Question:

Was it not shown that LED camera flash/flashlight was found in the new OS? I see no sign of any light source or am I missing it? If it is real it could be old but that would mean it could have been changed by now.

If it's there, it would most likely be next to the camera lense, which wasn't in any of the pictures.

Enough speculation from me for the night. I'll never get to sleep if I keep reading this thread.

if this was real... Apple would have requested this be taken down by now....

Apple have learnt that if they were to somehow have allowed this breach in security, that going out and requesting it be taken down would prove its existance, its easier to do nothing, and allow the community to fight over whether or not its "real". Which it isn't!

I don't think it's real, but it kind of reminds me of this mockup, with the edge to edge glass, though with less rounded corners.

what makes you think its fake?

Looks the prototype part

Would have been nice if they snapped a few when it was running the OS. It's a tough break to see something for a few secs and not have a thought to take a pic. Been there done that.

Last I looked, a rectangle has 90 degree angles.

ANYWAYS - the post I was referring to had someone rambling on about how "square" the phone was. Pretty much nothing on it is "square". It's all rectangles.

The phone has a lot of 90 degree angles. Again, none of which are square. :)

Fake or not - who cares. It's interesting to look at!

Adjective vs. Noun.

Adjective: A rectangle is square.

Noun: A rectangle is not a square.

Both of these statements are true.

Decently executed fake.

Know how you can tell the fakes from the real ones?
The real ones work.

I don't believe they would be in production at this point.
Let alone would prototypes be made in China, or labeled as such.
More likely unmarked, and LOCKED DOWN in an Apple facility.

There's no way in a million years that that thing came from anything even remotely associated with Apple. The hideous seam on the top between the power button and the headphone jack is an absolute giveaway that this is NOT an Apple design. Couple that with ROUND(!) volume rocker buttons and this thing is a design train wreck. As many have said and I agree, it seems like a Chinese knockoff, though the inclusion of the apparent dock connector is curious.

what makes you think its fake?

There is too much "wrong" with these leaks that makes me think its a fake.

I will admit at the very best its a crude prototype that would allow access to the parts for testing and tweaking purposes although there are too many holes in even that scenario.

1. Why has this prototype left apple? Everyone knows just how TIGHT apple are with products that aren't available, let alone even announced yet.

2. If it is a prototype, would you not want it made exactly the same way to test it properly? Clearly not a finished product and that can cause variables that seem to suggest its against Apple's stringent testing.

3. Why label the prototype? Im pretty sure everyone working with the prototype at Apple KNOWS its going to be an iPhone prototype, so why have stuff on the back saying that its an apple prototype. It seems that would be a waste of time.

4. If its the real deal then why would Apple abandon their staunch belief in the ability to not remove the battery if your an end user? Short answer, they wouldn't! Its been proven how stubborn Jobs and Apple can be. Why change now?

5. 80GB, it doesn't turn on (suddenly and inexplicably) and it has a "decidedly new OS"... seriously... Too many holes in this story that cannot be overlooked as oh thats just Apple being Apple. It goes against everything we know about Apple, what makes this iPhone release any different?

I agree with many that this might be a prototype and that the end product would be polished and this one is just built like that for easy acces to the insides of the device.

Also if this is the real deal maybe the reason why they can't switch it on anymore is cause apple wiped it remotely, I'm sure they have the ability to fully erase not only user data but the whole OS.

I just came back from Beijing and didn't see a similar knock off but if I go there again in the next few months I'll let u know ;)

That is stunning!
Hope it is real.

Only issue is that the home button will need to be an actual BUTTON, Apple has made it very clear that button is important and essential as the only "BUTTON" on the device, per say.

Otherwise, I love that design, tweaked very well to look better without ruining the overall iPhone design.

Um...the entire bottom portion of mockup IS a physical button...

Apple store is down for updates now. Possible 4G? :D

No.

Yeah I just noticed, the issue with that is when you hold the iPhone sideways to play games etc, you'll probably press that button more than once by accident.

Wait... doesn't Apple have a patent on using the back as a mutiltouch surface? Maybe that's what's up with the glass on the back

I thought the same thing. The Engadget photos don't show the rear camera area, but the Twitpic internal photo does. I see the camera but I don't see a flash. (Which certainly doesn't prove the iPhone won't have one. Assuming the photos are real, details can still vary as you say. Or the flash could be attached to the removed rear cover.)
