BULL

Apple isn't in the habit of putting their brands and FCC information on TEST devices. Idiocy is alive and well on the net.

Am I the only one that thinks the quality looks too good to be a knock-off? Also aren't knockoffs not allowed to have logos of the actual product at all?

Could be wrong on that second point but I remember hearing that somewhere.

Heh heh. Of course knockoffs aren't allowed to have logos of the actual product. That's trademark infringement. But if you're going to make a fake and sell it in China or something, you're not worried about violating US trademark law.

Looks convincing to me. I think it's a prototype and what we'll see in June may be somewhat similar, but very different at the same time (more refined, pleasant looking). I'm just excited there was a front facing camera and a new OS!

I only have one question after reading this post. Why in the heck would someone leave the next generation iPhone laying around in a bar in San Jose?!? The only thing I can think of is someone left it there as a hoax.

I have read other posts stating that the design is very un-Apple and I totally agree. I'm not a big fan of this design at all.

I honestly don't think it looks bad. Certainly better than the pic in some other thread postulating the iphone looking like a smaller ipad (sorry, but whatever case they showed there looked hideous imho. The Ipad doesn't, but that case did).

But, I don't think it looks like an Apple design. It looks too much like your standard run of the mill smart phone and I'm pretty sure Apple likes their gadgets to stand out in the crowd. That would not. Plus, I think it doesn't look seamless and Apple does seem very big on the seamless/smooth thing.

It really just doesn't look "applish" to me. It looks like a standard smart phone *shrug*. Kinda reminds me of my Ipaq 4700 (not a smart phone but a PDA) to be honest (which I didn't mind the design of at all. Really liked that thing when I had it).

A front facing camera is a no brainer for the next iPhone. Does anyone really believe Apple is going to show off OS 4.0 2 weeks ago, and then release an entirely new OS for the phone 2 months later? Absurd.

I know the answer to this, because I've been to bars in San Jose. As it turns out, they serve organic chemical concoctions containing a substance called "alcohol." This substance has a tendency to affect the human nervous system and cause one to forget various items that one might have left conspicuously on the bar in a half-assed effort to pick up chicks, among other deleterious effects.

Come on!!!!! this is an insult to Apple if we thought they designed something this uninspiring. its prob a chinese fake or something

It looks to me to be designed to just test internals, software etc. And that it fits inside of some shell to disguise it. The bottons on the top and side don't seem to be very functional, and that the case it fits inside has the proper buttons that line up and make a connection.

You guys realize that all the variable info on the back is not actually on there, right? They all end in an "XXXX" format.

Also, if it's an actual early prototype, it's quite possible that the dock connector is switched up and Apple has special cables for them. If it gets free from Apple, plugging it into a regular cable (as anyone would do to keep it charged) will fry it. Boom, worthless.

I would bust it open (okay, carefully open) it and check to see if the chips are the from the same contractors that Apple use, or if they are low-power crap like the knockoffs use.

Also if this is an early prototype, the retail version will probably lose the seams and everything that makes it look irregular.

You need to clarify exactly what you mean. What matte iPhone and when? Cundolini wants his hand back.

Before the 3GS was made there was this phone backing with a matte back. It was the 3GS but a last second design change left the design the same. Here's a picture.

Right, ready for production, however if I remember right the prototype MacBook Air does NOT have MacBook Air badging...
