You forgot Plan Six: demonstrate to the world that you're probably still in your teens by tirelessly trolling Apple forums to remind readers that you hate the iPhone.

Plan seven (applicable if you are actually no longer a teen ager): realize that everyone already knows I hate the iPhone so I can stop relentlessly posting it and get a life.

:D You sir, carry the mighty troll hammer of the gods!

What about this: iPod touch + 3G => low-cost iPhone.

I think that's a nuclear option Apple can deploy relatively easy, if needed.

I'm ready to upgrade my 4S, especially now that I'm finally clear from AT&T's recent increased restrictions. However, I'd be very tempted by a smaller form factor phone, with a few less extra features. Some sort of nano iPhone could fill a spot and leave both the iPhone and iPod touch in place.

Their competition is blindly ignoring general convenience by going bigger, there's a whole market waiting for them, where they can maintaining a premium quality and price. The iPod mini was never much cheaper than the iPod, for example.

Be prepared though, sometimes there's a Step 8:

"I don't hate the iPhone. I just wish Apple would..." and then repeats why he hates the iPhone.

I am guessing fake considering it is missing the fcc and regulatory place holder.

Exactly. I'd say they're knock-off phones. An awful lot more text needs to be printed on those rear shells for them to be genuine.

I was unsure if you were writing that sarcastically or whether you really are that uninformed (to put it mildly). Those normally come with a 24 month contract - hence over the life of the contract that's 21 GBP/mo*24mo = 504 GBP.

Hardly 'free'.

FWIW though the backs in the original post look really low quality.

No I'm not that "uninformed". You are however woefully condescending.

Even a SIM free phone requires a data plan. You either get the phone free over a contact and get data bundled or you pay up front for the phone and subscribe a pay as you go call & data plan, either way the costs aren't much different over the course of 24 months. Sure, you can buy the phone SIM free and not bother with a PAYG call/data plan but then why bother with an iPhone at all if that's your plan?

iPhone 5, 24 months, free phone, £31 pm on "3" = £744.

Let's say a low cost iPhone is £249 at best. On O2 you take their £15pm PAYG plan, that's still £609. For that extra £135 I'd rather have the contract (which will have better mins, text, data than the PAYG plan) and a "proper" iPhone rather than the cheaper plastic one.

If the colours matched those of the iPod Touch, I'd want one! Which is why it annoys me that Apple are only doing this for a "low cost" version. Do "premium" users not deserve more colour choice?

They could have a Zune brown-colored iPhone for all I care, I just won't buy it. I have no problem in others being offered more choices.

Very true, they'll undoubtedly come in black and white too, so this leaves the funky colours for hipsters to colour match with their special edition lomo camera. I jest, the extra colours are fun, just not for everyone. But I do think Nokia did it best with their two tone lumia 620.

It always blows my mind when I see people complain about ruining their phone after sitting on it.

Why is that, I've always kept iphone in back pocket. I never sit on my phones. It happened either from bending over or bumping into something. Until the 5 I never had an issue. Btw, I loved the 5, but decided to sell it for $600 and go back to my old one. Biggest reason was the soft aluminum, but also wanted 30pin connector for my Pioneer AppRadio 2 in my car. I'm sure I'll buy the 5s or 6 this fall. Or this "plastic" iPhone if they come out with it.

Really hoping something happens with that new metal that Apple got rights to use. Can't remember name, but looked pretty cool.

I like the metal a little better just for design.

iphone is pretty but what i'd really like to see is innovation in industrial design that is durable. i dont want to have to shield my phone because a ding will drop its value $100-200 when i want to upgrade

We can all hope for that, but carbon fiber won't cut it as both protective and elegant. I'm pretty satisfied with the Apple bumper case on an iPhone 4 or 5, especially because the phone slides around without it.

But then it wouldn't be a phone.

Yawn! I'm 45 and writing this on an iPad, I own 2 iMacs and I've owned every generation of iPhone to-date (before moving to Samsung and realising life doesn't begin and end with Apple like so many people think) I just hate isheep (as we call them) and people who don't like/appreciate other peoples opinion like your good self. Why don't you get a life instead of trolling MY comments that I'm entitled to leave; just because you don't like them, doesn't mean I'm wrong; just shows you to be one of the people Im talking about. So, how about YOU get a life ... you're boring me now! (although I'm sure you'll spend another 5 minutes of your boring life replying to someone that really doesn't give a damn) :)

For every one else, when Apple bring out a decent phone I'll look to buy one again; until then, I'll happily point out their flaws (just as apple owners like to do to Android owners) and laugh at immature people ... You know, the 'my phones better than your phone' crowd ... How immature!

Just what i've always wanted, a bright neon green iPhone

Poor people in developing countries saved months of income to buy this for status symbol and show off. Apple is smart to make these phone glaringly eye-catchy because these users want to be seen/known to have the latest iPhone.

Why are some Apple US fans offended by this phone?

I don't know why some Apple US fans are offended by the possible existence of a lower-cost iPhone, as there is no reason for Apple to offer such a phone for sale in the US, unless it is to replace the older models with the older connector. It's quite easy to ignore if one wishes to.
