gee..77 positives, 366 negatives. Apple is doing a 500-600mhz speed increase, about the highest speed bump ever probably, and 77 positives and 366 negatives. There is still about 3 months left before 3ghz needs to happen. crybabies.

Try to forget the MHz thing... it means nothing. It's a standard ~30% increase speed bump and nothing more.

Frankly, I can believe the CPU speed topping out at 2.5/2.6, but the specs of the machines (ram, GPU, and CPU Ghz gap between low and high) seem completely made up.

Would be nice to see more HD slots!

Did you see the article posted this evening on Thinksecret about new displays. If their info is accurate, bye-bye ADC. The new stand looks to be very adjustable.

Go take a look.

Woah
Cool

And for a minute there I thought the Apple Developer Connection was being done away with. I was thinking "what does this have to do with monitors?" and "why on earth would they do that?" And then I remembered :)

A dual 2.5GHz will thoroughly whoop any PC on the market right now. Look at what has happened in the past year for AMD and Intel.

Intel: "She just won't run any hotter, sir! She's gonna blow!" (3.0 - 3.4GHz)

AMD: "Hey, we got socket 939, not 940!"
Consumer: "Isn't 939 smaller than 940? I'm not buying that!!!" (2.2 - 2.4GHz)

Apple is in good shape with a 25% increase in speed. The only problem I have is the CONSIDERABLE difference between the middle and high end configs. 2.0 - 2.5????? What is this crap????????????

THose prices better be good.

HA! You sound like a normal Mac rumor monger. I think, should a poll be taken, that a lot of people on these boards watch the rumor sites religiously.

That would be VERY good news for Mac users, this ADC crap has been hurting Mac users for a long time.

Though it does mean a drastic shift from Steve Jobs simplicity plan, but the added bricks and wires will allow users to have access to newer video card much faster and less expensive.

The video card people have been saying they've been shooting for price parity with PC cards, dropping ADC should help quite a bit in finally making this a reality.

Though it is doubtful that we'll ever have price parity due to the number of cards that are shipped to retailers, the bigger volume of PC cards will probably keep those cards a bit less than the Mac version.

Indeed. I find it utterly ridiculous that in order to use an Apple display with my powerbook, I'd have to buy a $150 mini DVi to ADC adapter when it comes with a mini DV to standard DVI adapter. Boo to proprietary stupidity.

Uhm existence of 2.5 Ghz and great disparity over 2.0 Ghz would certainly indicate 3.0 ghz to be added to product line at some later stage. I really don't see much difference between 2.2 and 2.4 and 2.6 if you ask me.
Dual 2.0 ,2.5,3.0 makes much more sense. Apple has probably decided to release all they ve got at this point and add magical 3.0 maybe sometime in September.

Then again who knows. Maybe all these rumors are just Apple playing tricks on us in order to create more hype before WWDC.

ARGHHHHH!!!!! NEW DISPLAYS!!!!

New ThinkSecret Rumors! Sure better than the PM rumors from earlier!

This had better not be true. If apple still used that hunk of junk known as the GeForce FX 5200 1 year later, a $75 video card, in a $2000+ computer it would just be disgraceful.

I agree. If IBM and Apple can't keep up with the Wintel world when it comes to CPU Ghz, Apple should at the very least always make available to its customers the latest and greatest video cards on the market (i.e. X800, 6800). Personally, I don't know what's holding Apple back on this front. Any number of third-party manufacturers could produce ATI or nVidia solutions for Apple. Heck, nVidia doesn't even make end-user cards at all, just the chipsets. I doubt the conversion to Mac OS is that complicated.

I will say, however, that I'm pleased to see the Mobility 9700 in the PB.

My prediction for Rev.B G5 is 9600 standard, 9800 Pro standard on high-spec PM, 9800 Pro Mac SE CTO.

I'd love to see a PCI-X X800 CTO on the high end!

THE 2.5 AIN'T REAL.

I've been itching to upgrade from my 700MHz iBook to a G5, and had planned to do it with this revision. I would have purchased probably the middle dual processor (or lowest end one). However, if the rumors are true and Apple uses processors that are a year old on all but the highest-end machine, there is no way that I'm going to buy. I'll wait another 6 months or a year, thank you.

I can not wait any longer, I have to buy when they are updated but I'm choosing not to believe these rumors. The stats in this article just don't seem plausible, especially the prices they have listed that Apple will sell the old models for. I'm getting ready to be very surprised.

Do you edit video? I render video that takes a overnight trip at least once per week. A 3giger would cut that down big time.. and save me a lot of money.

How in the hell did you get anything done before last September when the dual G5 2.0s were relelased?!? You must have at least doubled your income with twice the speed...

The only reason I give this my Official YUK! stamp is for the fact that this site puts out new G5 predictions almost daily it seems, and speculation becomes rabid, and not for the fact that G5s have not been updated yet. I am waiting too. :(

This is a rumors site and if you have been following it for a while, you will have noticed there have not been many powermac rumors until this week. Arn does a good job compared to some other rumor sites, waiting until he can verify or post if from a reliable source.

In this case, Think Secret was the source and normally they are pretty good about their rumors. Of course, like palm reading, there is some leway. They did say the powermacs could be delayed until later in the week.

Keep reading and enjoy the rumors - just don't live your life by them!

Well not quite, but darn close.
Having 3 helps too. Now I just need one more with at least Dual 3 GHz.

Do you really believe that 90% of people w/high end G5s only use it for surfing and IM?

If you don't, why would you take the time to type all of this out?

uhhh, I believe I mentioned in that same post that I run a dual 867mhz g4. Read the whole article before you make yourself look dumb next time :/

I'm still hoping for a 3.0 GHz PM at WWDC, just for the sake of telling my PC friends that a Mac is so outdoing their PC! :D

Man, all of these lovely rumors are gonna get me 6502 status before WWDC! I'm less than 50 posts away from it! :D Come on, avatar! (now I gotta find a good one... hmmm....)

edit: just checked, and I only need 25 posts!!! :D
