man i wish this will never happen 6.3 is to big we should stop making the phone bigger , peopel hates the size of the regular iphone 6 becucase its to big and the want something smaller i think 5.8 is enough and apple shopuld offer an iphone with 5 inches iphone and make 5.8 the plus model

A lot of people are buying an iphone 7 plus these days and salenumbers of the big model keep rising.
People hated the size of the regular iphone 6??? Perhaps on this forum, but it has been the best selling iphone modell. Sold about 60% more than the 5s.
I for one would love an iphone 8+, same footprint as the current iphone 7plus but with a bigger display. Why do you think they are slowly terminating the ipad mini line?

What is strengthened ion-x? Some cheap offshore knock off of Corning Gorilla Glass?
No, it's literally produced by Corning and probably just the same as Gorilla Glass.
Apple just likes to pretend that they have nothing to do with other manufacturers and use their special Apple parts and not some of the shelf stuff that everybody else is using.

This looks convincing, but I'm not sure about the placement of the Apple logo. Even taking perspective into account it looks a bit off. Perhaps it is just the distortion of the cutout in the glass. If it's real it's the right size for a SE.

Jony Ive at the next presentation:
We meticulously tilted the Apple logo...

I'm really excited to finally have the glass back...uh...back again. Anodized/painted aluminum was never a good idea as it scratches far too easily. Or, in the case of the 6S and 7, it just flakes off when using a case.

Yeah, I see that it says Ion-X, but where does it say anything about the display. This part is clearly the back of the phone. The paper lists the part as 电池壳. 电池 translates to battery and 壳 translates to shell/case/hard surface according to Google. Sounds like the battery cover to me.
that's why the report says "suggests" not "confirms". the suggestion is that if the back is ionx then it's reasonable to assume the front is too.

This post is completely false. The 7000 series aluminum used on the iPhone 6S/7 is highly durable. There have been many times where my IPhone has never even scratched or dented after numerous accidental encounters. And the Apple Watch sport model uses the same 7000 series aluminum and holds up really well against dings/scratches/dents

And I like to think I have a lot user experience with the 7000 Series aluminum, as I have had the iPhone 6S/7/+/Apple Watch Sport and they all hold up very well against Damage.

And perhaps an iPhone could have a manufacturing defect, but out of the millions of iPhone sold on an annual basis, 800,000 produced everyday, then can you provide a source showing me that the iPhone 6s/7 flakes every time using it within a case? Or is this just a user anecdotal experience?

You mean, that "light up" Apple logo? lol.[/QUOTE]

Not sure what you're talking about. Its a cut-out for the steel insert, there's nothing there.

In my opinion all iPhones should be announced at the same time.
While most people now buy models with a big display some folks still prefer the smallest possible size. iPhone SE is a great phone, but I'd love to see it updated with the latest SoC and 3D touch.
If they manage to embed the touchID under the display the smallest model could have a display bigger than 4'', so a compact phone with a good size display.
I don't understand why the smallest model has to be the budget one with older technology.

no, what I meant people didn't hate the size of screen they hated the size of the phone in hand !
I wish I could use a phone with 5.5 screen size! but the problem is the phone size is too big and the screen size is 67 percent body ratio which sucks, that is why I bought the regular iPhone 6,6s,7 .
imagine an iPhone with 4.7 to 5-inch screen bezel free the phone will be smaller in hand than the regular iPhone 6 and 5.8 screens with the size of regular iPhone 6 .
but the problem in my opinion if the company started to offer bigger screen like more than 5.8 and that will make the size of the phone increasing even if it doesn't have bezel ( i dont want an iphone the size of the current iphone plus even its all screen ) they forget that people wants a smaller phone that they can use with one hand use and easy to put them in their pants and im one of those people

Well....they don't.

Gorilla Glass is the umbrella term Corning uses for a spectrum of glass products they offer. Corning works with OEMs who don't want to use "off the shelf" Gorilla Glass components to make variants tuned to specific characteristics (hardness, impact resistance, etc). Ion-X is Apple's moniker for the version they work with Corning to produce (Ion-X also being a brand name, as they refine it each generation).

That said, Apple makes it very clear in all disclosures that Corning is a partner of theirs.

My biggest problem with the rumored 5.8 inch iphone 8/x, is , that with the new rumored aspect ratio of about 19:9 instead of 16:9, and the rumored function area, that you have a lot less real usuable screenspace for content in contrary to the 6s/7 plus. The screen will be long, but because of the function area, have less space for real content, and the iphone/8/x will have a screenwidth of 6,45mm , 4mm less than the iphone 7 plus. So if apple is to maintain the 19:9 screenratio and keep the same width as the iphone 7 plus, screensize will have to be about 6.3 inches.
And me, personaly don' t dislike the size of the 7 plus, but the big chin and forehead bothers me, a lot of space is lost over there, which could have been screenarea.

I hope they don't change the design of the SE. Last of the good phone designs.

I doubt they are changing the design of the SE. That phone will likely remain as-is, and on-sale with slight spec bumps for a few more years. This phone is the eventual SE replacement. It most likely won't be called the SE. If this isn't just a bezel-less 4.7" 7s, then it will be the 4" 7s variant that will go on sale at the same time as the 4.7" & 5.5" -- for they might launch it next March when they drop the price of the SE too.

Was I the only one kind of confused that if this is indeed confirmation of an Ion-X Glass screen, the article didn't touch on the fact that it also means that either the second generation SE or 7s will include a design change in the form of a glass back? I would love that, especially if the back plate is Ion-X as well. The iPhone 4 only had Gorilla Glass for the display not the back panel. I hope that wouldn't carry over with whatever iPhone model this may be.

I love the all glass design of the iPhone 4 and the size of the iPhone SE. I would just like them to get as close to the specs on the new premium model as possible. I want the power of the flagship in the smaller form factor. I know this is not a new argument by any means, but I wish they would move away from the, bigger means better' mentality. I have the 7 (and big hands), but every time I hold an SE it feels so comfortable and practical - the quality of the cameras, 3D Touch, and Touch ID on the 7 just outweighs all of that for me.

I in no way mean to offend or derail this thread, but if anyone checks the lightning port on demo phones in the Apple Store, they're always riddled with scratches a couple of days after launch. Surprisingly I've found in that highly unscientific scratch test that the Jet Black iPhone holds up a lot better to flaking than the others.

I know people don't treat the demo phones like they would their own, but it could be pretty indicative of how well the phone would fare after 6 months of use without a case or protector.

I'm not saying Apple are evil for not having indestructible phones - the old iPods (mirrored stainless steel and anodized aluminium) scratched and chipped like crazy and no one ever cared.

If it doesn't say Corning it's not Corning.

Ion exchange (ion-x) glass isn't exclusive to Corning but not all ion exchange glass is the same quality.

"Select device manufacturers have not been willing to provide Gorilla Glass model verification."

Apple doesn't want other brands associated with their name but it's pretty obvious they're using Corning.

Other smartphone manufacturers proudly list Qualcomm Snapdragon, Cirrus Logic DAC, Sony Exmor, etc. Apple doesn't list components to emphasize the product is uniquely Apple.

Today apple granted Corning 200 million from their fund, so you are right.

I hope if Appple does make a successor to SE that they don't make it purposely inferior to bigger screens phones and they just release it all at the same time .

I don't want to hear excuses to why smaller phones can't have 3D Touch , faster Touch ID, years old cameras and processors .

I love my + size phone and whenever I upgrade beyond my 6S+ I won't go back to smaller size model but I really don't see why Apple makes smaller size phones be the black sheep of the iPhone lineup .

3 sizes , same specs , same camera , same features , same storage capacity and screen size is only difference . It makes it simpler for consumers to have it all standardized

The SE was the testing device. It's sold well! I have the Space Gray 32GB SE. Bought it two weeks ago. If they update it I will instantly buy it. For Apple I think it was easier to recycle the parts from the 5S,in case the phone ended up flopping. Less of a blow from a money standpoint.

Why would it? Do you truly believe Apple will reverse moving forward with the Airpods being their future in wireless technology? That's asinine to even think they would bring it back. And it would show insecurity in their decison to remove it in the first place if they were to bring it back.

The demand for the SE and 6S are still going strong. Not sure if it's because of the price point, but I work in Cellular. I hear time and time again how the reason they are choosing the older model is because of the jack. I have a 7 Plus as well as an SE, but the jack comes in handy, especially since I use a mophie.

...iPhone SE is a great phone, but I'd love to see it updated with the latest SoC and 3D touch.

oh, lord no. 3D touch is the most intrusive, infuriating "feature" that Apple has foisted upon us in quite a while (and they've pushed out a lot of garbage UI changes). Please no 3D Touch.

I don't understand why the smallest model has to be the budget one with older technology.

Agree with you there. I'd love for the smallest to be the flagship with the best tech. Make it $1200 - I'm in!
