bye bye adc?

I would like to know what is going on with the ADC. While I agree, it would be nice to not have a proprietary connector, what about my 22" and 23" Apple flat panels that have an ADC connector! Sure, I can buy an adapter now, but they tend to get lost, blah blah. That was my one concern about buying the older displays. At least they will be going with what the rest of the computing industry is using.

How in the hell did you get anything done before last September when the dual G5 2.0s were relelased?!? You must have at least doubled your income with twice the speed...

I'm getting sick of this "no one needs the speed" argument. A lot of people need the speed. Just because you play games and check your email doesn't mean everyone else does. Personally I do realtime audio processing, and my Powerbook BARELY gets it done. I really need a G5 so I won't be so limited all the time. Video processing is even more intensive than audio... so I don't doubt a faster machine will make him more money.

Okay so are we expecting to see an update tomorrow? Or was this whole fiasco for naught?

in my opinion too many things point to this week. I think we will see updates, my hope is that apple makes up for it. If I get a 5200 gfx card, I better be able to BTO the 9600XT, and I want more HD space.... something to make it worth it.

WE need HD's

The G5 is great and all, but where is the storage steve? Internal storage is still needed, with faster speeds and hardware RAID systems. We need more space for HD's, and don't just stop at 4 try 6. I know i squeezed 5 into my old sawtooth, which is holding me over till a G5 that has enought storage for my needs. AS for the DVI vs. ADC, i think its for the better. I'm kinda glad i missed the whole ADC phase. VGA to DVI and thats all i need.

PLEASE NOTE: if you customize a G5 today thay are all 7-10 bus days (even stock is the same - that is odd)

BUT.. IF YOU ADD a 9800pro card the wait jumps to 5-7 weeks. NOW THAT IS REALLY ODD. Makes me believe the delay is due to geting the x800 card from ATI.... see glass half full - a much better way to live.

this was already the case since one week as reported by www.hardmac.com

nice piece of info

this is supporting the fact that Apple will not request GPU manufacturer (ATI or Nvidia) to do special Mac edition with ADC connectors...this will also reduce the cost...
this is also pointing out to a wish that all mac users have since long time...being able to use the last released graphic card.. and not being obliged to either wait for a Mac edition, or flashing a PC GC.

Though it does mean a drastic shift from Steve Jobs simplicity plan, but the added bricks and wires will allow users to have access to newer video card much faster and less expensive.
All they need to do is sell molded cables containing all the necessary wires, with breakouts on each end long enough to reach wherever they need to plug into. You still get DVI, power, Firewire, audio, USB, or whatever else you want inside, but wrapped together -- a single cable from computer to display, what's so hard about that?

motion

Recommended system
Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5
2GB of RAM or more
Mac OS X v10.3.3 or later
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card or better

These are the reqs for Motion...

guys, don't be stupid, what ThinkSecret is saying is pretty much made up,a t least on the graphic cards....

How in the world is Apple going to release their top machines and not being able to run their software.. I just don't buy it.

Those are the most ridiculous numbers I've ever seen for a yearly update. Rumour or not, they're ridiculous numbers for anybody to be throwing around.

So let me get this straight, after an entire year, Apple is still including an Nvidia 5200 in their systems? Why? Its a cheap video card that you can pick up for cheap in any computer store. The mouse probably costs more than the video card.
I agree-and I own one myself. The GeForce 6800/X800 could be offered for the G5 but probably in a later update.

VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD if the Appleinsider forecast will be confirmed by the fact. It is too small speed bump for the CPU ( Intel is going to release a 3.6 Ghz CPU) and a low level graphic card
Also-Intel's releasing the PCI Express 915/925 soon for PC's-Apple currently uses PCI-X (which is different from PCI Express), and I suspect, say if Apple were to use PCI Express in a G5 (perhaps next year)-PCI Express x16 would be used for graphics cards.

Apple Store UK site is down

Yup, at least one store is down. Now, it could be because doing the Wednesday refresh of the refurb store, but I don't recall the site going down for that. Hopefully it's what we think it is.

The UK Apple store is down for update, the European Stores normally go down before the USA. This could be the new G5's or possibly for the new Airport Express that has not yet made it to the UK online store. I expect the new G5's are coming, otherwise they would have updated the UK store previously. Clearly Apple are being lazy and can't be bothered to update the International stores twice in one week.

I can see my work rate go down as a click refresh every 10 minutes to see if the store is back up.

Hey nuckinfutz, are you buying if the new G5's are released or just very keen to get the news ASAP ?

LOL I wish. I have freakin insomnia. My apt is on the 3rd floor and this time of the year in Seattle Washington can get humid at night. I need cool air...and then new Powermacs ;)

[edit] hey do they normally take this long to add something small like Airport Express to the UK store?

Sorry about the insomnia, no the UK store does not usually take this long to update the store, especially when the Apple UK Homepage announces the new Airport Express and the buy now link on the data page only goes to the store, but product is not listed. This is why I think the G5's are coming today, Apple has decided that it is not worth updating the UK store twice in one week.

Well I guess that we will find out soon.

Hi,

the german store is down as well. This is very very early for the 3.00pm updates. Maybe its only Airport Extreme.

No I don't think it is, it is very common for the UK store to go down at about 12.00 UK time and come back up anytime between 1.00 and 3.00 when product line is updated. Next sign will be for the US store to go down sometime in the next hour.

Thats interesting - as I recall the german store was normally down at 2pm and up around 3pm. Maybe different this time. I am not always following the exact events.

dammit why won't the US store go down! If it does go down I'm getting back up in two hrs. We already have the Aex listed so if the US goes offline it's for new hardware.
