How hard can it be for them to do this???? Lots of people have said that they are after the last revision of the PB before it goes to intel. I don't care if the current PB IS the last revision, i just want to know that i have the best possible PPC PB. If Apple came out tomorrow and said that there will be no PB updates before they go intel I would go out and buy one straight away. I don't want the best most up to date technology, just the product that will tie me over the best until rev. C of the intels.

Anyone else like me??? i.e doesn't think that current PB is *****, just that they are waiting incase there is one last update before switch to intel.

I agree with that fully. I want a Powerbook for University next year for which I'm currently saving up, and I was thinking that it would be great to have a brand new Rev. A Intel PB, that decides to kill itself when I really need it.

I'm just going for whatever's out around May and that'll keep me sorted for the next 3/4 years, I'm sure Apple mentioned they would keep supporting PPC for the next 3-5 years.

I will also purchase the last PPC PowerBook if introduced. If not, I'll wait for Rev B of the Intel to come out and here the review on it and buy if good.

I'd rather get a new one before the Intel ones and then live with that for a couple of years until the inevitable software incompatibility issues are sorted.

Me too. Now if I was rich I'd buy the biggest baddest powermac of em all, just to have experienced the full glory of the G5 chip before it goes obsolete. Mmmmm Powermac ....

Apple is preparing something...but what?

A guy from whirlpool (a forum that everyone from Australia uses) posted this link that suggests that we may see updates across the whole Apple line.

Can you imagine if this is true? A lot of people have said that Apple are pretty much going to ignore most of the Apple lines and focus solely on the switch to Intel sometime next year. But how about if they had one last update in store for everything across the board. Imagine the hype and sales that it would generate for the Christmas period. I know it takes an optimist to even consider this but Apple are known for doing weird things.

I want the latest PPC PB

Well i just recently sold my Powerbook 1.5 12" a week ago... in hopes of this new PB with the 7448 chip. The one i just sold, still kinda slow to me. In a way i kinda felt like it was the same speed as my Titanium PB with 1Ghz... (maybe cause it had a 1MB L3 cache...)... Anyway this new chip should be way faster because of faster speed and cooler engine. Tech dudes tell me if i'm wrong but is it true that the hotter the chip the slower it'll go??? Well it definitely felt that way.. I want the newest PPC simply because i know my native programs won't run that great on a MacTel. I don't want to spend my money on a MacTel computer when not all my programs will run native on it. Rosetta will work, yes... but how fast and how much ram do i need to make it run great??

But yea i want the fastest G4 out there possible... i just have this principle that the last of any series will always be the most quality and last the longest.. weird philosophy maybe

hmmm...

I basically agree with alot of these next tuesday speculations.

But...an observation.

On the UK Apple Store page, they advertise the educational promo (free iPod with a laptop, etc..) as scheduled to end on October 8th. Seems like they may still be trying to clear some stuff out for a little while longer than we think.

The first and last revisions are always the most problematic. The first revisions because they still have a considerable number of bugs and design flaws and the last revisons because they are cost reduced. This is a universal rule and applies to all products ranging from cars to kettles. The powerbook is no exception.

You seem to contradict yourself. On one hand, you say you want to know that you "have the best possible PPC PB" ...but you then say that you "don't want the best most up to date technology, just the product that will" get you through the first few MacTel versions. If you just want an excellent PowerBook that can get you through the next few years, then why are you lamenting?

Apple will release when the product is ready. They're not going to tell you ahead of time, because --being a smart business-- they don't want to tamper with people's buying habits now. Be grateful they're not saying they'll be introducing something on such-and-such a date, only to have it fall through because of an engineering problem or manufacturing delay... I think we've all had enough of the vaporware wave of the 90's. I'm anxious too for the last PowerPC PowerBook and I'm sure Apple is well aware of how many people are anxiously waiting for it, but let's give them a break... they'll release a PowerBook as soon as it's ready.

Every day that goes by without a PB update I'm glad I finally stopped waiting and bought my iBook two months ago. It's no PB, but I have it, and it works, so it will keep my happy until the Intel PBs.

Frankly if I had decided to wait, given I first began shopping around May, I'd be pulling my hair out through my teeth by now.

On the other hand, commiserations to anyone who has been biding their time. Hopefully something comes out before the Intel upgrades, or there are going to be riots in the streets. Few things are as scary as geeks hurling their iPods through the windows of an Apple Store.

I agree, I'm in the same position. I will wait until the end of October before upgrading my old G4 400. Then I will wait untill the Expo in January before going out and buying whatever is out. But, if they announced that nothing new is coming out until June or later or if they announce new powerbooks I will buy tommorow!

Dual core G4 PB by Jan. with delivery in March 05., Freescale 7448 low-power G4 PB available by MWSF 2005, and the ever popular PB G5 possibly as early as MWSF 2005.

Others insisted that we would only see moderate speed bumps of 1.8 to 2 Ghz with 200 mhz FSB, improved screens, bigger faster HDD, better GPU, and possibly new form factor.

How about those of us who said there weren't going to be any significant upgrades, and the likelihood of seeing a G5 PowerBook ranged somewhere between "slim" to "none" right off the bat. ;)

Interestingly, *any* build to order options on the Superdrive 15-inch Powerbook brings up a 2-3 week wait time.

I've been waiting two weeks for mine already. Hope it means something. But this is really it. I can't take any more of this thread; too much self-inflicted pain!

I just checked the 15-inch PB w/Combo Drive. If you change it to a SuperDrive, the wait time is only 1-3 business days. Not sure what this means.

The shipping has moved to 2 days for the 15" (with no upgrades) from 24 hours in the UK store. Not sure if it means anything.

It means that the UK store lags well behind stock as contrasted to the US Stores and that SJ suckers all the Europeans to wait out even longer than we do. Just like they used to do with movie premieres. We'd get them months in advance, then you, then Asia, then ... those delays mean nothing and there will be no new powerbook updates for this holiday season.

According to that guy it's new everything on Tuesday :D

It's most of the time Tuesday; ah stop; except for the Mac Mini, that one gets updated without notice, it just gets shipped.
