please stop labeling these things as 'potential design' ... or anything that would make it sound official.

These are renders by random people that do not work for Apple and have no inside information ... label them as those and be happy, but this is just confusing people and they complain about things that were never going to happen

This is work by some artist, like it or not, but don't associate this with Apple
Oh, sweet summer child:

iPhone 5 leaks:

iPhone 6 leaks:

If you were going to place the Touch ID on the back, why not integrate it into the Apple Logo?

I really hope this rendering is incorrect, but I thought the same thing when the CAD renderings of iPhone 6 showed up around this time of year and those were spot on.

Yep, the 6 is definitely and easily one of the ugliest phones I’ve seen.

Did you read the article? Photo from an Apple partner of a potential candidate so yes, it's a "potential design"

Last one of these I saw was for the iPhone 5 and it was spot on to the final product so has a good chance of being the final product.

It's not a "render by random people"

If iPhones start to look like this, I'm switching to Android. I hate Android, but I hate this design more. Someone better shoot the designer, and Tim Crook while they are at it.

Now that newApple, under new management, seems to have embraced market research(due to lack of direction and vision), I wonder if this is how they conduct it.

Leak some info, see if it gets a positive response, and then release it as a product. I don't remember it(leaks) happening nearly as much under the previous(better) management.

This looks like something Tim Cook would approve. The iPhone 5 was the last iPhone design Steve was personally involved in. Even today it is the gold standard in smartphone design.

It's kind of funny the nostalgia people feel for iPhone designs. They are often quite divisive initially, especially during the leak process (Apple would never do that! ugly!!), but then after it's released people love it.

Was it? I thought he was involved with the 6?

Well considering how he passed a couple days after the iPhone 4s was announced... He would have had significant input into the iPhone 5 (design still wouldn't have been finalized), but the iPhone 6 was released 3 years after his death. If there was any discussion/input from Steve at all it would have been very preliminary

If you were going to place the Touch ID on the back, why not integrate it into the Apple Logo?

Apple logo is too high. It's more convenient lower.

This design doesn't appeal to me at all. Touch ID on the middle in the back? Not only does it looks ugly but it's also a very inconvenient place to put it.
You think? I agree that I prefer it where it is now, but I fully admit that it absolutely could be due to my 9 years of using iPhones with the home button (and touch ID for 3 years) in that location. I think front/back absolutely could be a subjective thing or an adjustment thing or even an implementation thing. HOWEVER, if Apple is unable to integrate touch ID into the screen, and the screen grow to cover the entire front, then the ONLY place is to put it on the back. If it is put on the back, then I think the location shown in this render is exactly where I would want it. Do you disagree?

Side thought: touch ID on the back will be especially easy to "find" (a potential concern of mine) when using a case with a perfect cut out for it.

All my Apple products say "Designed by Apple in California" This drawing certainly looks suspect for being designed in California. Maybe Chinese is the official language now in California?

It's as if Apple looked at the Galaxy S8 and tried to figure out ways to make it thinner and uglier in the process. But gotta say with Tim Cook at the helm this could be how the new iPhone looks

I don't believe they'll ship a phone with touchID on the back.
Either they'll have very few units at launch or they'll find another solution. But keeping the same design with the huge bezel doesn't seem a good option, after Samsung S8 everyone is expecting next iPhone to be bezel free

No curved screens? Let this be true! I'm using a Galaxy S7 Edge now as my iPhone 7 Plus is in for services and even though it's a beautiful phone I do really hate the curved screens. I'm touching the sides all the damn time while typing on the keyboard etc messing things up 9 out of 10 times. It's horrible. Let the iPhone 8 have a flat screen please.

There have always been lots of leaks if you were paying attention. There might be a slight increase in leaks, however 1) many of these "leaks" might be 100% fake (or true) and we will never know. Even if the iPhone 8 looks nothing like this it could be an accurate alternate design. 2) the scale of apple is so massive now. There are at least twice as many people/locations/companies involved with ramp up starting much earlier... That makes it impossible to clamp down entirely. In fact the scale/importance of apple has surely increased the number of fake leaks to gain attention/notoriety.

It has started, just like i predicted yesterday, touchid in-screen won' t work in time, time for apple to " break-in" touchid on the back.
A shame, still hoping it is a prototype, and not the final version
