We are all expecting touch id to work under the glass/OLED panel (or somehow embedded into it?), but does anyone have any examples of this type of technology demonstrated anywhere?

What would be the purpose of rotating the cameras so that they were vertical? And the flash below the cameras?

It would be funny if true. How's that for a redesign?
Frees up room in the top part of the phone; would probably allow for a better camera (especially if it's being repositioned to right of center) and/or earpiece audio with a deeper chassis. The rear camera takes up virtually all of the depth in the upper-right corner of the phone, so it's hard to squeeze anything else above or behind it.

The 9.7" iPad Pro's flash is below the camera (with the home button on the bottom), so this isn't totally unprecedented.

Touch ID on the back sounds fine (just like many Android phones), until you put the phone in your car. Then it is a total hassle. Plus Apple has been training its users for the home button placement/usage for so long, it's foolish imo to do this now (unless Apple do it both ways, which is unlikely).

This looks like something Tim Cook would approve. The iPhone 5 was the last iPhone design Steve was personally involved in. Even today it is the gold standard in smartphone design.

Nah, the 7 is pretty slick.

While that may have been true back then, it isn't so much now. Samsung's latest S8 certainly looks like the design to beat now.

On a different note, I'd be disappointed if these renders are true. Having the fingerprint reader located in the middle like that makes it really uncomfortable to unlock the phone. The best placement would be where the Apple logo is. Hell, they could have made the logo itself a fingerprint reader.

9to5mac's renders of this design look pretty good to me. There's probably a very good reason for a vertical camera arrangement. Why is the camera orientation on the 7Plus not considered weird? I take most of my photos in landscape which would be the 'correct' configuration fro this design.

This is what I looked at right after looking at the schematics. Just looking at schematics every iPhone we've ever seen has been ugly. But looking at these renders, this looks pretty solid to me.

Hope it doesn't end up being that wide. The Samsung S8 managed a 5.8 screen and is only 1 mm wider than the regular iphone, surely the iphone 8 doesn't need to be 5 mm wider to fit the same screen. This is obviously not an issue for anyone who is used to the plus, but the regular iphone is almost too wide for me to use one handed, which is still an important feature for me.

It's also a pretty ugly design, hopefully the actual design looks better or it may have trouble competing with the S8.
i have to agree with u , my biggest problem with the iPhone 6,6s,7 its to wide and not easy to hold with one hand .
if this true it means the iphone 8 is taller and wider than the S8 which !!!

Looks surprisingly great; however I do think the back looks a bit busy with the vertically-placed camera flash so close to the Apple logo and the TouchID ring. Just a tad too much going on within those few inches of space.

The current ipod Touch is what the iPhone 6-7 are modeled after. That was approved by Jobs.

It has started, just like i predicted yesterday, touchid in-screen won' t work in time, time for apple to " break-in" touchid on the back.
A shame, still hoping it is a prototype, and not the final version

Yes maybe..however...I doubt that Apple will place touch id on the back of the iPhone simply because it would only be a temporary solution until they get the yield rates higher for placing touch id underneath the front screen. I can not see them doing this huge u-turn.
It is so un heard of that they are u turning on the Mac pro .
So I fail to see it on the iPhone.
This simply could be a way to see who is leaking information. Give someone you suspect of not being able to keep sensitive info under wraps and make sure that they are the only person who knows.
Then make sure that information is something that is so unlikely to happen..so unique that if you see it appear in the press etc you know it could only have come from that person.

Disgusting. To much of a cheap Samsung look. Tim would never approve.

I don't understand when people say that.

Tim Cook is a supply chain and operations guy. He grew up streamlining manufacturing and operations. He's not a Jony Ive or a Steve Jobs. If this iPhone 8 design is going to make money and Apple can manufacture it efficiently, he's going to green light it.

If this is real - now cases will need a hole on the back for the touch id.

I can see the thread already my case let sand/dirt/etc scratch my NEW JB i8 on the back due to a poor design/flaw and now I want Apple to replace it free with a NEW model.

I dont like the it but I wont lie and say I wont buy it -----;):):D:eek:

this...was going to say this design is ok but I will not use my phone without a case or a case with a hole - that's hideous

I would rather them not put anything out than them putting this out. Hopefully this is just a rejected prototype. I cannot imagine that Phil Schiller would be "Excited to be the first to show off the new iPhone <insert suffix here" if it looked like that.
