I was about to get a cosmetic blemish refurb, but because I couldn't find any info about what "cosmetically blemished" actually entailed, I just went with the normal refurb. It isn't worth the possibility of having a beat up phone to save 20 bucks imo.

omg... someone that actually comprehended my simple OP (i thought i made it pretty clear.) thanks for showing me that someone on the board isn't hearing what they wanna hear.
I work for AT&T in a management position and the phones they order for us are from this refurbished stock. I can tell you that the descriptions they provide are worst case scenario. You aren't going to get a phone that looks like someone slid it across the parking lot.
when you mean refurbished stock you're talking about the cosmetically blemished phones right? i'm hearing that lots of people are getting phones that are good as new... and others that have dings and dents. seems like a dice roll.

yeah. i would spend the 20bucks more get a strictly refurbed one, but they didn't have any on the att site. comonnnnn lady luck! i need you right now!
The phones we choose from are refurbs and are broken down by condition. More cosmetically blemished is cheaper. I usually get stuff in the middle grade and it looks new to me. I'd imagine the low grade has minor scratches and stuff, maybe a ding.

edit: oh, nm. 2 or 3 small... TINY scratches on the back. i'll take pictures when i come home from work.
edit 2: just check the warranty with apple. turns out this phone also has applecare. WIN!

it's at least 90days. comes with whatever warranty is left on the phone when it was first bought.
Nothing is stopping them but you generally have to have a problem to get a swap.
And THAT would be the reason I would pay a tad more for new. Buying "used" things sans warranty unnerves me, unless I'm getting a SUBSTANTIAL deal on it.
yeah, it's a dice roll for sure. but i got a hellva deal. whoever bought the phone first bought applecare for it. the phone is covered till oct. 2012. winner winner chicken dinner!
I think the only company that refurbishes iPhones is Apple. So what whould be the difference in buying them from the Apple store vs ATT?
Apple refurbish the iphone then use it as replacement phone, they don't sell those refurbished. AT&T just get the used iphone, polish it cosmetically (or not, as in OP's case) and sell it. Thats the different.
