If the choices are adapter or no 3.5mm headphones?
If Apple needs to make it thinner then they should go with lightning headphones. Although I'm not sure why to make it thinner. In the long they end up with the "hump" disaster. Did they really sell any of this ugly things?

My lightening port is already finicky on my 6S+ when I charge my phone it most often wont connect unless I push it in cockeyed. Would hate to see how well this would work connected to headphones and a wire that moves around all the time.

It's Apple. I think the end goal is wireless, just like they want for everything. This is, quite likely, a stop-gap.

I don't know what you do with your phone while charging. Mine sits on surface. However, any headphone cable is under frequent stress as you move about while having it plugged in, constantly creating opportunities for the cable to get caught on something and violently yanking at the cable.

The Lightning power cord always gets stressed out on my iPad. I'm on my third power able now. I'm not alone in this. Two of my friends experienced the same. So I'm wondering how the Lightning headphone cord will do...

This guy is just throwing headphones off the table like it's trash. At one point you heard a slam as the big headphone fall to the floor lol

Have you checked for dirt, dust or crud inside your lightning port? I had a similar issue, removing some dustballs was the solution.

Apple already has a Lightning to analog headphone adapter with a charging port... It is the iPhone dock
As the R&D timelines are fairly long for a phone, I'd say that Apple brought out the dock with the intent of removing the headphone jack in the near future.

It does underscore that any dongle/adapter will need to have a DAC - so no such device will appear as simple as what's been depicted in this topic.

fundamental issue...I use iPhone for phone calls roughly 6-8 hrs a day. Right now i plug it into power via lightning and headphone jack for talking. How am I suppose to use phone and charge...idiotic

Don't tell me bluetooth because bluetooth never works as well as corded headset...I've tried every bluetooth headset and there is always an issue or the quality is never as good..

Really don't get Apples obsession with 'thinner'. It's the ultimate of form over function and just plain stupid.
I don't think that a change that led to a thinner, lighter phone with a bigger battery is "form over function" for something that had to remain in a pocket a lot and use all day.

I feel like I am one of the only people that couldn't care less if Apple gets rid of the headphone jack.
Yep, the sooner they do this, the sooner we will get better wireless headphones. And, the little bit closer we will get to become wire-free altogether.

I use one of these with my current headphones to amplify sound. Will suck to have use this along with a lightning dongle. I'll keep my 6S for one more year.

You're already dongling. It's not a stretch to double-dongle. The no-dongles ever crowd would sneer at this.

No, OMG.

This will not hold up for long. Apple cables are not that great.

I would know , buying plenty of replacements.

Will wait if this one is real, plus wait for knock offs at $ 5.00, not $ 25.00

But it's short. So maybe it'll be tougher.

Yay. Now I can have a dead battery while plugging in to my car stereo rather than arrive with a fully charged battery.
You need a newer car (or at least a new car stereo). They tend to come with USB input and/or bluetooth, which would allow you to charge as you listen.

One thing is certain: Apple is unmatched for creating controversy. Recent examples like dropping skeuomorphism, switching to flat design, dropping Google Maps in lieu of Apple Maps, dumbing down software and reducing functionality, form over function, obsession with thinness at the expense of usability, single USB-C port, butterfly keyboard, dropping Mag Safe, and now eliminating 3.5 mm audio jack.

I don't know any other company this arrogant and don't care about customer feedback. One of these days it will bite them in the rear but until then, we'll keep seeing more of the same thing.
