I think its very arrogant by using the name "Lower-end" to describe the non-premium iphone that is going to be introduced in the near future. Its like the customers who purchase the non Lower-end iphone is privileged or rich or something like that. It doesnt roll with me and think its very childish. Thanks.

you have issues.

Might be real...

Apple has recently started using a LOT of internal (inside the parts) QR codes for service parts and inventory control. I wonder if some brave Apple employee would be willing to try to scan the QR code in the photo and see what pops up!?

Looks pretty legit to me.

Why do you care what it looks like? It's only going to be available in "emerging markets" so you wont be able to get it even if you did want it.

I'm pretty sure Apple has never once made a specific device that is ONLY available somewhere outside the US. I'm fairly certain that if this is a real device, it would be available everywhere, including these "emerging markets". Apple makes a modified iPhone for China, but not a unique iPhone that looks or feels different.

I still can't decide how I feel about this low cost phone. Part of me wants to like the colors, although I'd never buy a green one myself even though that's my favorite color. But the other part of me is thinking...is this not already an option with the older phone models. As in now, for example, the low cost iPhone for consumers is the iPhone 4 & 4S, are they not? The options already exist for those reasons. I'm not sure that I see a point behind this low cost iPhone at all.

One can always get them thru eBay if the aforementioned product is not available in his/her country. Unfortunately, he/she has got to be willing to let those eBay sellers squeeze every single penny out of his/her pockets. :D

...the 4 and 4S do not "exist for those reasons" lol... they simply still exist because they are OLD MODELS. They aren't an "option" that Apple came out with to fill a gap... they are just old models.

These new phones will exist to fill a gap. That is the point of them.

huge mistake, this will only do damage to apple's brand

How so? More people will be able to purchase Apple products... that's the goal. How would expanding your customer base be a bad thing?

Unless, of course, you think they are opening the door to endless options and therefore spreading themselves too thin. I hardly think offering a slightly less expensive option to the world is opening said door. That's just my opinion.

Not sure about those colours tbh.

The kids will love them. Mommy and daddy will be required to purchase them, I'm sure.

Sheesh, people... open your eyes. They're doing this for the KIDS under the guise of poor nations.

The real goal is for everyone on Earth to have an iPhone eventually. Then it will be easy to keep track of everyone. ;)

Jony Ive must have gone colour blind in his old age

Their old iPod colour choices used to be attractive but they have gone very strange recently.

As a parent that's used Apple products since 1983 and had an iPhone since 2007, I've raised our kids with a love of all things Apple. They keep getting our hand-me-down iPhones once we upgrade (which is fine). But the price tag of current iPhones simply keeps buying our children new phones a non-option. To me... these cheaper, plastic, and very colorful rumored iPhones seem like the solution to our situation.

I don't think you quite understood my post. The thing is there is no gap.

When the new low cost phone comes out we'll have that one, plus the "old model" 5, plus a possible iPhone 5S. This seems to be confusion in the making for new customers.

Appleboys "Samsung are stupid for having a cheaper range".....nek minnit.

depends on how company defines 'cheap'.
Samsung definition of cheap is:
>Stuck on same version of Android for life.
>Low quality camera
>Low quality/smaller screen
>Cheap processor/Not compatible with some apps ex. Temple Run (lol)
>Build... meh

Apple don't do this. If it is now know as the cheap range it is just the price.

If this feels as high quality in the hand as, say, a 3GS there's no problem. I hope Apple get an iPhone out as cheaply as possible. I think soon they'll phase out the iPod Touch and merely have iPhones you may or may not use on a phone network.

For me it will come down to spec, I don't want a new iPhone 5c (c for color) only to have it based on the 5 or 4s which I can get now.

According to the WSJ Apple has lost 44% of their stock value since sep last year. This phone could represent a potential move into the Chinese market where low cost devices are much more in demand.

The implication of this action could however mean that Apple is about to turn into any other of the short term stock price chasing companies like HP, Dell etc. A company that don´t care about great products. Only stock prices.

What do you think?

I anticipate this being an iPod Touch + phone parts. So look to the current touches for a ballpark insight into specs.

Australia too - these things will sell like hot cakes. Outright prepaid $499-$699 depending on storage size, or, $10-$25 a month subsidised on 24 month contract.. People will love them. I hope there's a Bondi Blue in there somewhere.. Would be tempted to upgrade the 4S outright and then get back on a plan when the 6 is released..

Chinesee market? Europeans like me, will go nutz about this phone. Apple wont have the production capacity to infront the demand. I use prepaid cards because I hate mobile operators as many people.

For 9 euros (13$) I can get 1GB of data per month, and If I have 1GB I dont need free minutes or msges, because there is Whatsapp, Line, Skype and many other voip services for free.

So for 2 years, that will be 9 x 24 which is equal to 216 euros and 299 euros (379$) for a cheaper iPhone thats make almost 550 euros (700$). So for 700$ I get an iPhone and 2 years of usage without geting into contractual obligation with any mobile operator.

The same plan (with some mintues and free msgs) with 2 years contract will cost me 199$ for the iPhone and 40$ per month for 24 months. In two years this iPhone and the usage will cost me almost 1200$. As you can see thats 40% more expensive and dosent fit my needs.

The conclusion is that many people prefer to pay the real price of the phone and choce a cheaper plan or prepaid and pay only their montly usage and not the phone itself, because in many countries its cheaper that way and those countries are not necesary China.

Americans like to buy things on loan, even their cell phones. I prefer paying the full price and it has nothing to do with my income or Apple.
