Well i was just at my local apple store for iphone issue. No mac hints obvi

Im at bestbuy now and there are 31 imacs/ thunderbolt display on the floor for sale still. This means 1 or a mix of 3 things?

1- everyone is broke
2- people are smart and waiting
3- no refresh until a month or two

Imo, its a mix. bestbuy you can barely customize online let alone bare floor model. Plus shipping times are only delayed for imac BTO on apple
Also other vendors are running thin of stock or delay ship.

So i cant discount a soon or june refresh because my local BB has inventory

I'm ordering one today just so that they'll announce the refresh next week. It never fails waiting in a line, I always choose the slowest one and if I switch lines, the old line I was in starts to move faster. Y'all can thank me next week when the refresh is announced.

Haha. I wish that was true. On one hand i want it now cause waiting drags. Yet on the other hand im waiting for new add on release and sim updates that may take till wwwdc +- time frame , so i can save more $ and not be bummed with a new imac but with same stuff i left with weeks ago.

MacMall still has a lot of various imac setups not in stock and apple still shows 2-4 days

With the lack or real mac news , i rule out retina. With shipping delays for custom imacs sill going on and stock in places is low , i see a silent May refresh. Same design, maybe a tad thinner , still have the chin, no retina, has ivy and amd 7970m , changes in bto $$, .

I see macbook pros or air being only macs ready for retina & that notebooks come in June wwdc.
Looks like ios6 preview, icloud beta and mtn lion at wwdc. No iphone no imac there.

A little update that might be interesting. Probably THE largest Premium Reseller in Sweden (we don't have Apple stores here, so this one is pretty much considered the un-official substitute) called Macoteket are now completelty out of stock of all iMac configurations apart from 2 models, there's 1 copy of one model and around 10 of the other one. Seems strange that a company that is known as "the non-official apple store of Sweden" are running out of stock I must say...

Ofcourse this reseller and the entire country in comparison to other places is very miniscule, but that doesn't mean there isn't a reason.

I know there's been alot of discussion the last couple of days that a May refresh probably isn't coming. But statistically speaking the facts for a May refresh still outweighs the probability of the theories that one will not.

Still hoping for a May refresh! :)

From the info spread around this forum... It seems like a lot of 3rd party resellers are getting shippingdelays up to 2 weeks and more, when current stock i sold out. Everytime they recieved new stock its been few models and small numbers. I think Apple is moving around stock trying to get most of it sold before a release in 2-3 weeks. We should start to see signs already next week at the major resellers... If everyone is not holding off (there will always be people who doesnt know about the upcoming update).

Plz give us the iMac soon...

Thinking along those lines too. And we have to remember that third-party-resellers gaining or even losing stock might be because they re-distribute their own stock between physical stores or sister-companies or simply sell their stock to other third-party-resellers.

And mostly in this thread we've looked at BIG resellers, sure - good call, well known, most people buy there, etc, etc... But, it's the small resellers that can't afford/risk to buy alot of new shipments when a new model is coming, big resellers can take that penalty in place of having satisfied customers getting things "that should be in stock". So one could argue that looking at the small resellers is a better indication (granted that these small resellers usually keep a stock of machines and not order from Apple when someone orders from them).

UK apple store online is 1-3 days on upgrades, like it has all year (apart from around bank holidays)

US Apple online still shows a delay only for imac, BTO 16GB ram and any change of storage drive. 2-4 for simply piking 2TB hdd. Used to be 1-3 2 weeks ago

I noted mbp times are fine. You can max a 15" out with his res 16ram 512ssd and get 1-3 days. So i think notebooks come after imac

Update:

inWarehouse.se/Komplett.se which is a big reseller in Sweden were out of stock of one model, and a new shipment was due for May 11th, this has now changed to May 18th, and only x2 are coming in then. Not sure if they keep this low amount of stock usually, but only 2 machines in one shipment does sound a little puny.

This has now changed to just x1 machine coming in the 18th. Seems odd to order in just one...

German reseller Cyberport: only one (!) Mac Pro model and a few iMacs left in stock. Estimated ship date: 24th May (since 8 days).

Has anyone else noticed that iMacs and Mac Pros were showing about 2 weeks lead time for pick up in stores but now they just say 'Not Eligible' ?

How much weight should we give rumors that Mountain Lion will be given the green light within a few weeks?

From alot of the posters on this forum, the viability of ML and the 2012 Imac sharing a release announcement has been discredited purely on the fact that this wasn't the case with Lion last year. Admittedly, this argument was put forward a month ago when I think alot of the skepticism was a result of wishful thinking for an early Imac release date, but at this stage, when all the speculated components are available for mass distribution, we now know that the machine is being delayed for something other than hardware availability.

Is it so illogical that Apple would want to couple the release of the mac range with their new OS? We know it is being delayed for SOMETHING, and we can't completely discard this notion based on one lone precedent last year.

I'm personally hoping that all our waiting will be rewarded with a redesign. This is another suggestion that has popularly been met with skepticism on this forum for reasons of lack of evidence (which could only be substantiated by leaks from third party suppliers of mac components), but I still don't see why this should cast so much doubt, especially as we continue to wait longer and longer for the update.

Shipping dates have been slipping to be sure but, like many here, I don't think this has been because Apple has been restricting their supply. Businesses aren't stupid; they, like us, feel the refresh looming and don't want to be left with vast numbers of dated products when the new line comes out.

I think we are still at least a few weeks away from the release, but I'm beginning to feel more and more sure that the wait will be worth it.

i just configured a 27" iMac and chose in store pick up ( NO I DID NOT BUY) to see what it would say. I get a full two weeks almost, May 25th for store pickup

hmm thats odd, i think a silent refresh with some cosmetic and of course internal changes are coming before wwdc. that date of 18th is in the ballpark area of the next two weeks/ so is the apple store pickup for a custom iMac i got may 25th.

the education store still shows 1-3 days for bto shipping but store pick up is far away just like the normal store

i say if nothing before memorial weekend, then assume wwdc or later june
btw, shipping delays for custom orders are not appearing for macbook pros, just iMac. also inventory of iMac at many places is quite low, while mbp is so so/ with sales going on.

Canada still 1-2 shipping days... come on Apple I'm a first-time Mac buyer and have been waiting for months instead of buying the 2011... HURRY UP!

Currys in the UK a huge electrical/computer store has only got base 21.5 instock, infact you can't even see a picture or description of the other 3 models.

I just looked, and they have them all in. Including in stock at all stores I checked :-(

I'm starting to disregard stock of base models and 2011 models in general. fact is its mid may 2012, over a year since iMac update, the next gen components are in, PC vendors will ship soon, back to school promo begins in june, wwdc is anyones guess but likely iOS, Mtn Lion and notebooks and the June quarter is cited for Mac growth. Thus all of those factors out weigh third party stock changes up & down frequently in ruling out a near iMac release. it needs to come out.

* don't bring up the mac pro, these are two different machines in many ways- affordability, design, popularity and form.

* imacs have in the passed popped up on the apple online store updated one morning without much if any prior leaks. they are not as popular as notebooks, let alone all the damn iPad iPhone rumors.

I am not losing hope/ educated factual guesses due to foreign third party stock

Some real (and by that I mean meaningful rather than confirming the authenticity of said geekbench test results) news at long last!

https://www.macrumors.com/2012/05/14/unreleased-2012-macbook-pro-and-imac-models-showing-up-in-benchmarks/

Read into this what you will ... Apple are offering 6% cashback and free shipping on all iMacs via Quidco until the end of this week.

With the new benchmark rumor and special prices at several retailers, together with stockshortages around at smaller retailers. It seems like we might only be a few weeks away from an update.

There are no changes in apple or amazon shipping dates.

The benchmark rumor showed the imac running a modifed february Moutain Lion build - that does necessary connect til launch of imac to ML. Apple is proberly testing til iMac on Lion and ML and with no apparent ivy support, they need special builds, in this case on ML. There might be a Lion build ready to release with the new macs.

Fingers crossed for a near release.
