D'oh!!

I couldn't sleep all night, and now i've just got up to see that there are no PowerBook updates yet. :(

I just hope that ThinkSecret is right about Apple trying to get them out later this week, but I don't see why they need a meeting (Thursday) to do that.

If no update happens on Tuesday, does that mean no update will happen this week?

If no update this week, does this mean no update till Sept, *IF THEN*?

So thinksecret was wrong?

Did anyone actually look at ThinkSecret???

Original article states
It's unclear when Apple plans to announce the upgrades, but one Apple retail source said the new 15-inch and 17-inch models are expected to arrive later this week.

Quick personality test:

Over optimist = immediately went to store.apple.com, has been hitting refresh every 10 minutes or less. "Maybe tomorrow???"

Optimist = immedaitely went to store.apple. com. Has reloaded page 10+ times today. Thought, dang maybe next week.

Pessimist, who thinks he's an optmist = immedaitely went to store.apple. com, loaded once. "What no PowerBooks? The end is HERE"

Pessimist = Another rumor? New PBs are NEVER coming.

Masochist = immediately went to store.apple.com, no PBs? Dude, I'm getting a Dell.

Realist = immediately went to ThinkSecret.com, read article, thought, hmmm, wonder what 'arrive later this week' means. PBs officially announced this week? Boxes arrive at brick and mortar stores late this week, product offically announced next week? Or something else? Guess we'll see soon enough."

New Powerbooks

I am truly jealous. ..- I'm usually 3 steps behind. When I saw the original TiBook (release date on the Apple site) I almost had a heart attack as my cursor hovered over the "One Click" button- (I didn't click, I couldn't/can't afford it). I'm currently using an upgraded Wallstreet (512k/40 gig/OS X/Firewire-USB PCMCIA cards) and a (refurb) 10 gig iPod. I just bought an Airport base w/ Aironet card to go wireless (not hooked up yet). Due to lack of $$, my desktop is an older Wintel PC, and my wife uses an (older) IBM laptop. I enjoy reading the posts and checking the Apple site for updates, I can only imagine what it feels like to be able to purchase (and open on delivery) a brand spanking new PB. When you guys get yours (when they finally release 'em) make sure to post pix of them- I'd like to see G5 pix (as well) when you receive them. My wish list:

17" iMac w/ Superdrive

(2) 15" PB w/ Combo drive and Airport Extreme card(s) (one for my wife)

Airport Extreme base

30 gig iPod (for my wife)

someday, hopefully...

I'm just as anxious as the next person out there to see when Apple releases the new PowerBooks. It is not the end of the world.

No one commit suicide if they aren't released this week, okies? Apple makes great computers, but they're not worth killing your self over. That's what the PC makers are for.

Stay sane,

In a word, Yes it is worth losing sleep over. You see this is not a forum for the "I built my computer so it is immediately better" mindset, this is a forum for the have to have the latest, greatest, fastest, coolest, etc., etc. I have been following Apple since the Apple ][e days and I can tell you that we are not mere computer users but religious fanatics in search of nirvana. Of course, we never achieve it because as soon as the latest and greatest is announced we're begging for faster, better, cooler, etc., etc. It is not the computer that matters but the quest.

Seriously though, your right but there are a lot of fanatics who actually physically get ill when expectations are shattered by reality. Liken it to an addiction and you'll come closer to understanding the experience.

Mac Addict for life and all eternity.

We're all geeks, and proud!

I'll admit - I haven't lost sleep yet, but it does cause me frustration. I'm highly tempted in college to stop being a computer geek and no longer to worry about having the latest and greatest.

Except that's never going to happen.

It's an arms race. I know by purchasing an Apple, I'll never be tempted to throw it off the roof of Tower. It'll serve me faithfully and for a long duration of time.

SO APPLE, HURRY IT UP DOWN IN CUPERTINO, YOU HEAR? Thousands of your loyal fans are incredibly anxious to open their pocketbooks and hearts to some spiffy new PowerBooks. We've waited so very long.

Semper Mac. :D

I'm beginning to think that Wimpie will repay Popeye for his burgers before we see new PowerBooks on a Tuesday.

People...people...people...Apple has released products on days other than Tuesdays. The last revision of the 15-inch PowerBook was done on a Wednesday. That's right! Wednesday, November 6th, as a matter of fact. It was supposed to be the 5th, but that day was Election Day, bad PR so they bumped it up a day to Wednesday. The previous revision prior to that was done on a Monday morning, along with the debut of the eMac.

Also, Think Secret, which is very accurate, said:

It's unclear when Apple plans to announce the upgrades, but one Apple retail source said the new 15-inch and 17-inch models are expected to arrive later this week.
Key wording there being "later this week."

Please don't get your hopes up, folks!

Think Secret nailed the iPod details before it came out, nailed the update to the last rev of the iBook, and details surrouding Mac OS X updates, and the iTMS. Have faith!

Okay, at the risk of loosing cool points, I admit to being a little of all those categories.

:p I'd say I'm in multiple categories too. Maybe the personality test isn't quite the thing for this rumor; are the 'stages of mourning' closer to the truth? (Shock, denial, anger, depression, acceptance :))

Well I believe, maybe foolishly, that we will see PB updates announced this week. So, I was obviously disappointed this morning, like many of you I assume. But now I’ve managed to look on the bright side. Here is why:

1.Barring National elections product announcement usually
happen on Monday or Tuesday from what I understand.
2.They didn’t happen on Monday or Tuesday, so there will be
no product announcement.

So wait, where is the bright side?

3.It will be a product launch!! And it will happen as soon as the
PBs are ready to ship!

No paper announcements, to be delivered in 2 months. If we see PBs this week we will really get to see them! I think some of the rumor sites are backing me up on this.

Think Secret: “one Apple retail source said the new 15-inch and 17-inch models are expected to arrive later this week”

Power Page: “There is a huge push to get the new PowerBooks into the channel for the lucrative back-to-school buying season.” That season is just about over.

If apple was just going to announce that new PBs are coming they would to it on a Monday or Tuesday. So if the announcement comes on Wed-Sat, it will be the real thing.

I’m right aren’t I Steve? Please don’t let it be Paris, Please. :(

ARGH

YET AGAIN my 12" powerbook shipment has been delayed a week, until the 26th (another tuesday  ), by then it would have been 20 days since my order, I'm going to call apple and demand a ****ing explanation.

Not only that ,but if it get shipped the 26th, i wont have it till the 29th, which is the day i leave (at 6am) for school, so I wont get it for _another_ week.

sleep needed

it's time for me to go to sleep, and yet again i will be setting my alarm to deprive me of it so that I get up early enough to check the mac website. if my new 15" albook isn't staring me in the face, Well I swear I just might......I JUST MIGHT...... be really depressed.............and do the same damn thing on thursday.

Much better if the "window" you're relying on has a neon sign that hints of Happy Hour, beer on tap, salty snacks, and Monday Night Football.

powerbook processors

One thing that really bugs me about apple and there laptops is their insistance on reducing processor speeds as they decrease screen size. why should you be penalised just because you want a small screen. all the laptops should have the same processor and connectivity/features but price should vary according to screen size only.
all get 1.25ghzG4, 256mb, 60gbHD, superdrive.
ok maybe vary the graphics card to allow for the bigger screen in the 17" model, but thats all.
Also the 12" should be a 13.1" wide screen instead.
The ibook should have a 14" screen and a 1ghzG4 in it with combo drive.
The 12" ibook should become the ebook with a 1ghzG3 processor in it with dvd.
this i feel would clarify the line up much better.

Definitely agree on processors being the same across the line, I hate that! But the 12" Powerbook is popular b/c of it's size, if it was a 13.1" widescreen it wouldn't have that cool "footprint the same as a sheet of paper" thing going for it.

I agree. I've been watching the 12" PB and iBooks pretty close since I want that size. If updates don't come soon, I will probably so with the 12" PB but a minor update to the iBook line might tip the scale. (I would like to see audio in and USB 2.0 to make the iBook a seller.... don't think that's too much to ask for.)

The 12" PB is good as it is but I would like USB 2.0. I am getting close to the drop dead time for a purchase, so I hope Apple updates soon. I need a portable computer during my move to Japan.

I would have liked for my 12" PB to have come with 1GHz but given the heat problems at 867MHz I don't think it was possible at the time.

I have to admit though that after I increased the memory to 640MB the laptop is just warm and if the outside temperature is relatively low then the PB is not even warm. So it could have been nice to have included a 1GHz PB12" with 512 standard internal memory. It seems to me that the major heating problems come from high HD usage rather than the processor.
