But note the Mac on his desk in the background.

I wonder if he still has a Mac on his desk.

EEK. You win.

That's like...Microsoft pr0n. I'd hate to see how far those poses and pictures could go...*hides in the corner of a dark, cold room, rolled up into the fetal position sucking my thumb* Find a happy place, find a happy place...

Nope. Look again. 1000 tera-units is 1 peta-unit (prefix P). 1000 peta-units is 1 exa-unit (prefix E).

16EB is 16 million TB. Which is 2^64.

Oops. That's right. I've gotten too used to going the other way (negative factor units). Anyway I shouldn't have this confused, since at work our backup program (Veritas Backup Exec) likes to tell us that our client hard drives are 4 PB and thus can't be backed up over the network. They are, in fact all less than 20GB.

Ah, the joys of Windows computing...

(There's also the issue of variance between the American and British billion, so we really should all just use SI labels, or just go with the metric system like we've been threatened by school teachers for 40 years.)

 Uhhh, thanks to those lovely pics I think maybe I'll skip dinner tonight.

Pretty yuck as my teenager would say.

15th dec. 2004 - Apple gets this CPU first.

dreams off:

The G5 isn´t atm a notebook chip. Too much heat, too little space.
The 970GX could be cooler but i don´t think so.

The G4 7448 will maybe in the PowerBooks in Oct/Nov 2005, up to 2 GHz and better Bus. The production of this CPU will start in summer and of course, a "real" notebook CPU.

And maybe in summer 2006 a special version of the 970MP with only one or two core(s) find the way into the PowerBooks. But there will be also the Dual Core G4 MPC8641D,

The G4 is a good chip for the Books, only freescale is too slow to develop new one. But there is no alternative. :(
So don´t expect on next Tuesday the great surprise, it won´t come! Sure, the Centrinos are faster, but Apple havn´t sorcer for better G4s/cooler G5s. ;)

Here's to crossed fingeres

I could get dizzy trying to keep track of all the specualitive possibilities for PB revisions. Do I splurge on a small upgrade if it comes out? Do i shoot myself in the foot as an early G5 PB adopter if that be the case? Do i have the strength to wait another several months if - God forbid - apple waits that long to throw a bone the way of the PB users? Everybody seems to have good reasons (for the most part) for why they believe what they do, so it's hard (not being technically astute on 74xx or x8oo or all that crap) to set myself down on any one side of the rumors fence. However, I love apples stuff, and I am forced to believe in my heart of hearts that something worthy of my money isn't far off. Apple is the company to look at when you want rumor-shattering surprises from left field. they've pleasantly surprised me before and they can do it again. And given how long it's been since anything has happened to the PB's, I've got both fingeres crossed that it will be something considerable, and dare i hope, HUGE. But at this point, I'll probably be buying whatever they come out with next, since in all honesty, my web and print design work dont tax a CPU all that much. However, a question for any owners of the current 17inch line. How does the 17inch play Halo? this is important to me, as I need a good halo fix everyday and I want to know my PB will cut it.

Fingers crossed, and constantly hitting reload on apples storepage.

Why G4 powerbook still?

Tiger is build for 64 bit processing. Why still have Powerbook on the 32 bit CPU?

the next powerbook will be G5, and I think it will be out in March or sooner. When the ipod shuffle news is cooling down. Apple will release the powerbook to heat up the Apple products news again and 80gb color ipod!

*sighs* People just don't get it. We've gone though 15 pages of explaining why Apple would go to a G5. Why it might not be possible, why it would be possible and then someone comes onstage with a bold statement without knowing anything about why 64-bit is and isn't important. Why does anyone even bother?

I don't understand why so many people are putting their foot down on things that they are certain are not going to happen. Who cares, I hope Apple surprises us and makes all the naysayers in this thread get red-faced. :D

I'm glad I'm not only one stupid enough to do this.

Not even close, I've made my share of store "checks" today. Speaking of which, even the stock powerbooks are now at least a 3-5 day wait on the Apple US site.

Looks like I'll get to order my new 12" PB soon.... :D

There's a buzz in the air...

now the 15 inch models and up are 7-10 days on even the stock configurations. I'm getting so excited, I'm gonna blow soon.

everyone hit reload with me.....1.....2.....3.....wait for it.......NOW!.......
REPEAT UNTIL NEW POWERBOOKS SHOW UP ON STORE PAGE

Woah, good news

That's great.

Now that the US store is doing it the entire world has a lack of new powerbooks...

Hm.. could an update possibly be soon?

Dare I hope? Or have I lost all faith?

what exactly does this mean? the fact that they moved it to 7-10 days?

Does anyone else notice the highlighting on the non-US store pages?

The iLife version, processor speed, video card, and Airport Extreme sections are blue text, rather than the standard grey. Was it always like this, or are these little hints at which updates to expect soon?

The Mac mini has no blue highlights, nor do the Cinema Displays or iPod photo. The PowerMac, eMac, PowerBook, iBook, and even iMac have some of this blue highlighting, for processor speed and graphics hardware typically.

Sorry to contribute to the frenzy, but I'm a bit puzzled by all this.

Lose all faith. It’s the best way of not being disappointed when the rumors turn out to be false and you are in for a pleasant surprise when they are spot on. Kind of a neg view but for me its one that works well with a site like Macrumors. :p

It means their supplies are tighter. If this was an isolated incident it would mean that maybe a region is having problems supplying the demand, but since this is across the board it suggests that Apple may be clearing the pipeline for something. Or maybe not. Maybe there is a Post MW surge in PowerBook sales and maybe monkeys might fly....well you know.

the 15" and 17" standard config powerbook are 7-10 days in canada too ... but maybe they are jsut waiting for the new stock to come preloaded with iLife 05? i sure hope not though ... i already ordered a BTO 15" powerbook and the est ship time is 10-15 ... i just hope it updates before my pb ships

Now see, this is a tottaly legitimate reason to have SKU change, EOLing the ones with older SW.

Nice find there!

Last time I saw those blue_highlited specs was just week or two before iBook update in late 2004...
Only thing I don't like here is no update for 12" iBook... that just sucks.

Yesterday I was at the local Apple distributor here in Slovenia (Europe) and they told me that I'll have to wait at least 2 weeks to get iBook 12", because there is no iBooks in stock in main european warehouse...

Is it just because of iLife '05 update, or maybe something more?

Man, it doesn't make me feel good to know that my April 04 purchase of a 12" PowerBook is already obsolete! Should I sell my PB now so it doesn't drop is resale value when the new PB lines come out?
