The vertical camera looks totally out of place. If it's in the middle it would have been more symmetrical. Gosh this makes my jet black 7+ looks quite good

Hm, am I the only on digging it? Say it was called a iPhone 7C and was $200 cheaper, made with grippy polycarbonate. Yes please. The teal/yellow scheme works for me too. I know it's just a rendering and will most likely not be a production design but I like it.

I don't necessarily think that touchID on the back is a terrible idea (although I'd much prefer it to be on the front) but that placement of the touchID sensor in the middle seems like a really bad idea. I just tried what it would feel like to press on it there, and it seems like no matter how I hold the phone, I have to contort my fingers slightly to reach that spot. Placing it where the Apple logo is now, would be a much better spot.

The camera... vertical it looks just wrong, also still protruding?
If this turns out to be true (hopefully not) that is a no-buy for me

Also, disappointed with physical buttons still present. It's time to ditch them.
I wish my phone had more physical buttons. Or at least pretend haptic buttons. Everything in software is slower. Wake the screen, slide up the control panel, and then use my eyes to find and adjust the volume slider? Vs instant up/down with just touch and minimal thought? Are you just anti-usability?

People are taking the schematics too literally. the colors in the image aren't going to be in the final product.

This actually looks like it will be a beautiful device. Imagine a black stainless steel frame and matte black finish. The front of the phone being entirely black, as one large display...

This will be an awesome device. People just don't seem to understand how schematics can translate into a product.

Actually, as an engineer that works frequently with CAD, I do understand. This is not a color issue. This CAD model depicts an ugly device that is far too similar to the current ugly iPhone 7(+). I am disappointed with Apple's hardware design across their entire product suite. Apple's hardware looks like it was designed in 2010.

The only reason my two phones are iPhones is because of iOS. However, if Apple doesn't nail the design for this next phone, I'm going to jump to Samsung. I've already (sadly) transitioned off of my MacBook Pro.

I am willing to pay Apple's premium only if they give me the best software on (near) the best hardware. Right now, they aren't in the top 5 hardware designers.

Well considering how he passed a couple days after the iPhone 4s was announced... He would have had significant input into the iPhone 5 (design still wouldn't have been finalized), but the iPhone 6 was released 3 years after his death. If there was any discussion/input from Steve at all it would have been very preliminary.

I recall in the Walter Isaacson biography that Apple were working on iPhones that were, at the time, about 3 iterations beyond what was publicly available. Perhaps input from Steve would have been preliminary but if Isaacson is correct then he did in fact work on the iPhone 6 in some capacity (and thus his design input has likely been carried forward through the iPhone 7, which as we all know is similar to the iPhone 6.)

All the people saying this isn't going to happen are like the 2014 people who said there would be no bigger phone.

I don't think people are saying it isn't going to happen... more that it's a hideous design, and so in keeping with the 6/6s/7 with the camera humps, curved edges, etc, it probably IS what Apple will release. Hence the incredulity.

Wouldn't a TouchID on the back pretty much kill Apples (and every 3rd party) case market? Or we'll start getting those really ugly cases with big fat cutouts in the back to accommodate for the TouchID? Kinda ugly.

I don't see it happening, but who knows?

Having the top and bottom portion not symmetrical is very unlike Apple.

Yeah, that's why we have that bezel on the top. It could be really tiny but it wouldn't match the size of the home button so they keep it huge.
If they could shrink the touchID and make it rectangular they could save space, but I find it unlikely.

It's funny that some posters think the render is a fake because of the teal/yellow colors.

Those colors are actually used in the DVT/EVT process to identify what stage of development the device is at.

Ironically, what some posters think is fake is in reality what lends credibility to the renders being real.

No way the circle in the back is Touch ID. It's way too low if it is..maybe some type of connector/sensor for wireless charger or AR related sensor?

Less is more, plus less hardware to eventually break.

1.5mm thicker and still a camera bump???

As if you are actually questioning this "Design" with question marks indicated at the end of your sentence ?

This isn't even a render, it's a fictitious design drawing that has no credibility what so ever.

I'm hoping the dual camera remains horizontal, not vertical, and that Touch ID, if moving to the back of the phone, is integrated in such a way as to look more attractive than this render suggests. Those are my only real complaints about this design as I actually do like the idea of having a software home button and fingerprint reader on the back of the device. This render looks very ugly, however, so I hope that it is not reflective of a finalized design.

Believe it or not, but Android phone manufacturers have in fact had some decent ideas over the years and I wouldn't complain if some of those ideas made their way onto future iPhones (one of which is the rear fingerprint sensor idea).

Lastly, I think the materials used to construct this iPhone will be determinative of whether it's a true "anniversary edition" or not. While I think this design too closely resembles the iPhone 6 and 7, if it were constructed of glass and stainless steel like the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, and 5S, that would scream "anniversary edition" to me.
