I will probably NOT buy if this is it. I doubt this is real. It looks like any phone currently on the market. Like HTC or something. Yuck!

I don't know if this is real or not, but when I first saw the pics the first thing that came to my mind was "wow that's thick as hell". Then I took a look at the headphone jack, and assuming (I know, I know) that it's still a 3.5mm jack and comparing it to how it looks on my 3G this thing started looking pretty thin actually. Maybe it's just an optical illusion I can't really tell. Even if it is as thin as it could be I don't think having such sharp angles would be comfortable.

Your right, I think that first picture is just a bad angle.

Still the thing looks beat up, like its old. Plus, the volume buttons and seems are very non Apple like. Other than that I really dont think this is that bad.

There is absolutely, no way Apple would ever ... EVER make something like this for release. I would even be shocked to learn that this was a prototype. Those seems are ridiculously ugly. The buttons if anything will be close to the iPad buttons.

Sometimes I wonder, are these faked photos other manufactures trying to figure out the Apple design. As in, "hmmm what would the Apple fans like ?" how can we piggyback on their design success ?

Crazy conspiracy sure but what would this site be without it :p

Ok guys this a forum where people go to argue about computers not basic geometry.

The iPhone will continue to use a standard SIM. They will not put the micro-SIM in an iPhone. The whole point of the micro-SIM in the iPad is so that users won't stick their iPhone SIMs in an iPad and use that data.

So Apple will manufacture 2 different components at a higher cost rather than standardize it......right.........

From these photos I think it looks quite nice. However, it's hard to judge it aesthetically from just these couple of blurry photos. And if this it, I can't wait to see the backflip from the people who said how ugly and disgusting it is to then after Apple announce it, how beautiful it is!

I don't think this is real, though. My reasoning why is due to the fact that if it was real, than Apple Legal would be down on Engadget, MR etc. for publishing these photos. A while back this happened when iPod photos were leaked prior to it being announced. Maybe they've got smarter, as they know if they release the Apple Legal Dogs it will be essentially confirmed, so we'll see.

funniest observation yet...

as many complaints as I see regarding the design, when this phone comes out(and IFF it looks like this), 99% of these "design gurus" will worship it's new look and how its the "best revolutionary step apple has taken" when they see Steve Jobs holding it

reading this forum is like watching saturday night live

The seam at the top is suspect. I think what it could be is a chinese iPod Touch knockoff. And the drive inside of it is a 1.8 inch platter drive, that's where 80 GB's is coming from. I haven't heard of any flash memory at 80 GB's.

80GB flash just means 12 layer packaging.

Since the launch of the last iPhone, both Samsung and Toshiba both now offer up to 16 layer flash chips.

It's very square....even though it's a rectangle...because the ends are squared.

Sheesh. I guess my T-square is just a T...T...

This is clearly sooo fake that its not even funny. Someone has gotten their hands on that fake chinese iPhone/fat phone hybrid (from the twitpic with the fake symbol on the back) and then replicated the back to make it look like an iPhone with XXX where numbers should be so that people will argue more about it being a prototype than a fake ripoff. Why would apple go BACKWARDS in design, and BACKWARDS in everything they believe in. The amount of times Jobs "reportedly" rejected a tablet computer because he wasn't happy with it surely points out that this is BS.

They would not brand the back of the case if it were a prototype case to allow easy access to the "internals and battery" because then if SOMETHING like this DID happen, people wouldn't know WHAT it is.

The removable battery is never happening, I think you cannot even replace a battery in a macbook pro without opening (unless im wrong there). Why would they change their mind the 4th time around? Oh this iPhone we will let them have a replaceable battery! And screw it, lets give the iPhone more ways to screw up and allow flash! YAY!

NOT!!!

I feel the need to say this again, because apparently nobody has tried to read the FCC ID on this device.
That is not an actual FCC ID. It says BCGAXXXXX.
Same for the IC ID, whatever that is. It's not an actual ID.
It looks like they're on there as a placeholder, to be changed when IDs are assigned.

No, that's a MicroSIM holder inside. The current SIM tray takes is easily the largest part of the logic board. These pics show a SIM tray way smaller.

Huh?

A regular sized SIM is roughly the same length as 1/2 the width of an iPhone and the SIM in the picture is roughly 1/2 the width of the phone.

The lengths are very different.....

That fanboyism and elitism in this thread is shocking  . You do know there are better phones than the iPhone? And owning one no longer makes you special. To those saying this is ugly and you won't buy it, guaranteed when this is announced you will be at an Apple store. It is a prototype. What don't you people understand even though the story is sketch.

So Apple will manufacture 2 different components at a higher cost rather than standardize it......right.........

Yes Apple will manufacture 2 different components at a higher cost, because then the iPad will have its OWN simcards and data plans and people wont be able to use their simcard from the mobile phone/iPhone. Why do telecom companies even use microsim in their modems but phones continue to use the larger simcards? No one knows...
