6100/66 cant run OS X
This doesn’t sound like you at all @LightBulbFun
Install MkLinux > compile QEMU ppc (KVM?) > launch with a Tiger image > wait a few days for it to boot and you have OS X on a 601 nubus PowerPC

PowerBook G3 PDQ "Limited Edition" with 512 KB L2 cache and 12.1" active matrix display. This was brutally slow.
I dont speak german but is that 32MB of RAM?!
very nice find iv read about this model of PDQ but never seen one.
not used one personally my self but there was the Mainstreet 12.1 inch passive matrix LCD and a 233Mhz G3 with No L2 cache apparently its very slow but much more common then the 12 inch PDQ. iv always wanted to see one/get one to see what OS X is like on a passive matrix LCD tho![]()
Wowzers. Here I thought I was cool with my factory iBook g3 clamshell. Don't upgrade that machine! Be sure to keep all of it's original working, and keep original CDs and manuals!Yes, that was a test to see if Jaguar would boot with just 32 MB of RAM. I've upgraded to 192 MB now.(Sadly I don't have any 256 MB modules with 16 chips).
I was initially only aware of the Mainstreet with its passive matrix LCD and lack of L2 cache and was therefore skeptical about this one, but the presence of cache got me thinking. And the display is definitely an active matrix.
As far as performance is concerned, boot time (with 192 MB RAM) is about 105 seconds from the grey Apple logo to the desktop, using the original 2 GB IBM hard drive. I didn't measure boot time with 32 MB RAM, but I'd estimate it was at least five minutes...

32MB of RAM! I can't express how much I love that.![]()

It occurred to me I have 10.1.5 installed in Mac-on-Mac so I set out to determine the bare minimum in terms of RAM; turns out my PDQ was quite close to it:

(Sorry again for the German screenshot) 30 MB... 29 or less and it fails to boot.
Sadly I don't have any 256 MB modules with 16 chips.
I know of a 9600 in Sweden, but shipping as you say is what kills it for me, if you do get a G4 for the 9650 I have a Leopard image that should boot on it let me know if you want to try that out![]()
also I see the G3 Beige DT has a 300Mhz CPU being the 1MB L2 variant im guessing this is its stock CPU? can you grab a picture of the die? im really curious if the G3 beiges faster then 266, used the MPC750A or the XPC750P CPU...
Looking at the Freescale datasheets, the MPC750A topped out at 266MHz, whilst the XPC750P started from 300MHz. Looks like it could only be the latter unless Apple was into overclocking
so im curious if Apple had a custom spec/speed MPC750A spun or used an XPC750P. (I also have the same question for the 292/300Mhz WS/PDQs if they use XPC750Ps then it should be very easy to slap a G4 7400 onto/into one)
