Gotta say, the desktop looks so good regardless of what wallpaper I have on, when i'm in Launchpad. Here's my 2nd page:

LaunchPad? What, that clunky thing? Mine looks like this:

I think I would use LaunchPad more if it was sortable (alphabetically maybe), because then stuff wouldn't be so hard to find. I have spent a while organizing everything into a set of folders, with two of the most used apps from each folder sitting in the two rows above the one row of folders. This is the same way I organize apps on my iPod touch and cell phone, but still feels so much faster and easier to just hit Command+Space and type three letters of an app name.

All sorted  really should get cracking with installing my work apps!

So far I'm enjoying Launchpad. Interested to see where this goes.

Here's my setup, only a few hours old so it's not final.
Basically, the first page is for stuff I'll use often, with stuff that go together grouped in folders (like Adobe CS5 and iWork).

The second page contains stuff that will be useful but I'll only use them from time to time (you can see I'm not a developer). It also has stuff I won't ever use in folders at the end, such as uninstallers and the Apps for Mission Control and Dashboard (there's no point in clicking on them from Launchpad when I can use gestures).

Things like Portal and Half-Life can be launched from Steam, so I see no point in clicking these icons. The same applies to things like Stuffit Expander, which you never explicitly open, they rather open files automatically.

I still prefer the dock/quicksilver, but it is pretty to look at. I think it'll be a lot more useful once we can hide stuff we don't want (uninstallers etc) & get a better way of organizing it...dragging these icons back and forth across a wide screen using a mouse is pretty ridiculous.
Anyway, like a few of you, I too have a folders of 'crap' that I tuck away on page 2.

I love the launch pad but how do you keep it open, when I close a program it defaults to the normal desktop and I have to re-launch.

Apple dropped the ball by not providing an option to remove apps from the Launchpad only.. I simply can't be arsed to spend 2 hours organizing everything in folders..

Adobe CS5, for example, comes with an additional folder filled with individual uninstallers that all show up in Launchpad (not to mention render engines and whatnot). Same goes for a game like WoW, where every patch shows up twice (download and installer). Then there's the abundance of extra apps that come with an app I actually use that need to be thrown somewhere as well.

I was excited about cleaning up my dock's folders and using Launchpad itself, but this is just severely disappointing (considering it's one of the core features of Lion).

Hello

A pointless addition in my book, I have all my programs in the dock bar, why do I want them all over the screen on a blurred background ?

For one thing, it organizes my dock. As i only keep things i use regularly on it. Instead of having a small icon and long dock.

Also, it's just another method of finding your apps, like the Application folder. If you don't want to use it, it's fine.

When i'm in a rush i use spotlight.

Is there a way to rename the folders?

Click on thr name of the folder and type.

Here's mine

I put all the unwanted apps and folders on the second screen; the first screen is enough for me right now.
Also, I found that you don't have to click and on on an app to make it wiggle; you can just press Option key. By the way, you can delete apps purchased from the Mac App Store via Launchpad.

*I love auto correction in OS X Lion*
