actually sir YOUR AN IDIOT you litterally believe that the product "Apple as said that the only problem is with the way that the signal is displayed"????

if you believe this then your a complete moron, I'm assuming you believed "your holding it wrong" and "its a non-issue" as well... and you probably believe that the software display fix is coming...

listen the fact is, apple is saying this because they want to dampen the serious issue... its not how its being distplayed, the first 3 phones use the same software to calculate the issue, 3gs and 4 same OS the 4 loses signal.. enough said,

AGAIN IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS ISSUE PROVE IT WE HAVE A MILLION VIDEOS SHOWING IT HAPPEN AND NONE SHOWING ITS WORKING INDOORS AND OUTDOORS IN THE DEATH GRIP POSSISION!!!!

read it again i am saying there is an issues and that people that keep saying there isn't are idiots.

But Apple is trying to do the re-call, only they are using iPhones 4 to do so and currently they have no signal.

Hard to say what will happen now with so many conflicting reports from users. Maybe some percentage of the phones are just bad. I think it has a lot to do with signal strength in the user's area too. We'll have to see. I doubt there will be a recall though.

Am I the only person with the phone that does not have any issues. I get way better reception with this phone then the past 3 iPhones and have not dropped any calls. I got the morning it came out.

Mine is the same.My phone does drop two bars when I place my finger over the contact, but this has not resulted in any issues for me. I haven't dropped calls or lost data speeds.

I love the new iPhone 4, but there is a serious signal loss issue. A software update is not going to solve the problem at all. Yes there is probably a software bug that is causing the bars to be displayed incorrectly however I can cause a call to fail at any time just by the way I hold it.

The thing is, as soon as I put a bumper on the phone it works perfect and has no problems. I'm very satisfied with the phone when a bumper is included.

The right thing for Apple to do is to give away free bumpers with every iPhone 4 purchase. There is no way those bumpers cost more then a few dollars to manufacture.

The bigger problem though is that by giving away bumpers it kills the very lucrative 3rd party case business and also kills the iPhone dock which does not work with the bumper.

Definitely a PR disaster, whether a problem exists or not. Half the headlines on Finance Yahoo are about this. They better react, and fast...

I'm an Apple product user since 1992, the day I retired from IBM I bought my first Mac, never had a better computing experience with anything else.

I love my iPhone 3GS, as does my wife. We're waiting for the WHITE iPhone4 to come out.

To me this signal issue is moot. I have learned from having my iPhone 3GS that I NEED a case. I'm an everyday guy and carry my phone in the pocket I keep my keys in. So in a year the back of the phone has gotten scratched up, INCLUDING the lens of the camera. I use screen protector film and my screen is immaculate. So for me getting a new iPhone 4 is doable because I PLAN ON BUYING A CASE. That case will cover the antenna (or I'm not buying it) and give better protection to the back (and camera/flash). Problem solved...

Lots of Apple Haters here - have your fun. Anyone seriously contemplating buying an iPhone 4, just get a case that covers the antenna...
Problem solved.

Why be part of the problem,
Be part of the SOLUTION.

Another post by someone who doesn't even own the damm phone.
Come on dude, bully for you that your an apple supporter, so are most of us!

Getting a new iphone for YOU is doable, well good luck man, hope you don't have signal issues cuZ youll be back screaming like the rest of us!

have a great day!

Toyota-style disaster, yeah right. No one's lives are in danger, its just a reception issue, people go crazy when they find something wrong with Apple's products. It may be Apple's fault, but they are working on a fix, and I am sure that they will try to get it all worked out.

How are they going to fix a hardware problem like this in software. Oh yea thats right, change the "bars" display. *rolls eyes*

Molehill, Making, Mountain.

Apple have already said they are happy to take back your undamaged iPhone 4 and you will get a full refund. I urge all people not happy with it to take it back and then maybe we will see all this whining and foolery stop.

Anyway, even if they recalled the phone I will not be taking mine back. I am more than happy with it.

The problem is that a lot of the people whining about this don't have an iPhone 4 and never seem to consider returning it if they do. My conclusion is that 99% of these people are haters or plants.

If you have signal issues Apple has already issued a recall, return the phone for a full refund and move on with your life.

Apple won't recall the iPhone; they'll just make a discrete cosmetic change.

They never made a recall when the 20" iMacs of the previous generation had awful backlight problems. Instead, they just deleted and locked threads, then made the changes after an extended period of time.

As Ferris Bueller would say, these guys are so tight that if you stuck a lump of coal up their butt, they'd shape it into a diamond. An "iDiamond" no doubt.

You're*. You should learn the language before you criticize someone.

dyslexic.

As you could tell from a few grammatical errors in my previous post.
that does not make me an IDIOT. makes me SPECIAL :)

The guy i was commenting about's views are idiotic

Probably why all other phones aren't wrapped in such magical antennas. Rather they are internal or stubs on top or back.
In some of the marketing material the iPhone is held in a way that is touching the problem spot. Which is hard o avoid with their amazing new design.

I was waiting to get one, but my view of it has been hurt enough to avoid it until i see a solution.

The solution is a case. To not have this phone in a case is plain retarded, even if the antenna issue didn't exist.

Return the phone. End of discussion.

Is there some particular reason why you keep repeating yourself in post after post? Are you so insecure in your reasoning that you feel you have to repeat often and loudly to try and drown out anyone who disagrees with you?

3 points:
1) there will not be a recall. It's not a safety issue, and a huge number of buyers are happy with their purchase.
2) I'm tired of the "it doesn't work as a phone" comments. Stop trolling. Yes, there is a real issue, and it's not software-based. But it does work as a phone under any of the following situations: you don't hold it that way (and many people don't, without any conscious effort); you use a case (and honestly, probably 3/4 of iPhone 3G/3GS that I see have cases anyway); you're in a high coverage area.
3) in my 7 years on this forum, I've never seen people behave as badly as with this issue. The venom and personal attacks are disgusting and by forum rules should have about half the posters in this thread banned by now. People, it's a phone. How about a rational discussion without the flaming?

Ok. ..this issue has been going on now for a while....WHERE ARE THE MASSES OF PEOPLE LINING UP TO RETURN THEIR PHONES?

Oh...right...because they aren't. If they were then everyone who analyzes these things would know and report it.

People aren't returning them because for the VAST majority of people this is a NON-ISSUE.

For a minority, albeit a very VOCAL minority it is a problem, yet they seemingly have found themselves incapable of returning it.

Why are people holding on to this phone if it sucks so bad?

This is a valid point. I understand that people want to keep the phone and hope Apple does something - but if it is a hardware fix that is needed - it won't happen anytime soon.

Did they know beforehand?

I just wonder if Apple knew of the issues beforehand ... I mean, the bumpers came out simultaneously. When have they released something that specific (covers the antenna only, really) ever? Has apple ever even made an iPhone case of any sort???

That said, I'm still upgrading ... I mean, I've used an iPhone since Day 1 and it's been in a case since there was one to buy. I can't imagine not using a case with an iPhone, especially the iPhone 4 which has even more glass. I've iDropKick'd (the process of dropping and simultaneously kicking one's iPhone while walking) on multiple occasions and my Slider hardshell case has protected it gloriously.

Now I'm concerned that the 3 week wait time for an iPhone 4 will be somehow extended to who-knows-when because of the Consumer Reports review. We will see ....

I still think this has something to do with tower freq switching.

When the signal is full strength at my house or my office I can't get the signal to drop...even if I put my hands on it exactly like all the videos.

However, if I am at the gym with a full signal, and I put my hands on the phone exactly like all the videos, the signal drops down.

The only possible difference could be the freq my phone is currently connecting to the tower on.

The problem is, we can no longer see what band we are on.
850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

What hacks me off, is no body is talking about how this phone gets a signal in places a 3GS never did, or in my case...not a single dropped call.

I couldn't reproduce the reception problem at all yesterday. Had my iPhone 4 for 3 weeks and nary a problem.
Besides it's a freaking phone not a heart pacer.

You know what will be real funny...

All you people hoping for recall and it turns out to be a software issue on how the iPhone calibrates a signal and you end up getting nothing. LMAO ROTFL:D

"This is a non-issue. You're holding it wrong!" :D

I couldn't believe that even Steve Jobs could be so arrogant as to dismiss, out of hand as it were, the legitimate complaints about the iPhone signal attenuation problem.

They handled this badly, however this is vintage Apple customer relations.

Send back your iPhones by the millions and let Steve show you how to hold 'em right.
