Remove the stack and then put it back.
Remove the contents inside the stack.
Click to open it.
Then put all the contents back in.

If you haven't already tried the above it may be worth it?

Your issue may have only come up in correlation with the VMWare Installation and not because of it. Are you sure this stack used to preview (quickly) in the past? Am I correct in assuming that you are only missing previews for this specific stack? Have you tried waiting a few minutes to see whether they are built at some point? Are these files correctly previewed in Finder windows ?

You may want to try finding out whether the problem actually lies with the specific files. It's possible that Snow Leopard hangs in the process of trying to create previews for some of these files. This could be due to the fact that SL/Qt hands off the job of creating some video previews to a plugin (like Perian) which in turn doesn't answer correctly, fast enough or at all. I would thus experiment with selectively creating a stack of just a few of these files to see which of these SL is able to build previews for within stacks.

Also try experimenting with uninstalling unnecessary 3rd-party Quicktime plugins as well as updating the rest (Perian etc.).

I remember having such issues myself. SL would take a really long time building previews for some (obscure) video files within stacks while the Finder handled the same task much faster.

I am still having two issues with 10.6.2:

1. Airport does not automatically reconnect after waking from sleep
2. Multi-Touch trackpad will randomly stop working

Does anyone have any ideas?

Xerox Color Cube 9102 Issue with SNOW

I just had 3 Xerox Color Cube 9102 installed in an office running an Xserve and 50 clients all on Snow Leopard. The sales rep. assued me no issues with compatibility. WRONG!! When trying to print a Slide Deck From Power Point
(Office 2008 for Mac) IT TOTALLY HANGS THE MACHINE AND GIVES AN ERROR "RETRIEVING NETWORK RESOURCES"
When Xerox got involved they BLAME APPLE saying they were in such a Rush to beat Winblows 7, that they did not give vendors time to work on their drivers.
Can anybody confirm this? And is there some sort of generic driver I can use in the meantime? 90% of our printing is from Power Point. (Figures it's a MS product to cause this) . Sorry if I sound agitated but i commited to 3 machines that don't work.
I'm serious if there are any programmers out there that want to be paid for a solution, please contact me.

Just in case you haven't, try googling your printer + snow leopard, also did you do a clean install or an upgrade from Leopard?
What is a slide deck exactly? I've got no idea.

Just a thought, perhaps you could buy :)() iWork 09 (or use if you already have iWork 08/09) and try to open it with it's equiv. program and print it from there? that still might not work though.

I did not scan through all the pages of this thread, maybe this has all ready been posted. If you have a MacBookPro, like mine (signature), it would be worth talking to Apple about Snow Leopard before you install. I installed a couple of days ago and now on boot am getting stuck on the grey screen. I'm going to end up swinging by my local Apple Store to see if I have a faulty invidia chip. See this link for reference: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/812624/. :(

Power Point Explination

When referring to "Slide Decks" I mean a whole Power Point Presentation. It seems that certain graphics such as bar graphs and charts throw the printer into chaos. Still the quality of the Xerox is by far better than any toner based machine. Still would like to talk to a programmer about tweaking.

I have a bug for you all:

Dragging an FLV file from Coda to my drive (Desktop, User folder, etc) my screen goes black and all I can see is the mouse. This issue disappears when I create a new user account. The issue remains when I clear all preferences and settings for Coda in my Library.

works great on my machine ..... the problem is not the incompatibility of SL with 8600..the problem is 8600 itself...(mine was replaced last week )

I have regretted installing Snow Leopard as I don't see ANY performance gains, however, my computer randomly but regularly freezes COMPLETELY, no mouse, no force quit, no nothing, absolutely unresponsive, and if I'm playing music or on Skype, the last half second of the audio that was playing right before it froze just keeps looping forever. I have to hold the power button down to reboot. I have also had many Kernel Panics and Photoshop crashes quite often. Other programs also crash randomly.

These issues only happen when I'm using the dedicated graphics car on my MacBook Pro (Energy Saver>Better Performance), otherwise everything is fine. However, I didn't pay this much for a computer to not use the super expensive graphics card inside. So I'm going to keep using it.

I'm not going to go through the hassle of reinstalling Leopard or Snow Leopard, I guess I'll just live with this, I just wish I hadn't installed Snow Leopard in the first place.

10.6.2 didn't change any of this behaviour so I've given up on waiting for updates, I just need to get used to saving my work every 10 seconds, it's a good habit anyway!

If you must

;) Would just add that now, again, Apple's screen saver will not come on automatically, and if done manually remains for about 3 seconds before stopping.

Given that all else seems okay at the moment, the screen saver minor. Certainly compared to issues other's have mentioned on this thread. Although I would note that ever since SL certain things seems slower (more of the spinning beach ball for one). While that may be particular to this Macbook, other's have noted such things as the 'Save As' function in such programs as TextEdit taking seemingly forever sometimes.

In short, if knowing what I do now, I would still be waiting for a proper version of Snow Leopard to install. Once installed, it is problematic reverting to the former OS, Apple discourages this, and I now know why. Thus, my advice, have some reason why you NEED to install SL, and be prepared to accept what may happen in consequence.

Update on my MBP: Swung by the Apple Store today and they reapplied a Snow Leopard update, but that did not help, my MBP kept hanging on startup. They seemed convinced it was a hard drive problem, although my computer boots into Vista just fine. I realize that different partitions one might be ok and the other have a problem. For the sake of possible data recovery, we agreed that I should try to reinstall Snow Leopard from the original install disk and see what happens before the hard drive was replaced.

Came home, reinstalled 10.6, and it booted ok! :) Then I made a Time Machine backup of the drive. Then I installed the combined MacOS update and the 10.6.1 update, no problems so far. But the original time I installed SL it was a couple of days afterwards the problem occurred. So I'll give it about a week, and then I'll make another Time Machine update. Apple did acknowledge there are some chipset issues with SL, but they were adamant that if they were there, I should have problems in Vista too. I'm not sure how that works as they are to completely different OSs. Anyway so far so good! I'm also looking at backing up Vista with some kind of disk image program. Any suggestions?

Ok, you know that issue where people claim their battery life has dramatically shot down? Or that their machine runs a lot hotter? Well, I think I figured out at least what is happening, although I have no idea why

For whatever reason, the power management system gets stuck in "full power" mode, so things stop underclocking like they should. When it happens, you can see in iStat Menus "Sensors" list that all the power and voltage meters are stuck higher than they should be at idle. I've found a restart always clears it, but it will eventually come back. Maybe within hours, maybe it will stay away for a week or more. SMC resets do not solve it, although they will clear it temporarily because....you rebooted. Deleting the power management file (/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist) does not fix it either. 32 bit vs 64 bit kernel makes no difference, although switching will also look like it fixes it, because, again, a restart will clear it. Changing the graphics card performance settings does nothing. My latest attempted fix is the 10.6.2 combo updater. I doubt it will work, but since this is intermittent, it could be a week or two before I know for sure.

i haven't tried it myself but...try this out...

I would like to be able to watch a 20 minute show on hulu and not have to mess with my wifi 2 or 3 times. This is annoying. After months of the same problem, you would think they would have a fix all ready. I beginning to to see irony in all the mac/pc commercials where apple is great and pc can't do anything right.

I should be getting a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo MacBook (probably 2006-2007) soon and I am planning on getting the Mac Box Set that has iLife '09, iWork '09, and Snow Leopard. Obviously I would wait for any 2010 updates before buying. But should I hold off on installing Snow Leopard? Should I wait until it is further updated to 10.6.3, 10.6.4, or even later?

Random total system freezes that require a hard reset

Random power offs where all of a sudden the system reboots on its own without any warning

Random kernel panics (these haven't happened since 10.6.2 though)

All of these only happen when I set the graphics to "Better performance" instead of "Better Battery Life". If I use the dedicated graphics (Better Performance) these problems happen about once every day or 2 days.

I hate it and I wish I hadn't installed Snow Leopard. I'm not going to put Leopard back now because of the hassle. I just wish the updates would actually do something about this. I never modified my system and I never installed any weird applications that would tweak anything, I don't think a reinstall would help, my MacBook Pro is just over a year old.

Mouse problems....move, pause, move....probably due to the logitech driver, but not sure since even when I removed it, the problem still exists...does it so much, my mac is almost not usable :( No one seems to know anything about it.
