Even though 90% of this thread is... discussing... about the thinness/protruding camera lens, what about that supposed smart connector? Does this open up lots of possibilities for the iPhone? The only thing I can think of at the moment is a battery case that doesn't need to extend down and plug into the Lightning port.

Wow! Looks great. I am ready to trade in my Galaxy S7 Edge, give up 2 extra gigs of ram, waterproof, micro SD expansion, superfast low light and focus, my 3.5mm headphone jack, 3600 maH battery, Quad HD screen and wireless charging. Can't wait!!

i thought those might have just been some sort of print-on on the back to indicate where some labelling might go.

if it's for smart connectors, putting it on the back would be an interesting place. it would benefit cases and charging docks that you would lay your phone down on, but other than that, i'd be hard pressed to think of (but there are smarter people than me) other uses for back plane mounted smart connector

Could the smart connector be for wireless charging? As seen on Nokia Lumia devices a while back

The hand-wringing in these comments is hilarious. This is just like before the 6 came out and we all freaked out about the protruding camera, saying Apple would NEVER do something like that - and, of course, they did, and already had with the iPod Touch. My biggest problem with the 6/6s design is the antenna lines, and this does away with them, at least the most noticeable of them, the line that crosses from edge to edge. And if the last photo is true, that the new iPhone is made of carbon fiber... sign me up. I am SO sick of these fragile aluminum phones. I hate having my iPhone in a case but the 6 Plus has proven fragile enough that I don't feel like constantly worrying about it getting scuffed or dented. Bring on something more durable, please! And just think, black iPhone lovers, carbon fiber would allow Apple to either paint it truly black or leave it natural to show off the black fibers.

I don't get the comments criticizing the looks. Of what, the dual camera? Wou want dual cameras or not? Lets find out what the camera can do but if they protrude, would you want a heavier phone or a little hump the case will hide anyway

This is garbage! Yo apple wtf? I don't mind paying $500+ for a really great phone, who's design can withstand time but this, this is pure garbage. I may have to switch back to Samsung, or just get a track phone. #suckit

Try that with those who want more battery inside the phone.
Try that with those who want quality headphones to just plug into a universal, ubiquitous jack instead of some kind of dongle hanging out of the Lightning port.
Etc.

I wish what you said was true, rather than just selectively (and subjectively) true.

Well, it looks like Apple is not changing the cases this year because it looks like the major re-design is set for next year, with the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone. But you do have a point, and certainly applies to the previous 6 series, but I'll give Apple slack on the 7 because they are merely working within the confines of the existing case.

Assuming this is real.....

My only complaint is that the metal will continue to be slippery forcing me to use a case.

Otherwise I have no problems here. I want a thinner and lighter 7 Plus. A second speaker means a louder speaker which would be huge for me.

I don't think Apple will ditch the home button until iPhone 8. I'd love to see reduced bezels this year but I doubt it will happen.

That's not really "wireless charging" even in the loosest sense of what we consider wireless charging now, having to place your phone on a dock in a specific way to get it to work? Now if they were actually the external connectors to wireless at a distance charging...then Apple would be onto something. Otherwise, the smart connector just doesn't make any sense to me on a phone.

I don't think I want dual cameras the competitions phone has a single lens and appears to take great photos.

If you've spent any time on these forums you know most people here would take a slightly "heavier" phone for no camera hump and a larger battery to fill out the case.

Yeah, I think it might just be some labelling.

BUT... if it is a smart connector... maybe this is where those "wireless charging" rumors came from? I could totally see a "Smart dock" that doesn't require you to plug your iPhone in.

Yep I was thinking that.. or it could be wireless charging.. or since there's no headphone jack.. this would be a way to connect headphones to the device to charge them if say they were also wireless.

You didn't think you wanted an iPhone before 2007 either. The competition had phones with lots of nifty keys, slider mechanisms and a stylus to tap the tiny little icons on the pixelated little screen.

As a photographer, I'm very excited about what dual lenses and sensors can bring to the camera in my pocket. I can imagine crystal clear low light images as one benefit but what is the most exciting is the possibility of full control of a photo in post. Shoot now, capturing all the light and details of the scene, then adjust focus, aperture, exposure and even angle in the photo app after the fact.

Not to mention the pausable video. Built in GIF maker and multi image video modes. Infra red tv control. And pulse oximeter. All built in. And then there's Marshmallow just come out this week too. All included. Andyou've only just scratched the surface of new features but yeah ... Stuff that. I'm with you here. Who wants genuinely useful new features and design when familiarity and retro looks at futuristic prices is the way to go?

Pass me the eBay forms please, Timothy. And pass me my credit card wallet too .... I'm Marty McFly, everybody. I'm going back to the future and where I'm going ... I don't need logic ..... just reassuringly expensive stuff

Yep, this could definitely be Apple's method of "wireless" charging. The headphones are an interesting concept.

Okay, here's my prediction: Apple deliberately leaked something that looks plausible to throw everyone off and the actual 7 will look almost nothing like this. Unlikely, perhaps, but hey. It's what I'd do.
