remember when the first iPod was announced? it was totally joked about, hated, and then it changed the industry... and every fanboy wanted it.

here we are today, with a possible 4th Gen iPhone, and almost everyone is joking about it, hating the design, and if it gets official, every fanboy (including 90% of the haters) will want it.

it's the circle of life. ;)

PS. interesting note, Apple Store is down in many countries!! I just love that yellow sticky note!! maybe Apple couldn't handle their new iPhone being announced on the hands of Engadget, so they're throwing an info page of the iPhone HD!! :D :p

Right! Let's not forget how succesful the Twentieth Anniversary Macin...erm...I mean the Macintosh Porta....wait...the puck mouse? Well I'm sure everybody is raving about the MacBook Air, whether positive or negative, I shan't say.

The Apple store goes down every other night...it's called maintenance.

Ugly as hell... can't be legit..as others have noted very un-apple also.

I am still counting on the other pics with the aluminum back and possibly with a black stripe added for the antenna.. (like the iPad 3g)

If Mr. Ive designed that, I would be extremely surprised. Ugly as anything.

EDIT: If you are reading this in 2012, just to let you know I now think the iPhone 4 looks great. How fickle we can be :D

When we prototype stuff, we put it in a mule ... usually an ugly enclosure, as we are testing whats inside, not the build quality or look of the case (its the last thing we could care about). As long as the dimensions match up, thats all thats needed. I'm rather certain apple does the same thing.

Because rewriting history is so rewarding :)

In fact ipod didn't get popular before Apple announced fourth generation photo ipod (with mini already announced). Full three years after it was released. And it never really got that successful outside the US because in those markets mp3 players were already included in the cell phones.

They make SSDs that come in 80 GB capacities but that's SSD. It definitely sounds like a 1.8 inch HDD.

What about 64 + 16? That adds to 80, and maybe its 16GB for apps, and the OS, then 16/32/64 extra for music, photos, and (HD?) video...

Food for thought...

There is no way that this is the new iPhone. It is ugly as hell, and it looks like the Samsung smartphones. All this rumor crap is stupid, we can just wait until June 22nd for Apple to show us what the REAL iPhone 4G will look like instead of going off these stupid rumors.

Fake

It´s a pretty obvious fake! Macrumors really knows this. There are so many facts that are crying "FAKE!" within this picutures. But why macrumors make this story? Even if they are clever enough to see this is a fake?

Cause people come here. Meet here. Discuss here. Watch the Ad Banner. MR likes the attention. Thats all. People how belief this story and belief this photos are also belief in aliens, esoterics, monsters and god.

:apple:

I don't think it looks great, but it's almost great, if the metallic back-piece was curved like the plastic case of the current iPhone, it'd actually look quite slick imo. It's just as it is, it's not particularly smooth.

It may just be a prototype that simply contains all the feature of the 4G for people to test and use etc. and Apple is working on the final design seperately.

Yeah and it will only cost $899.

That's if they use SSDs which I believe they don't. I may be wrong but I thought there were different types of flash memory, not all being SSD. How much does a 64GB SSD drive cost right now? About $200. I doubt they're putting those in the iPod touches...

This phone looks like a step down in production quality from even the original iPhone. But I hope the next iPhone is built out of titanium as it does not block cellular & wifi waves like other metals.

I'd just say one thing doubting the authenticity of this 'leak'

Remember the iPad? It was already announced, they had shown it off on a stage, and they still required their select few developers to use them chained to a desk in a closed-off room. Really, I can't imagine them letting the engineers run off to the pub with an unreleased iPhone.

Being as it is a cell phone and not a computer, I am sure they would want to test reception amongst other things. I believe there were reports of the 1st Gen iPhone being used before it was announced.

Tacky

This design is incredibly cheap and plain looking. The iPhone is far overdue for a design refresh. Every generation looks practically identical and there are 30+ million of them out there. I was actually shocked that the 3GS looked like the previous two generations.

If the upcoming iPhone doesn't look substantially different, Apple's branding as a "cool" brand with gorgeous aesthetics will take a serious hit.

the 3GS looked like the 3G but not like the 1st Gen iPhone. and by "substantially different", what do you mean?

PS. I love this one.

Apple Store is up again!! New iPhone HD and MacBook Air!!!

NOT!!

Haahaa

ugly as sin. and the various comments from guys who don't think it's ugly make it clear that people buy apple products for many reasons -- and many users are clueless about design.

bottom line: has apple requested that the images be taken down?

case closed.

It's true that the first iPhone looks less similar than the 3G & 3GS but they still all look nearly identical in my opinion. I'm not a designer so I can't give specific tips on what to do to freshen the aesthetics, but changes can and should be made.

From reading this thread, it looks as though the vast majority of posters agree with me. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's purely subjective.

I just noticed something weird when I was looking closely at the shots.

Next to the headphone jack, there's a tiny hole, that resembles the mic located in the same spot on the iPad.

as far as I know, the iPhone has to have its mic in the lower part.

or maybe, it's just a reset button?

Theres nothing to really look into.

It may be a prototype but Apple certainly won't release a phone that looks like that. It's far too "square".

Best bet would be a prototype shell for testing hardware.
