My Very First Mac

Hello folks,

I just bought my very first Mac.
I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

I got the 2.5 GHZ with the 7200 rpm hard drive upgrade. Didn't think the 2.6 Ghz was worth the extra money.

I bought Apple Care. Was that a smart move? Is it worth the money?:D

Here's what I got:

2.6 GHz Penryn 15.4" MBP

Ships by: Feb 28 - Mar 3
Delivers by: Mar 3 - Mar 6

Status is: Not yet shipped (which sucks big time cause I'm really impatient)

On a side note I got my case today and MS Office 08 tomorrow.

It seems as if a lot of orders are by switchers. That's great!

I ordered the base model MBP on Tuesday. Apple order status shows delivery between Feb 29 - Mar 6. My order still shows "prepared for shipment" so I'm not-so-patiently waiting for next week.

After selling my PowerBook and Mac mini, and with my ADC discount, the upgrade cost me under $500! I can't wait to get my shiny new MBP.

I picked up the base model during lunch today and am currently recovering from having dropped nearly $2000. Having the higher education discount helps though. Looking forward to getting home and starting it up tonight.

Yes, I too purchased with the ADC discount. What a steal! It pretty much is only worth it for the MBP though. Very little discount on MB. I ordered mine with Aperture pre-installed because it saved me $20 (159 vs 179) but it seems to be holding up the order, and now I wished I hadn't. So impatient.

So last night after getting home from work, UPS package with my WD 320GB HD and 2x 2GB sticks of ram waiting for me. Cracked open the MBP and swapped out the hard drive and then popped in the 4GB of ram. Its up and running, have OS X installed and currently installing Vista onto it.

I have to say, trying to get the front portion of the lid off is not easy. Those little plastic pieces on the front just don't want to release easily. I think I spent a good 30-40 min wiggling the lid trying to get it to release. And just when I was thinking of possibly giving up for the night it started popping off one by one.

ordered a 15"/2.5./2gb/250gb penryn four hours ago. think I've checked three times so far to see if they've updated the shipping date. the next week is going to be loooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggg. :) It'll be my 3rd mac but 1st brand new one.

Purchased base model MBP w/ AC on Tuesday around 5PM, standard shipping & educator discount.

It arrived on Thursday morning at 9:30 AM:D

From Shanghai to Chicago in 40 hours w/ standard shipping :D:D

Finally decided to sell my Rev A MBP -- asked my husband to pick me up the 2.5GHz Penryn at a local Apple store with my EDU account.

He showed up with the "ultimate" (2.6 GHz + 7200 RPM drive) instead. :D

I'm not complaining and the new machine is great -- I'm still amazed at how much cooler it is!!

It Arrived Today!

My new and first Macbook Pro arrived today. It is a glorious machine!!! I can't believe how well it runs and how perfect it is. I did all the screen tests, inserted my ram, and ran it through the loops and its running perfectly. I couldnt be any happier!! The only thing im worried about now is messing it up. Its so perfect i dont want to put that first scratch or mark on it lol.

Now i just got to get over being a noob again. I have pretty much been a mostly windows and some linux guy until now. I feel like im starting over. It is a pleasure learning the ins and outs and discovering the finer points of OSX though. Here's to becoming a Mac Expert now :)

I ordered my low-end mbp penryn 2.4ghz 2gb ram etcetc 5 mins after release, got it yesterday. It's a very nice machine, works great, it's a screamer. Doesnt make alot of noise and it's beautiful! But I bet you all knew that? :)

Need to agree on what JCT wrote. I had the 2.2ghz gen3 MBP like 3 months ago, and The new Penryn is ALOT cooler and. It's no heat at all compared to the 2.2ghz

I ordered mine this week:

2.6GHz, 15-inch Glossy WS, 2GB RAM (4GB ordered elsewhere), 200GB 7200 rpm HDD, Apple Care (£50, yay), 23" ACD, Apple remote and a Brenthaven Fusion MB III Messenger Bag (I didn't ask for this, the guy on the phone just gave it to me).

Hopefully it'll be a good piece of kit.

Received my base 2.4 MBP system on Tuesday. Spend last night doing a clean install and then loading Fusion for XP Pro. This machine rocks!!

I finally got mine yesterday. 2,4.

Been a Windows user since 1995.

Got an external new keyboard too.

I got tired of waiting.

And I think I was wrong, because the MBP keyboard is good, but not as good as the MB one.

Otherwise, it's all true : it just works. I prefer Office 2007 for Windows though, Office 2007 looks like it's another version of 2004.

One major weakness for me : you can't just resize a window to the size of your screen, like on PC. You have to drag it. So it's kind of a drag. Oherwise it's cool. It's cool to change.

It will arrive at my sister's house in MI sometime between the 13th to the 18th of March. I'll then collect it when I arrive back in the US on the 22nd. Looking forward to it...

I ordered my mbp 2.4ghz penryn on Tuesday - it arrived on Thursday :). I'm very pleased with it so far except for the fact that Appleworks doesn't come standard. I was a bee's knee away from selling my ibook g4 when the logic board died. :(

Gone from a 1.67GHz PowerBook to the 2.5GHz 15" MBP with 4GB RAM (upgraded myself!) and it's just superb.

I love it and it's worth every single penny.

I've just got to sell my old PB now... (reluctantly logs on to eBay)
