I'm on 3.0 and I don't have that

That's very strange. I know that it was included in 3.0 because I always wondered what exactly the "To" was referring to. It seems clumsily out if place. I wonder if it is something you can alter in settings? And I have gmail attached to my mail.

I apologize, I just checked the settings and it is something you turn on/off :)

Can you do me a favor and check the toggle buttons at the bottom of Maps? Do they still look like this?

If you're unsure.. can you post a screenshot at least?

Here you go:

Eh, Photoshop horks gifs for some reason. The dithering in that is nasty. Here's a screenshot:

What I love is that the 3.0 software is better-centered but you're complaining about it. ~.~

It's not better centered. It was perfectly centered in 2.2.1, and in 3.0 and 3.0.1 it is 1 pixel to the right.

Every iPhone update to date has re-installed the entire OS... not just the fixes.

Incorrect. With the updates to 1.x, Apple did release some IPSW's that only contained the bug fixes in addition to the entire restore IPSW.

1.0.1 update weighed in at 7.1MB - iPhone1,1_1.0.1_1A543a_to_1C25_Update.ipsw
1.0.2 update weighed in at 3.7MB - iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C25_to_1C28_Update.ipsw or iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1A543a_to_1C28_Update.ipsw

I believe these were the only 2 updates released, all other "updates" of the iPhone OS have contained the entire OS.

I'm using a 3G S. Are you saying that in 3.0 on the 3G S, the right edge wasn't blurred?

That's exactly what I'm saying. Sorry the iPhone 3GS has always been correct but every 2G/3G beta and official 3.x firmware has the blurry edge. I think it's kind of unfair to make them different. Anyway, I submitted the bug to Apple MONTHS ago and hopefully they'll get around to fixing it someday.

I updated today and my 3G feels faster, like before 3.0 so all the people reporting that, I think we are right.

I don't believe it does anything than fix the hack issue.

Well according to one of the Dev-team members via twitter (MuscleNerd) said 3.0.1 doesn't even begin to fix the the sms hacks.

Apple must have given us this update, to give us the placebo effect.

You guys actually care about this?

Believe it or not, but I don't care that they moved it over by one pixel as much as I wish they'd just change it to look like the buttons on the iPhone 3GS. They should also change the startup screen for maps since it still has the 2.2.1 interface. It's called UI consistency and it does matter.

It doesn't matter for non-crazy people, seriously.

ETA: It actually is there in 3.0, you have to turn it on in settings. Sorry!

Sorry guys - i see where it is in the settings, cant work out how it got turned on - strangely seems to have switched on when i did the upgrade - its not an area of the settings i venture into very often.

Thanks

Stephen

Found a new feature/bug fix. I found it in 3.1 beta 3, but please let me know if it's also in 3.0 or 3.0.1.

While you're walking, you can now change the orientation of the iPhone to landscape and it will flip even while you're walking. Before (in 2.2.1), the rotation would stay locked if the iPhone was moving (walking) and I'd have to stop walking to get the screen to rotate back.

I don't know if this is a 3.1 feature or if it has been there in 3.0/3.0.1

Can anyone confirm?

Can do this in 3.0. Maybe even 2.2.1, but I can't confirm, since it's been awhile. I just always remember being able to change the orientation to look at the Metro schedule while leaving work.

If you were walking while trying to get iPod to go to coverflow, it wouldn't work unless you slowed down enough to get the iPhone to respond. This is from 2.2.1. I can guarantee that it didn't work in 2.2.1.

If it's a new 3.0 feature... sweet! It wasn't there when I was using the 3.0 betas so I guess I figured they'd never fix it.

I remember actually telling a co-worker that I had to actually stop walking in order to get Messages to rotate... hehe.

I was specifically talking about Safari. I can't say for sure about the iPod app, since I wasn't using it back then (at least when walking, since I generally use iHeartRadio).
