I am tired of the whiners here. Apple has hitched themselves to the PowerPC and IBM controls the production of it. Get use to it.

yes, it would be nice for Apple to have the fastest system out there. But Intel will always be able to one up IBM. Its called market volume.

I would say that 80% of the users here will find that a 2.5 or 2.6 dualie to be fast enough for them.

I'm higher than a kite right now and I don't think a fx5200 is the same as a geforce4Ti. Feeling goooood.

So, I just read this entire thread for about 5 minutes, and here's the stuff on which we seem to agree:

* Apple will be releasing updated (rev. B) PowerMacs in the near future.

G5 Rev. B's have been shipping since March, these new G5's are in some cases, speed bumps and different hard drive or video card configurations.

That is if the rumours are true...

I can GUARANTEE, however, that all our questions will be answered within the next 3 weeks. :p
And then we will have a new set of questions.

You would? 80%?

Well, why didn't you say so earlier?

CASED CLOSED!

This had better not be true. If apple still used that hunk of junk known as the GeForce FX 5200 1 year later, a $75 video card, in a $2000+ computer it would just be disgraceful.

Ya, the 5200 can't even hold a candle to the old 4200. Its just a joke.

Looking at specs I see they are about the same clockspeed, have about same memory bandwidth (10GB/sec) and I assumed the FX had more texture units than the Ti.

Can you find some comparison benches on the two? I'd be curious how they stacked up - I'm not as familiar w/ the 5200 as I am the 4Ti.

3. stop whining. seeing as a lot of you who are whining probably aren't in the market for a brand new mac anyway, i don't see what you're complaining for. furthermore, i'd say that 90% of people who have the high-end g5 probably only use it for web browsing and IMing 99% of the time.

No but their kids do. But really most people buy a dual g5 with work in mind. In my fathers case editing video. The average home user does not even know what megahertz means...

Scoff if you want.

I remember an article many years ago that showed that only 20% of the capabilities of hardware and software.

What i say to those that don't think Apple is living up to the market or capabilities, then go and start up your own company.

go to inside mac games, barefeats or a eshop benches. the problem is as soon as resolution is turned up on fx5200 frames drop in a hurry, better videocards(4Titanium) hold the frames at higher resolutions. fx5200 is garbage and has no place in a computer the price of Powermac. why do you think apple has so much money in the bank? selling garbage at cadillac prices like their 5200.

:'(

gee..77 positives, 366 negatives. Apple is doing a 500-600mhz speed increase, about the highest speed bump ever probably, and 77 positives and 366 negatives. There is still about 3 months left before 3ghz needs to happen. crybabies.

These are the same people wishing Ford would come out with something bigger than the Expedition.

New Displays

Did you see the article posted this evening on Thinksecret about new displays. If their info is accurate, bye-bye ADC. The new stand looks to be very adjustable.

Go take a look.

Like I have said before I will be happy with whatever Apple release, I hope if they do decide to go to 2.5ghz or 2.6ghz they at least have one model above 2.0ghz as well. I nice midrange G5 is what I am looking for, it also getting sad when Apple laptops ship with better graphics cards then what is in the current G5, the nvidia chips are a joke now, Apple needs the 9600 on the base model! If Apple expects $2000 for a computer they better put in a better video card, a 9800 across the board would be nice, Apple is supposed to be the king of graphics they need to stop crippling that advantage.

Thanks, though i have adc and like it adc is killing the video card market for macs. maybe it will be much easier to stay with the video card industry now that they wont have to make special cards for apple.

The only reason I give this my Official YUK! stamp is for the fact that this site puts out new G5 predictions almost daily it seems, and speculation becomes rabid, and not for the fact that G5s have not been updated yet. I am waiting too. :(

True, But a lot of the PC cards only have one Digital out DVI+VGA. I think that would be a step backwards if we went from having cards with two digital ports to one. I need the option of 2 digital displays.

Wow two 30-inch displays would certainly be amazing. 60-inces of pure digital interface balancing ever so dangerously on typical 50-inch desks. :)
