So before the paycheck came in , I found 4 x 2 GB of used RAM to add to my new PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3 Ghz so currently running with 12 GB RAM.

Wow first impressions, TFF which is usually a bit slower than LWK or feels less snappy, is FAAAASST now.
This machine already was a speed bump processor wise and has a SSD in it .
I went from 5,5 GB RAM to 12 GB RAM and it feels like a 2017 machine now (before more like a 2016 machine :) )

Well, technically speaking it is YOUR 2017 machine ;)

Just for kicks, download Esperance DV from @eyoungren's Ram disk thread, then create a 2GB RAM Disk, copy TFF onto it and launch... it snaps from click to a fully loaded TFF search box in 2 seconds flat.

Edit: 4 seconds. Optimistic memory, my mistake :)

One more. MacOS 7.1 running within Apple's MAE 1.0 for Solaris Sparc running on Solaris 8 on an Ultra 5. Bending the PPC theme somewhat but the Sparc is a RISC based chip. First time I have seen this in colour. All my Apple gear capable of running 7.1 or older have B/W displays.

Aah SPARC processors, never got jumpstart to work on my Sun Fire T1000 so it's stuck with OpenBSD which was installed by the seller and updated by me to 6.0 , if I ever have *more* spare-time might get around to try and install Solaris again.

Although Oracle has closed off all the updates to just those with a service contract you can still download Sol10 & Sol11 for free. I have my Ultra 5 dual booting 8 and 10. My boxed version of Sol10 dates from 2005 and the final version I downloaded from Oracle dates from 2013. That is 8 years of updates, pretty impressive except you pay through the nose for both hardware and software.

There isn't much in the way of easily obtainable applications that run on Solaris, though.

Latest hardware addition finally arrived. A PB G4 15". Only took the best part of two months to arrive. Not sure what to do with it but it was saved from recycling.
