WHY?!?! Just buy an iPhone 4 and no one has to deal with bad quality materials! SOOOO DUMB

Clearly your 'SOOO DUMB' comment is misplaced, as anyone who knows Apple knows that the iPhone 4 (and 4) will not be supported for much longer.

iOS7 is already limited on the iPhone 4, with several features removed.

The 4s will likely not get the iOS8 update in a year as it'll be the last device running on the old resolution.

So no. An iPhone 4 wouldn't be a better idea at all. A newer model, cheaper to make than the 4 and with better specs would be a considerably better option.

What would the naming be then?

Low cost iphone = iphone
Iphone 5s = the new iphone / iphone pro :D

Cause obviously apple would drop the numbering when this one comes out, just like the ipad.

It will just all be iPhone, I think. Like the iPod Touch Line. This low-cost iPhone will just be a lower storage capacity probably.

If in doubt - and you need to distract your user base away from the fact you've not had any decent innovative ideas for the past two years ....colourise! :D

Sorted!

What innovation do you mean? You cannot reinvent the smartphone every three or five years.
And if something like the iPhone makes most customers totally satisfied from day one, there is even less need to innovate.
Next big thing will maybe be an IWatch with flex display in some years.
Smartphones are already capable of almost anything, there will only be evolution.
Having colors where everyone else goes black and white only is a nice thing.

great, its an iphone 5 with cheaper build quality... now where is my bigger screen?

I apologise if I make any mistakes in this comment, but my retinas have been burned away by the colour of those iPhones.

Thank Jobs there's a white one... but what about black?

haha, just like that you took off $50 retail price from msrp of $649. apple never going to lower their price.

the found a sweet spot of $649 ($199 contract) - they will keep it until the iPhone sales slow down.

$299 - dream on - at least it will be $399 ($450 - iPhone 4 - it will be even huge they take off $50).

It used to be $599 and iPhone sales HAVE slowed, so I am making the assumption of this. Also, the point of a LOW cost phone is to sell it for lower than what they already sell the iPhone 4 for at the moment (which is $450). :apple:

Interesting. I too long for the feel of the 3G/S. No iPhone felt better than those ones in your hand. Unfortunately, I have a feeling the lower-cost iPhone (if real) would be missing some features of the regular iPhone that would break the deal for me.

I think it's a good idea. Some people want a cheaper phone, but they want it to be new, not last years model. Also, if they make a significant change to the iphone, like a bigger screen, the cheaper one can change at the same time, which would mean less of a problem for developers.

And I personally think a phone should be more on the inexpensive side and be made of plastic etc., since it's so likely to be dropped, lost, stolen, etc.. it should be kind of disposable but have a high quality interface, camera and os. That's what I liked most about my old LG texting phone -- I didn't worry about it too much.

It's at Samsung, go buy it.
I don't want a bigger screen at all.
At least apple should keep offering the actual screen size and if they really need to, then they shall create a big screen tablet erm phone for the nerds who don't care about their look

I really don't get the concept of having all those different colors. It creates an inventory nightmare. If you want different colors just get an inexpensive case and you can have any color you want and change it at any time.

inventory nightmare? Have you ever bought anything?

Apple sells phones around the world. The FCC is only relevant in the US. That information probably goes on at a different stage of manufacturing and would not go on at all for test units.

Does the back of an iPhone sold outside the US look any different than one sold in he US? Seriously, I don't know. If it does, you may have a point. If it does not, you do not.

And every prototype or test unit have ever seen has the FCC info on it.

I really dont know what the big deal is? The first iPhone was plastic!

Exactly. I mean go back to v1 and v2...plastic...not sure why people are freaking out. Don't get it if you don't want it. Get it if you want it.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if somebody has just photoshopped the colours of these phones as a joke.

Perhaps it's just a dig at everyone who took the P out the iOS7 icon colours.

I was going to submit them to the jonyiveredesignsthings blog, then saw someone already had. :D

First iPhone was aluminum....

Anyway, I see this being sold in developing markets only. While not impossible, I would find it surprising if it releases in major markets.

Tech is a hobby of mine, and I think for many of us, so we would run out and buy the cheap iPhone.

But whatever you think of the low-cost iPhone, you know a $450 or so dollar will sell like crazy.

Had plastic sides didn't it? Anyway the first iphones felt cheap compared to what they are now.

i think most of these look ugly and cheap.

best idea of a plastic iPhone for consumers wouldve been this concept based on the original bondi blue imac, in varied colors;

Wow, I really like that mock up. The translucent idea is great - and would be cool if offered in each color of the rainbow Apple logo too.

----------

That. Looks. Awesome. :D

Can you mockup a few like that in the other iMac colors? My personal favorites were Tangerine, Ruby, Lime, Sage, Graphite, and Snow.

much more apple like.

and some people are confused to think that them looking cheap is acceptable because its a 'cheap' iphone.

we all know that its not going to be cheap. its not going to be a cheap iPhone, its just going to cost less. proof of this is Apple's iPad Mini. and this is actually good news. we dont want Apple to become sony. spreading itself too thin by selling products on a wide range of price and quality.

Apple should stay true - stick to selling premium products and experiences. the philosophy of a product in their ranges should be the category of the product and the use its designed for or market.

it should NEVER be designed for a 'cheaper price' or building a product around price.

examples that shine most in apples current products are macs and ipods. and recently, iPads.

iPad mini's philosophy is greater portability - an everything anywhere device beyond the small size experience of pocket based devices like phones or iPods.

Macs. we know the story of macs, pro and consumer. portability/power/ultra portable.

iPods: Storage / collection; classics. iOS: Touch's. Shuffle: Gym/Exercise/Work . etc..

apple Should bring the philosophy of different categories to iPhones, but it should not be about price. only product. some people might not be concerned with the latest and greatest technologies in an iPhone, they might simply just want the apple OS experience (iOS).

1 area of category is phone/screen size, like macs. some people want bigger and smaller phones.

It's called business. All Apple are guilty of are trying to expand their market share by making Apple available to people who cannot afford the current iPhone (with or without a contract). Your post is backward - old Apple thinking. IF you don't like them - stick to the premium iPhone, which will still be available. The days of Apple snobbery are over.

Same here. I'm still using a 3GS. I'm definitely upgrading this cycle. Unfortunately I've outgrown 32GB so 64GB is mandatory for me. I don't think there is much chance that the new plastic iPhone will be available with 64GB RAM.

Well lot of iPhones that I see around look like that anyway. As lot of people have cases that look just like this.

So I guess you don't have to buy a case if you buy this phone. ;)
