Mine was custom and it was ordered in August, arrived today.

I added RAM, Bluetooth, Airport, but did not upgrade video card.

Maybe that is the critical component that is holding up orders.

is the bluetooth module internal? i was going to call and have them add that to it, i mean est ship date of 10/24 its not even close to being made, but i dont want to risk holding it up any more than i have to. but all the ones at apple store seem to be ones that plug into the usb port.

If you order bluetooth on a cto (Like I did) the bluetooth module is internal on the motherboard...and cannot be added after production. It has to do with the aluminium case there is an antenna that ports to the back tower case to get the signal out of the box. You can use a usb dongle.. but I wanted to keep in clean and have it integrated... I would say for me it was worth the wait... .but then I again my 2.0 came last week.....:) they were three days early in relation to the second est. ship date I don't think bluetooth will hold up your order:)

Am having problems with Safari crashing on the G5.

Explorer seems fine. Most of the other programs also seem excellent. Digital Performer absolutely screams!

Lemme know if you know anything about the Safari crashing.

Thanks for asking -

Mostly when I type something into a search box - it's happened at tons of sites so it's probably something messed up with the autocomplete feature...

I happened to call my local apple store at Woodfield today to see if they had any Duals in ... it just so happened they had 2, so they held one for me while I drove like a maniac to get there. I'm now posting on my new Dual G5 and 17inch Apple Display .... its sweet :)

Let us know if you have any crashies...

The other program that crashes is iChat- crashes immediately on launch.

you won't believe this, when something crashes on my mac i just move the app or i change the apps icon in the dock and it works fine, try it and let's see what happens:cool:

1 gig ram

i found them at macwarehouse kingston for 269.95 and poweruser for 199.95 in stock, and at page computers on the nextag search the kingston was much cheaper then macwarehouse...i think 249. and they are in stock. My apple store didn't have any in stock.

i ordered mine on aug 22, and it arrived today but i had to send it back because i bought one at the store last night. I can't imagine why people haven't gotten them for such old orders..oh well..

512 ram is 139.95 for kingston at macwarehouse
and 119.95 for power user..

Apple charges 1300 bucks for 2 gigs..and you don't even know where it comes from...I guess that's how they make the money cause they are giving the computers away...I remember paying 4000 bucks for an se-30 with a 7 inch b/w monitor with an 80 meg hd and 6 megs of ram...

this machine would be worth 100,000 buck 13 years ago

poweruser ram

the quality is good. Kingston is better as you can tell by the price but i have had poweruser ram and never had a problem with it..check macwarehouse, cdw, and pagecomputers had kingston 1 gig in stock for under 250
the Kingston 1 gig is 269 at macwarhouse..i made a typo:eek:

just make sure its for the dual.

clicking HD problem

i had the clicking hardrive problem. Is and when i removed my USB cable it stopped..did anyone else have that problem...sounded like a ticking of a clock...turned out it was my epson 825 printer after some experimenting. turned it on and it clicked, and then turned it off and the clicking was gone in a few seconds...hooked up my HP 5650 and no more clicking...

thought i had a bad HD for a minute there...

no, the startup noise is the same, but I've noticed as it starts up the main fans rev really fast for like a second (maybe to clear out any dust?) and then winds down (which kinda sounds like an engine rev)... i'm guessing that's what he heard on the phone.

Yes, that's what I heard and why I called it a startup noise instead of startup sound.

BTW. Re 1GB RAM. Are you sure that the prices you quoted for a single 1GB RAM module and not 1GB kit (2x512MB)? The prices seem more for kit RAM than single sticks. Much RAM is sold in "kit" form so that overclockers in the PC world have an easier time adjusting the timings for dual channel RAM.

If that is the case, may I suggest Corsair RAM? (Not the new Pro stuff though unless you like blinking lights.)

Here is some more G5 "porn":

That G5 is not mine, but the cat is. He's since dumped me and my G4 notebook for a cute girl and her 2x2G5.

Picked on up

After seeing that someone else on this board picked up a Dual G5 from the Apple Store at Woodfield Mall, I decided to do the same, since the stock model I ordered on 8/1 was still showing a ship date of 'on or before 10/24'.

My first impressions are that it is very fast (although I was previously using a 466MHz G4), that it is very quiet (although the HDs in my old machine were rather noisy), and that is very heavy (at least while carrying one up two flights of stairs). Even when the fans blow, it's still quieter (or at least more pleasing) than the whines coming from my old G4.

To anyone in the Chicagoland area who is waiting for a non-custom dual that they ordered on-line many moons ago, I would recommend calling the Woodfield or Michigan Ave. stores to reserve one (assuming they still have some left) and cancelling your on-line order. However, they will only hold one for the duration of the day, so you've got to be able to get to the store that day.

Soon.. I hope

After reading of all the delays, when I ordered my G5 2.0Ghz on 9/18/03 I wasn't surprised to see 'shipping on or before 10/21/03' appear on the order status.

I WAS rather disappointed to see the date change to 10/27/03 at the beginning of this week.

I was totally startled to see 'Shipped 9/24/03' when I checked just now! It should be here tomorrow.

Too bad that I ordered mine (std dual config) on 9/15/03 (I got the same 10/21/03 ship date) and it still hasn't shipped. The Apple Store at the Mall of America had several in stock, but I can't get the Apple Developer Connection discount there. Rawr. It hopefully should show up soon, especially because the Apple Store now lists it as a 7-10 day wait on new orders. Oh, and the Shipping Method on my order has changed from 'Priority Overnight' to 'Two Day' to 'Bestway' whatever that means.

Still waiting...
