Unfortunately the repair tool is missing on the iPad 2.

Apparantly, ipads younger than Air1, the repair tool is not available due to 'performance' issues. There is no mention of this on the AppStore, and this feature (which was the highlight of the keynote at the October 14 apple event) was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

Hey for £2.99 ($4.99 USD) it's a great app.....The rest of the features look cool, but think Pixelmator should make the restrictions on older ipads more obvious in the store. :(

Oh! Thanks, didn't know that lol.
On that topic, the latest Adonit Jot Touch stylus is insanely nice. Some types of work it sees more use than my wacom at home. In some apps the styluses even have decent Palm rejection. (Not many though)

Between Procreate and Pixelmator the iPad is getting pretty damn handy.

Are you sure the decimal is in the right place? Wow.

Bargain ay!!!

Pixelmator replaced Photoshop for me many moons ago. It's like what Photoshop USED to be before it became bloated... but updated to the year 2014. VERY smooth and the price means you can use it without taking out a mortgage.

This is exactly why I don't understand people saying iPads aren't productive.

It's news, not an advertisement.

Are news stories really advertising in disguise?

Pixelmator is one of the top Mac apps so it's release on iOS is pretty big news. Even Apple gave valuable time to let their developers demo the app at the recent keynote.

Agreed... it's an important app. The ads are usually pretty darn obvious. What was that rubbish todo list app that we saw promoted on here? A MR dude coded it and the mods spent 6 month calling it the best app ever. Seriously, it was ugly and Apple already has calendar reminders...

I'd buy it and not use it just in order to help fund an Adobe antidote.

Yeah sadly the days of Apple/Adobe being best mates are...

If it is a promotion it will be clearly stated in the article.

That's actually pretty interesting. I've been wondering lately if one day I'd consider doing all my post processing on an iPad (an iPad Pro 12.9" if that ever happens). The price for both the iPad and Mac version is nice. The iCloud and Handoff features are pretty cool too. I'm not a heavy editor. Mostly minor repair and enhancement/conversion stuff. Ap and Nik more than meet my needs but of course I wonder how long they will be there for me.

I'm assuming the Mac version is standalone and doesn't operate as a plugin to Ap or Lr?

Do any Pixelmator users consider it as close to a pro tool from a results / useability standpoint?

Last question that I might have missed on the site. Does it handle RAW data or just jpg, tiff, psd, etc...?

Bewarned. There are some features missing on older that Air iPads. For instance the repair tool.

Would have been nice if the developer mentioned this in the App description.

Tempted to give it a one star review just for that omission in the description. :p

Used it on my iPad mini (retina) and it worked great - just like in the keynote. Pretty impressive app.

Thanks. You just saved me $4.99 until I get a newer iPad. Currently on 4th gen.

That's not true. I have a 4th generation and just used the repair tool. I haven't found anything in the described tools that's missing. I can't say that's the case for older than 4th generation, but your statement about older than Air missing features is not correct. It runs pretty smooth as well.

That being said, it's an ok app. All of the comparisons to Photoshop are rather humorous. Neither this OR the desktop version are anywhere close to photoshop. I use both, but let's get real... still a different league. Those who claim otherwise, obviously haven't much experience in photoshop.

I bought Pixelmator a few versions ago and love how the developers have supported it, and constantly making it better and better, without gouging us for fees every time. That alone makes me glad I'm supporting the developers. They will eventually catch up to photoshop and surpass it I believe, but that day certainly isn't here yet.

Regarding the iPad version, it's a decent app, bargain price, stable, useful for basic editing, etc. but there are loads of apps that do as much and even more.

I will enjoy playing with it and trying out the continuity handoff stuff (which should be very cool) but my go-to photo edit apps for the iPad are still Snapseed, Handy Photo, Leonardo, and Laminar Pro.

Pixelmator on the Mac is a great program. I expect the iPad version won't run on my 1st gen iPad, but I don't see myself sitting around editing photos on a tablet anyway.

I'm on an iPad 4. The repair tool works fine.

You can set Pixelmator as an external editor for Aperture under Aperture preferences. Works a treat, you can then alt click any image in Aperture and select edit in...

This is a "must buy" for anyone trying to rid them selves of PS. I personally have started only using Pixelmator and Inkscape to ween myself off Adobe subscription models.

Cloud subscriptions maybe the future but I think it might be more so for businesses rather then your everyday customer..unless your forced into it with MS and Adobe products.

Awesome. Thanks for the info Donka. So that's basically the way Photoshop works with Ap then? So, am I correct in saying that after you're done in Pixelmator you have to save the file and then import back into Ap?

Pixelmator showing up in iCloud Storage on my iPhone

I noticed that Pixelmator is showing up in Settings --> iCloud --> Storage --> Manage Storage on my iPhone. I'm sure the iCloud storage doesn't differentiate between iPhone and iPad apps, but here's hoping for a universal app that I can run on my iPhone when in a pinch. I have the desktop version of Pixelmator but do not have the iPad app. I guess I must've saved some files in iCloud from the desktop app at some point -- although I don't recall doing so.

Instant buy...especially at that price.

Are you sure the decimal is in the right place? Wow.

Introductory price :)

Well ios apps are typically cheaper, and the OSX version of pixelmator isn't that expensive. You guys are easily excited though. The iPad has seen some solid editing apps prior to this one, but they don't seem to get many reviews. Look up Procreate, then look up the number of reviews compared to some of the photo apps for the iphone. You could do the same with photoshop touch. The number of reviews is pretty underwhelming in each case.

Bargain ay!!!

They use a lot of Mac specific libraries and set up shop in a relatively low cost country.

Does this have selection areas for boosting contrast/sat/brightnees like Snapseed?

Accessible from the extension?

App description notes clearly that some features lile 'repair' require iPad 4.
