple will manufacture 2 different components at a higher cost, because then the iPad will have its OWN simcards and data plans and people wont be able to use their simcard from the mobile phone/iPhone. Why do telecom companies even use microsim in their modems but phones continue to use the larger simcards? No one knows...

And Apple cares why?

Micro SIM will be phased in throughout 2010 and going on.

We're not talking about squares! We're talking about squared as in the adjective, as in with right angles!!

You people...not a second between thought and post...

My reasoning why is due to the fact that if it was real, than Apple Legal would be down on Engadget, MR etc. for publishing these photos. A while back this happened when iPod photos were leaked prior to it being announced. Maybe they've got smarter, as they know if they release the Apple Legal Dogs it will be essentially confirmed, so we'll see.

Yes, they don't do it as much as they did a few years ago. Whenever Apple sent a letter, it was total confirmation. So they haven't for a long while.

????

I miss something on this picture. I thought that the next iphone generation has an flash light cam ??? so where is it????

The iPhone 3G/3GS looks also fat! - When I saw the prototyp of the 3G before the announcement, I also thought like everyone, it would look really unattractive.

Well the iPhone 3G/3G S has an attractive sleek/fat design......you have to admit that this iPhone 4G prototype is not sleek or edgy or curvy.......most of apple's product's have been like this. This is not even apple-like. But who knows?

No way. That is soooooooooooooooooooo not Steve (Apple), there is no way he would allow that design though.

The only possible chance is that the exterior is hideous on purpase, and the internals are the future 4g internals :apple:

Something no one has brought up so far is the much-rumored camera flash. Does anyone find it odd that both the twittpic and the engadget pics happen to cut off the upper back of the phone, where a flash or lack of one would be visible? Wouldn't that be something they would want to point out when documenting a 'leak' since that is one of the most talked about physical changes? I'm not going either way with this. I'm just pointing this out.

Except for the fact it uses a standard sized SIM card.

Again, clearly a fake. Apple would not produce 2 comparable components when they have the exact same functionality.

the iPad was never meant to be used as a phone, and the micro SIM could have been chosen to keep you from popping your iPhone or other smartphone SIM in it and avoid paying 2 data bills.

The regular sized SIM still makes sense in a phone because their customers would want to be able to use SIMs from old phones, or put their SIMs in another phone should the need arise. They won't want to take away that selling point (Apple may not care but ATT probably does)

The real red flag here comes from redundancy. If the back is truly removable, revealing the SIM tray, why is it also accessible from outside (and the side no less). Apple wouldn't go for that, especially since they'd have the opportunity to make the side all nice and smooth if the SIM could be accessed from within

This is clearly sooo fake that its not even funny. Someone has gotten their hands on that fake chinese iPhone/fat phone hybrid (from the twitpic with the fake symbol on the back) and then replicated the back to make it look like an iPhone with XXX where numbers should be so that people will argue more about it being a prototype than a fake ripoff. Why would apple go BACKWARDS in design, and BACKWARDS in everything they believe in. The amount of times Jobs "reportedly" rejected a tablet computer because he wasn't happy with it surely points out that this is BS.

They would not brand the back of the case if it were a prototype case to allow easy access to the "internals and battery" because then if SOMETHING like this DID happen, people wouldn't know WHAT it is.

The removable battery is never happening, I think you cannot even replace a battery in a macbook pro without opening (unless im wrong there). Why would they change their mind the 4th time around? Oh this iPhone we will let them have a replaceable battery! And screw it, lets give the iPhone more ways to screw up and allow flash! YAY!

NOT!!!

Actually, look at the bottom of the unit in the twitpics, then the new pics.
The twitpics unit has three openings on the bottom; mic, dock connector, speaker.
The new pics appear to have 5 openings; mic, screw, dock, screw, speaker.

Adding the two screwholes later would be a sign that the design is changing and is now being geared more for production and serviceability rather than testing.

Also why would the sim card have to be relocated for a front facing camera when the sim is at the top of the phone now and the camera is there also.

is it bad that i like? i mean whats unapple about it? also the fcc logo would be there cause they need to get everything ready. i believe the ipad at the jan even had the fcc logo on it and it wasnt approved.

That thing is terrible. I sincerely hope it's not authentic. But given how ugly it is, I'm sure it's not.

The worst part about it (and most obvious giveaway that it's not an Apple design) is the removable battery. I rather like my 3GS being thinner and slightly more rugged because of the permanently sealed case.

And if that is somehow genuine, I'll be right back here to say how horrible it is, Apple logo or not. Doubly so, because they have a greater responsibility. :p

The front camera is supposedly next to the speaker, whereas the rear is most likely be in the corner like it is now. The camera would be in the way of the SIM slot.

Just a ploy to make this FAKE look more like an apple product. Businesses with the history of Apple dont take steps backwards. It makes no sense!

I have my doubts too. SJ likes to keep the lines clean and simple. This is not the move in that direction compared to the current generation of iPhones.
