The devices they are losing market share to do. (HTC is one)

I haven't seen any reports of them losing market share to HTC. What I have seen is a slow down in iPhone sales but that usually happens as word gets out that a new one should be released soon.

Don't forget:

And that was 1.5 years ago. Sure, some things have changed but hell, the EU said that phones should use Micro-USB and some phones are still sold with Mini-USB.

No worries! I can post a link to the site, if people want. I think that's against the rules though, right? It's also in Spanish :p

Too bad, I kind of liked the glass back. I'm sure Apple's design will be much better, though. :)

Please provide the link.

Yeah, I'd love to see the link. I'm pretty sure it's allowed, and it's perfectly relevant :)

The market is growing so what I said is not strictly true. Point taken.

However sales of 3GS have slowed for the reason you state.

Not sure what you mean really.

Everywhere I go is awash with HTC Desires here (UK). I'm a techie though and the more open Android phones appeal to my techie mates.

My 2 cents

1. Probably a Chinese knockoff. Go to Alibaba.com and search and you will find dozens of phones of similar size, shape and markings. None run Apple OS.

2. That said, Apple will prototype in generic case designs. Personally seen them. However, these early prototypes do NOT get lost in cafes nor leave Cupertino and are under lock and key. So unless someone stole it from a high security vault at Apple then proceeded to loose million dollar advance tech at a cafe, it is not real.

As for the design, not my style, but most products tend to grow on you with continued exposure.

Additional evidence supporting fake - Apple legal has not sued enGadget and other Mac sites into removing the pictures. At least in my opinion that is compelling evidence.

Too contrived

I somehow managed to get my hands on a top secret 4G iPhone, put it in 3G packaging then it fell out of my purse/coat while I was in a restroom and found by someone who knew it was something other than a lost iPhone so they could post pics of it. Yeah, I believe it.

that was to the other post I replied to, not yours. He's saying that the EU is forcing companies to have removable batteries. What I brought up is that the EU has tried to force a lot of things and it doesn't always take hold immediately.

I looked at a Nexus One when they came out for at&t. I thought long and hard about it. Someone I know got one and said it was a terrible device and a horrible OS to use. I trust his word and didn't get it.

I know that Android is appealing (oh, open this and blah blah blah) but when it comes down to it, is open really all that important? If the UI and the usability is awful, much like many Linux builds out there, then it's not. I think that's a major issue Android is going to need to overcome.

And how do you explain the fact that there's an headphone jack, the silent switch and both volume controls on the "removable" battery access panel?

C.

The buttons are attached to part that removes and might have an unseen contact pad that allows them to be connected when the device is closed.

As for the headphone jack, lets say pushing the battery release slides the removable plate up to the top of the phone which the jack can handle as you'll notice the metal ring separating the jack from the plate.

This is probably just an early prototype or something that will never see the light of day. It certainly looks too horrible to be anything Apple would put out.

Prototypes don't end up in the street or in a bar.

This is real and will be announced in May. Shipping in early June- hence AT&T ban on employee vacations for the entire month of June.

Buttons attached to a battery casing that then make contact when you put it all back together is horrible, horrible industrial design. I wouldn't even expect HTC or anyone else to do that. You're begging for trouble with that.

I don't think we disagree. I'm not convinced by the Androids either. The Desire has a nicer interface than the Nexus One though whilst being essentially being the same hardware (give or take some buttons/noise cancelling).

The openness (or lack there-of) doesn't bother me too much. The ability to upload your own home developed apps is very compelling for some. That's not something I personally need however.

And the HTC UI is apparently slow and really mucks up the experience.

I think there's a general agreement on the issues with Android. People want to love Android but there are many glaring problems that make people second-guess it.

When I worked at Apple, we saw a bunch of these knock offs. This appears to be the same thing. I could not even begin to think Apple would put out something so awful.
