PowerBooks at MacExpo

Hi out there,

rumors about new PBs are coming and going but we didn't see any new PBs just rumors :-(
From my point of view we might see new PBs at the MacExpo (a little bit more than 3 weeks from now).
Why should Apple present the PBs now? What should they present at the MacExpo, only the shipping date for 10.3?

Lates wait an see

Re: PowerBooks at MacExpo

"Why should Apple present the PBs now?"
1.) Apple wants to move away from announcing new products solely at trade shows.
2.) The Expo is a consumer show; they would announce consumer products, like the iMac or iBook (as they have done in the past).

"What should they present at the MacExpo[?]"

For starters, talk more about Panther. They only skimmed it back in June. Also, let us know when it will be ready and shipping. Secondly, Apple should announce the international iTunes Music Store. Thirdly, they should let us know about the progress in porting it to Windows and the associated agreements that need to made to make it happen on Windows with the music companies.

Lastly, if you read the tea leaves, it appears as though the hardware that will be announced at the Expo will be the iMac.

Apple Expo vs. Mac Expo

Okay, I must have missed something. I see there is an Apple Expo in Paris on 16-20 September and then a Mac Expo in London from 20-22 September. Is there a year typo on one of those or are they both for real.

I also noticed that everyone is pinning hopes on the Mac Expo but I cannot find where Apple has secured the Keynote at that event.

Can anyone clear this up for me?!

I've also decided not to buy a PowerBook and went for a Desktop upgrade instead. I guess that is Apple's loss for now.

Where is Apple's shipping delay

I have read several time that people have seen the shipping estimates for various computers on AppleStore... where is that located?

t minus 6 minutes till 9am ET... if there aren't new PBs today, i'm going to explode... I don't even think I'm going to buy one regardless, I've just been so caught up in the hoopla that now I need to at least see these lighted keyboards and the so called OSX - blackrider

In Australia it has allways been a case of at least a couple of weeks for a pb. This is so the stores can justify high prices by leading us to beleive high demand and low supply conditions.
Had I not run into these rumour sites I would allready be enjoying a ti15pb. I promised myself last week that I would buy on this thursday regardless, Yet stil..... i have NOT. This wait has gone on long enough and I can't stand it anymore. So I have placed myself in a position where I can not afford a new pb for a couple of months. I went and ordered a performance chip for my car and are changing the stereo in it yet again. So I can't afford it. At least it takes my mind of the wait. BTW, I think I would rather have a 15pb than the 12" egg frier or 17 with all it's bent lid, mosquito, buzzes and other related noises.
but hey, if they come out next week, i'll just use that credit card again. Also I saw somewhere, but I can't find it again, that the new 17 will not be made of aircraft grade aluminium but a recycled aluminium.

oh well, it's Thursday now... so all the Apple execs should be having that meeting sometime today.

now they're getting everything checked and double checked for a PowerBook release tomorrow. ;)

*BZZT* Wrong.

They are all in a board room with an old AL15" PB hooked up to a projector and they are surfing all the rumor boards and reading all these threads...laughing their asses off at how we hang on every word that comes out of Jobs' mouth ("year of the laptop")

Afterwhich, they start counting all the beans they made on the G5 pre-orders. Once that excitement is done, they pull the engineering team in and ask the next powerbook update with mobile G5's will be available next summer.

I'm going to bet that nothing is released this week, any takers on that bet? Of course, that's a bet I'd gladly lose.

Apple is losing out on the lucritive "back to school" business going on right now!!

They already lost it. Kids are returning to school in less than 2 weeks. Even if they announced updates today, they probably wouldn't ship for 6-8 weeks. Who can wait another 2 months to take delivery?

Steve is really a credit card teaser, there a just so many people out there waiting to yank out their CC for that new 15"pb that they'll be ready to pay whatever as long as it comes out (I'm one of them since the MWSF 03) even if they are over priced with a not so good video card.

I think we should intend him a class action law suit for reducing our productivity by consulting rumors site waiting for the new PB.

OR we should just boycott it and sit tight until the G5 pb comes out. We've been waiting 8 months for we can surely wait another 8 months.

But there is something no one mentioned. Each time TS had a rumors right, Apple's lawer sent out a S&D to them (emac speed bump, Isight, G5 spec before G5 out...) and there hasn't been any of those... Either the rumors is BS or Sue is on vacation.

I'm not betting on that, it's a sure thing they won't release them this week. Better still you won't see any updates till later this year!
The G5 has the lime light now and they won't let anything pop that bubble, it will be sometime after the dual 2GHz G5 ships that we may see something.

I got it!

Steve was right all along!
This IS the year of "the laptop." Notice he didn't say the year of "the laptops" in plural. So far so good. Almost a year with only one laptop to choose (in each size).

This really sucks. I'm about to buy an iBook, but I know that the 12" AlBook will get an illuminated keyboard the day after my purchase. Arrgh.

www.apple.com.au have all 5 config's of the PowerBook with 1-2 days shippping. IMHO looking at which stores have no stock is not a way of predicting when they are going to release new models.

Did I say I was predicting the release of new models?? Noooo I don't believe I did.

I'm just killing time between refreshes of their apple's page. :(

I had this vision of today's meeting ending, Jobs slapping both hand down on the table declaring "Alright, Let's do it!" After which everybody proceeds to do their jobs to update the website and send out the new powerbooks immediatley, meaning, like right now.
Ahh.... I love daydreams.

Shipping times from Apple are still about the same-a little longer for the 15" models, but nothing drastic. I don't know where people are getting these week long ship dates from. Same day shipping on many of the models dosen't seem too hopefull :)

Apple would be insane to wait for a trade show to update the PowerBook. They desperatly needed an update 2 months ago, and they can still get a fraction of the back to school business, if they update NOW.

The iMac might get updated at those shows-that seems to be the rumor with it. Let's hope the new PowerBooks have either a Geforce 5650 or a Radeon 9600 with 128MB in at least some of the configs. If these things come out using a stupid 5200 after all this time...

I agree, this would make the most sense.
Then again, new powerbooks were the rumors the seemed to be with NY and SF. I remember how sure everyone was about NY with Wos giving the keynote and everythig.

So, as much as I want my Al15 tomorrow, i've been let down too many times to really get my hopes up

No new Powerbooks?

Well with school starting in less than a week and already underway in some places, It seems that Apple has already missed the boat to catch the back to school crowd with great new lineup of PB updates.

I hope I am wrong but this would make me think that the company is not in a big hurry to get us new PBs. Although everything I have been reading would suggest that they are..

But they did not bring them in NY or SF...I don't think too many College freshman are looking to buy a $4000 supercomputing G5 for their dorm-room.

So I am a bit confused by Apple's strategic direction. If it were me and I had the ability to release product, it would have been done at the beginning of August instead of now. They have missed the boat with school buyers.

un-LOL. :( dude, don't say that. people are already on the verge of a nervous breakdown, they don't need any help.

i'm still betting that you will have to gladly lose your bet come Friday. ;)

WasteGate, yeah it's weird that Apple Australia has a 1-2 days ship time when Apple U.S. has a 5-7 day build time. Australia is weird like that, hardly anyone knows whats going on.

at least it's good that when they do get released it won't take a couple of months just for the announcement just to get to Australia.:p
