This design says "we tried but didn't get there and we are not sorry". It's not a resolved nor pretty design. Remove the antenna bands. Position the camera and flash in the right place- either flush left, flush center or flush right, not floating about.
Dead on arrival is iPhone 7.

I don't understand why antenna bands are different shade than aluminum finish. Granted, different materials mean they won't look exactly the same but I would think it would look better overall.
It boggles the mind with all the resources Apple has, if it won't remove the antenna bands, why not try to make them more subtle and not an eyesore.

Can't believe they spent time worrying about the antenna bands. We are only going to cover it with a case. Maybe if they could make the corners impact resistant, make the phone so it wasn't like holding a wet bar of soap we could them leave the case off and care more about how the phone looks.

Often times we look at situations like this and wonder why companies spend time and resources on things that are seemingly trivial. A few years later we realize that they were incrementally building up to something that amounts to a big change.

As we learned with the iPhone 4, antenna design is an important area of interest when you're trying to build a device in a form factor that has never been done before. It may be that these iterative changes we've seen over the past few years ("windows" on the 5 series, "bands" on the 6 series) are Apple engineers laying the foundation for whatever the next generation design requires from an antenna standpoint.

It's like they aren't even trying anymore. All about that $$$.

Let's argue for a moment that the 2017 iPhone is a massive leap forward in design and technology. Knowing that, would we be more understanding/open to the idea that it took an additional year to bring it to market, thus interrupting the tick-tock schedule and producing an "ss" model?

We've been conditioned and expectations have been set over the years, but that extra year may be worth it in the end (or maybe it won't be, in which case they'll get what they deserve from the press and sales figures).

I had a thought. What if this is simply just a iPhone 6SE that will launch next to the iPhone 7? I really can't imagine Apple releasing the same phone three times in a row. What if they are creating a whole group of SE phones at much lower prices?

You would have the iPhone SE in the lower segment, available in three sizes, and then iPhone 7 in the higher segment available in two sizes. iPhone SE at $399, $499, $599 and then iPhone 7 at 699 and 799.

Just a thought.

There's nothing smart about that smart connector. Bad idea to introduce yet another interface and in such an ugly manner of three random dots. Get your act together, Apple, please!

Underwhelmed anyone? I had a lengthy discussion with an apple retail employee yesterday about apples inability to evoke amazement. Even apple employees feels 'nah' :-/

Eventually we will only have a screen without bezel and the hardware design will be mostly backside. Still. Diverse and evoke emotion with design. Do what you are/were good at. iPhone SE? The same as 4 gen older phone?!

No wonder you're slipping.

If this is in fact what the 7 will look like, I look forward to the unveiling video. Sit there at my computer, jaw un-dropped, with my Jony Ive Bingo card out. Everytime I play it always ends up blacked out, and I haven't had to use a new card in years.

So Sony music CEO has been given an iPhone 7 by Apple? No wouldn't happen at all.

It is Apple's Chief of French content.

I have a crazy theory: based on the rumors, the next iPhone is supposed to look nearly identical to the 6S. Also, there have been rumors of a third "Pro" iPhone 7. What if this year's iPhone is NOT the iPhone 7, but just simply the iPhone Pro? Like the iPad Pro, it will come in two sizes, have the smart connector, and possibly even Pencil support.

Then next year, for the 10th anniversary, they come out with the 7.

Ok, but I don't think he would be stupid enough to take a picture with the iPhone 7, Apple have very strict restrictions on things like this, plus the photo hasn't been removed so either he just doesn't care about getting fired or it's a fake!

Let's pretend this is iPhone 7:

This looks like a step towards a much better looking iPhone 8 (or whatever the next redesign is).

Imagine an iPhone with NO antennae bands.... That would look pretty svelte.

As this iPhone 7 is, it is plagued with those awful antennae bands. I'd prefer the 6 antennae bands. They're trying to hide them, but it's still there an looking rank.

Now if this iPhone 7 had a material change at the top and bottom in the small loop between screen and antennae bands, that would look better.

iPhone 6SS

Okay storm trooper.

It does feel unreasonable to me too that he would do something like this. However, technically he did leak about Apple Music before WWDC last year despite numerous sources have indicated the service's existence. (Or, the Instagram profile is actually not him? o_O)

The iPhone 6SS .....Apple cannot be that aggrogant , that they think they can sell almost the same phone a 3rd time .

I assume the only innovation the accessories.... :(

If this is true I wonder what reason they'll give to stick with the same design. Because this is not a beloved design like the 5/5s was, so...

This is true, I wonder if he's done this on purpose or if it's an accident. But would they really give people the iPhone 7 at this point? I thought only Johnny I've and his team had acces to them, along with Tim Cook of course. Plus wouldn't this indicate the the 7 is in production already?

The only time I look at the back of my iPhone 6s is when I am bored and thinking about how lucky I am to own one. Apart from that the bands on the 6 and 6s are no big deal. Remember, its a smartphone, not necessarily a fashion statement. It is intended to be used for sending and receiving calls, browse the internet, use applications, capture photos and videos. Use it as the tool it is and you will be happy.
