Legit use story here. Went to Airport the other day, had forgotten my wallet in the other car. Current car I'm driving is really low on gas, 30 miles after the light went up, and I'm not familiar with how much further it can go.

Asked Siri to get me to the nearest Chevron, paid with phone, and impressed the clerk(sarcasm) with it since he asked if that's the new 6. And boom, back on my way to continue driving without wallet.

Went to Subway today and they had the slowest register ever. There was only one person on the job, he was fixing everyone their subs as well as being the cashier. He ringed up everyone before making their sub so that way, when they are done, the register would have completed the transaction!

Well, anyway, it's my turn and there are couple other people waiting behind me. When the sign shows up on the Verifone thing, I hold my phone and place my finger and it says done. But he says it didn't go through. He saw me using the phone and he thought I was trying to use the Subway app to pay for my food and he complicated the stuff and suddenly I see a QR code appearing on the Verifone. The guy behind me goes "Is that :apple: Pay?". I just smile and I say to the cashier, I will use my card.

While I'm eating I see that everyone has gone so I decide to pick up a bag of chips. This time, I tell him "Just press the buttons as if I'm trying to pay by credit card and I will be fine". He is surprised and says "How do you know?". I just smile and sure enough everything worked flawlessly and he is all "WOW! WOW!:eek::eek:". I then go on to explain what is :apple: Pay and he looked at me as if I was some alien. Today was a good day! :D:cool:

TL;DR: The cashier got confused. Educated the cashier. Successfully used :apple: Pay. Cashier went

That's why I make it a point to say "Credit" or "I'd like to pay with credit" upfront. The less said, the better, but saying nothing at all usually leads to the terminal not being properly activated for Apple Pay or the cashier making the wrong assumption, as in your case.

Yeah, I knew I shouldn't say :apple: Pay because that will confuse the heck out of them. I have to make a habit of saying "credit". I didn't expect him to change his strategy after seeing me using my phone.

Sometimes it really sucks living in Europe.

It sucks because you can't use Apple Pay, oh no :p

Today, in Europe, I paid with my debit card by entering my 4 digit pin a few times and I was done. Got the tram home. Had a lovely bolognese dinner, a can of Coke (made with sugar cane sugar), Watched Doctor Who as it aired.

I successfully was able to use it once in three weeks. An inauspicious start to a new payment method. I was finally able to buy a bagel and orange juice at Panera Bread (local bakery chain that accepts apple pay). I tried numerous times these past few weeks, but each time the iPhone didn't like my thumb print. I finally redid that on the iPhone and now apple pay seems to work.

One trick that I used to make my thumbprint more accurate is to use two locations on the setting for the same thumbprint. I varied my print on the sensor in multiple ways. It made the sensor read my print more accurately.

I did my second online purchase through Houzz (so easy) and bought an over priced bottle of water from a vending machine so I could demonstrate Apple Pay to my sister-in-law. I've been very happy so far with the process.

Took my son to Mc Donald's and apple pay worked fine.

Picked up wife and other son and the boy wanted a happy meal So I headed back to the same Mc Donald's use Apple pay my phone beeps then says transaction complete but the cashier says it didn't go through. I opened up passbook and showed her it said last transaction now and the town name. So she gets a manager and she says she promoed the meal. I still need to check my bank on that one.

I head over to Bjs club ant try it at the gas pump, no go. We go inside and grab our groceries head to self checkout. I put the phone up it beeps and then the screen asked debit or credit. I picked debit, it asks for my pin, then the screen said customer service or something. I ask somebody and she said I had to finish on the other screen not the atm terminal. So it ends up working although I wish I selected credit instead.

I get to the van and compare the receipts and where the credit card last 4 normally are the one from Mc Donald's and Bjs had the same number. I thought that was strange, I thought they would be different although they didn't match my card.

I expected all the transactions to work like the first stop at Mc Donald's.

You're not alone. A member here who used Apple Pay at a self-checkout (at Home Depot I think) got stopped by an employee patrolling the self-checkouts, who asked to see his physical card as she didn't think he actually paid. He refused and was let go. It'll take some time for retailers to get used to Apple Pay.

That's the Device Account Number. The DAN doesn't change.

I went to mcdonalds yesterday and forgot to setup apple pay on my new phone but I sat across from a couple that had an iPhone 6+ each and I overheard the following:

Guy: I love it when the McRib is back, it's like my most favorite thing ever
Girl: okay...
Guy: and I love apple pay...
Girl: yeah...
Guy: everything tastes better with apple pay

Me:

glad to see apple pay working for most people.

I myself am waiting for v. 2 to be released before I give it a try.

I have too little money as it is to be a guinea pig. lol

learn how it works before you pass judgement#

I wonder how much mcdonalds and walmart sales have increased bc they have apple pay. I've been on a healthy veggie and low carb diet but this tempts me to get a happy meal

Yesterday, I paid with apple pay in the self checkout at Home Depot, then at the normal line at Jewel (a chain of grocery stores here). The Verifone terminal at Jewel had no markings that it accepted NFC, but it worked fine, even if I did still have to sign.

Today I waited for some guy in front of me to add his card to apply pay so he could use it...I haven't had Apple pay not work but if it took longer than it would to swipe a card twice im not going to troubleshot it I'll just pull out my debit card

Yes, they may still require a signature depending on the sale amount. The signature serves as your agreement to pay the card issuer, rather than to confirm your identity as many people mistakenly believe.

Today I waited for some guy in front of me to add his card to apply pay so he could use it...

The level of inconsideration that some people show never ceases to amaze me.

It's the same thing as the old lady who waits for the cashier to say the total before finding the wallet in her purse, then looking for coins to pay exact change, and then looking for coupons too. Then saying "oh I also forgot something" and holding up the line more.

Adding a card to Apple Pay in line seems like it's much better than this

Post your day with Apple Pay!

The fact that he had his credit card out taking a picture of it next to the card terminal makes it kind of ridiculous..just swipe the card and use Apple pay next time you didn't die before it.

It's like me going to a gas station and buying something that's 1.99 and I take out two dollars and set it on the counter as I scrounge around for 99 cents.

That's more of a gender problem. Many men tend to have the credit cards out and ready to pay whereas many women usually wait until the last second and sometimes act shocked when informed the total.

This is sad as you usually can see your total ringing up, and all the items being scanned on either the credit card terminal or a giant monitor placed above the cashier.

Officially used mine physically at a store yesterday at Whole Foods. For some reason the passport app didn't recognize I was trying to make a transaction and popup on the screen automatically, maybe I didn't hold it close enough. I did physically go into Passport and successfully used ApplePay, but I did have to hold it pretty darn close for it to work, almost touching.

Does the Whole Foods have a Verifone Mx915? If it's the 915, I've noticed I've had to hold it a lot closer. Probably a Verifone thing.
