but it seems like nobody is willing to sell theirs on local marketplaces anymore
Where do you live? If in the States i’ll send you a dual (not a DC) 2ghz G5 for free (minus a HD) for the cost of shipping. It’s my old InterWebPPC/ArticFoxPPC/DarkWeb browser build machine. It has a bent foot from previous shipping, but dev machines don’t need to be pretty. ;)

Incredible! I have been using this for a couple of days now and have encountered zero problems for my day to day use on a Early 2011 17" MBP running 10.6.8

@Jazzzny Are you going to sunset InterWeb in favour of PowerFox development going forward? Just so I know which one to keep using. Thanks again for all of your hard work! :)

Hello, PowerFox

Happy new year!

I'm happy to introduce a new web browser for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. It is vastly compatible, open-source, and includes everything InterWeb 55 has and much more.

View attachment 2593021

To refresh your memory, this includes:
- Excellent support for the modern web - JavaScript, CSS, and HTML standards - even better than before.
- WebGL
- Color emoji
- Support for modern video codecs - in particular, they are much more lightweight than before

For the first time, PowerFox also supports:
- Language Packs (Over 90 languages are available)
- Full OpenGL browser acceleration
- and much more!

From a technical standpoint, PowerFox is based on much newer code than InterWeb 55 and is much more maintainable for future development.

You can download a copy from http://powerfox.jazzzny.me/ - let me know how it goes!

Enjoy another year of web browsing on your Snow Leopard Mac, and thank you so much for all the support!

I also have future plans, which are already well underway, including a modern, lightweight email client based on Thunderbird with full Oauth2 support for services such as Gmail, and a PowerPC version of PowerFox for 10.5, based on the same codebase, meaning it will have the same level of modern web compatibility. Stay tuned!

- Jazzzny

(if you're wondering about the website, its to pay homage to TFF's old "spoof" website.)
currently using it, could not ask for more! would 100% recommend

Thanks for continuing to help save this old horse from the glue factory. ;-)
This is wonderful! Many thanks for developing this browser. So far, it works well on my Macbook Pro 2010! Nice to have a decent up-to-date browser for Snow Leopard. I have used ArcFox and SnowLion, but it does not look like it is getting security updates recently, so this is a breath of fresh air to add more life to an old workhorse that I on occation pull out.

Thanks again!

Try this extension. I haven’t tried it with PF, but it should install w/out issue.

Thanks @wicknix, it installed and attempted to import the .CSV file but failed with an error message about the logins already existing in password manager.

signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled is missing from about:config :(

I'll try the old-fashioned method of copying over the Firefox profile folder and see if that solves it.

Thank you @Jazzzny for your efforts. A question that may seem trivial (and if so, I apologize in advance): can I safely do online banking with this browser? I find it more convenient to do it from my Mac rather than using my iPad as I do now.

While the browser should be generally secure, banks may block the browser for its useragent, so you may want to override it if you wish to do online banking

Testing it out right now on my MBP 2,2 and it is working great! Forum loads correctly and in-browser YouTube is working great too. It even detected my copy of ublock Origin Legacy (unsure if it picked up the original or the astroskipper modified one as I'm not sure which profile PowerFox imported). Anyway, great browser! Looking forward to the future of this browser.

I haven't tried it.
Sorry, lack of trust.
I believe Gorhhill was the developer of uBlockOrigin and not someone else.
Lack of extensions is a downside, too.
I only hope that I am wrong about my opinion and you guys relax and enjoy!

He is, but he stopped developing the legacy version years ago. There is a modified version of the final release of legacy that serves as an unofficial update. The modified version was done by Astroskipper over on the MSFN forums.

Hello everyone,

Another dumb question, but does anyone know how to make your new tab open with your homepage instead of a blank tab or top sites? I would prefer that new tabs open up at my homepage, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Thanks!

:)

P.S. I'm really enjoying the browser! I just loggen into iCloud on 10.7 Lion no issue with this...cool.

The manual method worked and I was able to export the desired data over to PowerFox. This is what I experienced on a 2010 C2D 2GB MBA:

The performance is noticeably slower and sluggish than that of Firefox running within Catalina on the same machine. Even with PF running solely, YouTube videos lag with the audio playing for several seconds before the video or anything else appears - as happened in the above screenshot. A YouTube page takes about 19 seconds to completely load.

uBlock Origin Legacy installed but then disappeared from the browser bar and didn't return even after it was reinstalled. These are early days, so I look forward to what are presumably teething troubles being ironed out in future updates. In the meantime, it's back to Catalina on this machine.

I'm happy to see that it's working for others.

Sorry, but you need to keep your expectations in check.
PowerFox is a one-person operation (me), backed by a browser engine codebase maintained by around 5 people, while Firefox has been developed by tens of thousands of individuals, many of which with full-time occupations at Mozilla. The PowerFox engine is also vastly different from modern Firefox's engine, and the speed improvements made by Firefox cannot be ported over because of a different philosophy held by the UXP team.

I do not work on PowerFox full time, nor would that be a financially viable option. My goal here is to provide a browser that can browse the modern web correctly (unlike older engines such as the ageing Firefox 45 engine of TFF and its derivatives) at a passable speed.

Oh dear. You asked for people to download the browser and let you "know how it goes." I did so - in order for you to receive feedback that will help you to address issues and improve future versions of the browser and now you've taken this as some sort of personal slight and that's a shame.

I think that anyone who is objective and fair will recognise that my post contained no malice or ill will. I expressed happiness that it's working for others and the hope that future versions will resolve the problems that I've experienced. Would you prefer to have not been informed of experiences that highlight problems so that they can be addressed?

I'm well aware that everyone contributes within this community on a volunteer basis. In the past I've offered people money as a token of my esteem and they declined. Anyway, good luck with the project and thanks for your efforts. :)

That's interesting. So far on my 2008 White MacBook running Lion I find PowerFox is running excellent. I also saw uBlock origin disappear from the browser bar, but that wasn't too big of a deal as it is still installed and working, just a glitch or whatever I assume. Funny you mentioned FireFox because I tried installing FireFox Legacy on my same 2008 MacBook and it won't even open and run correctly...just defaults to a frozen homepage every time so back to PowerFox which just works. I just finished watching online video from NHK world and logging into iCloud, both no issues at all.

Thanks again to the author of this browser, it's great for our older systems.....makes them massively usable again.

:)

BTW, extensions are hidden by default after installation (Mozilla design I believe). You can add them back to the toolbar or hamburger menu by right clicking on the navigation bar and choosing customize.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip, worked perfect!
