I can understand why people who are adversely effected by this issue are upset and calling for a recall, but honesty, I have not had a problem with the phone. I read about the reception issue the night before the launch and have tried to duplicate the problem many, many times in various places throughout the Twin Cities area and I have NOT been able to reduce my signal strength by holding the phone the "wrong way."

This is probably what is taking Apple so long to respond - this issue is sporadic. It's certainly widespread, but by no means does it effect 100% of iPhone 4s out there.

I just wanted to share my experiences and opinion about this issue and I hope those who ARE experiencing problems get a resolution quickly from Apple.

Every single iPHone is the same!

Just because you have a stronger signal where you live doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Do you think your antenna is somehow different from everyone elses? lol

I can reproduce signal reduction on every since device I own when I touch the antenna.

So I don't see what the fuss is all about.

I would like to know how you do that, because 99 percent of phones have their antenna inside the case and untouchable without opening up the device.

It's Apple's own fault this is blowing up like it is. Back when the issue started to get big, if they had just opted to include a free bumper with every iPhone, they could've saved face.

But, no. They're letting it snowball. All they did was accuse people of holding it wrong, delete posts on their forums, dodge questions, and then offer up a lame fix in the form of a software cover-up.

That said, I do like the external antennae idea. I like having the option of having less plastic between the antennae and the case (granted it's more radiation). During the keynote, if Apple had presented the iPhone with the bumper, as if that's how it is supposed to be used, and then offered the user the option of removing the bumper when they place it in another case (to improve reception inside the case), then the story may have been different.

Molehill, Making, Mountain.

Apple have already said they are happy to take back your undamaged iPhone 4 and you will get a full refund. I urge all people not happy with it to take it back and then maybe we will see all this whining and foolery stop.

Anyway, even if they recalled the phone I will not be taking mine back. I am more than happy with it.

Stop Buying

As long as customer continue to buy the product, there will not be a call.

Ok, Apple, time to be grown-up and fix all of this, there is no choice now!

1. Acknowledge the problem. Denying it is just weird at this point.

2. Provide a quality tape fix-it kit to Apple stores, fix while 'u wait. Tape wouldn't detract from the looks.

3. Gift certificates for the trouble.

4. Jobs is just too close to his baby to acknowledge any flaws. Apple needs to separate the production people from the customer relations side.

5. Make these products here. That would be the real killer app and would put the Apple back in everyone's eyes once again.

Just wondering if people overseas are seeing this issue - all the noise is about AT&T and in the US - but I haven't been able to find an iphone 4 in the UK that can show the problem -
Is it somehow an AT&T thing? am I useless at holding the phone? Does it only affect some phones?

Just curious as to how far this spreads outside the US as I haven't seen/heard much noise about it over here in the UK. I would think it should affect all phones on all networks - anyone have any data??

Wait - are you asking if physically putting your finger over a certain spot on a phone is an AT&T thing??? Yep that's it...damn you AT&T! You got us again

This is so stupid I can't believe it. The media/blogs have gone completely overboard on this. I think its just the anti-Apple people thinking they've found a way to topple the success. The iPhone 4 is the best integrated phone ever made and if someone is too stupid to be able to figure out how to use it then they should return it. If they have an actual defective device, then they should have it replaced. I have used probably 20 different similar devices in the past and they ALL have idiosyncrasies and issues that you have to work with if you want to use the device. By the logic being used here, every Windows Mobile device ever made should be recalled because they all are incredibly unreliable.

Apple is lying to u$

Apple is obviously throwing a bunch of lies about the iPhone 4. First ignoring the issue altogether, then blaming software on the problems, then why not fix the software, it's been weeks since the launch and nothing happened.

They'd better recall all iPhone 4's, bumper won't do any good, it won't fit in my dock or speakers, I won't be removing that ugly piece of rubber to play music or put it in the dock every time.

RECALL!!!! :apple:

I'm an Apple product user since 1992, the day I retired from IBM I bought my first Mac, never had a better computing experience with anything else.

I love my iPhone 3GS, as does my wife. We're waiting for the WHITE iPhone4 to come out.

To me this signal issue is moot. I have learned from having my iPhone 3GS that I NEED a case. I'm an everyday guy and carry my phone in the pocket I keep my keys in. So in a year the back of the phone has gotten scratched up, INCLUDING the lens of the camera. I use screen protector film and my screen is immaculate. So for me getting a new iPhone 4 is doable because I PLAN ON BUYING A CASE. That case will cover the antenna (or I'm not buying it) and give better protection to the back (and camera/flash). Problem solved...

Lots of Apple Haters here - have your fun. Anyone seriously contemplating buying an iPhone 4, just get a case that covers the antenna...
Problem solved.

Why be part of the problem,
Be part of the SOLUTION.

Cue the usual crowd in this forum that will tell us there is 100% NOTHING WRONG with the phone.....

3.....2.....1........

I'm sure plenty of people have issues with the phone but mine and my wife's along with a coworker and 2 friends of mine DO NOT have any signal or reception issues how can this be explained or are we all just holding it right?

A full recall seems unlikely. It would be very difficult for Apple to come up with a replacement design, wouldn't it? They might opt to create a different look for next year's model, but I doubt they will give me a replacement phone.

I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't really become a huge issue in the media. I've seen reports on cnn.com, but they didn't make a big splash.

On the front page on the Drudgereport which get 30 million views a day

If they do a recall it will be a kick in the nuts for Apple, but this time next year it will be forgotten about by 99% of people.

The Apple haters will be loving this, the fanboys will be suicidal but maybe it’s a subliminal kick up the arse that Apple needs???

wow, i can't believe this could happen. i got my phone launch day. i could replicate the reception issue with the case off only in certain locations. i personally wouldn't use this phone without a case so it hasn't been an issue for me. my issue has been the sensor. anyway...i wonder how they let this happen? did the manufacturer miss a step in production or did the "testers" not test this in the real world without a case.

It's also so obvious they made those bumper cases because they realized a little late there was a problem.

NO THEY HAVEN'T

Consumer Reports, a very reputable consumer reviewer, stated there was an issue

It's fanboys like you who are confused.

Yeah same here, I'm holding out money ready with my 3G. My since installing iOS4 painfully slow sluggish snail like 3G. Thanks for that Apple as well!

Yeah the 128MB of RAM is really struggling with this OS. It's painful to load just about anything these days on it. Phone/contact book takes 10 seconds to load, e-mail gets stuck often, game apps take forever, even the camera takes 15 seconds to load.

Poor experience overall.

Yeah... it's necessary. Their reputation will be shot to hell if they don't. Sadly, I personally have a couple buddies who think nothing of all the problems and had to buy the phone.

I'm still holding out with a 3G, money ready but noooo way I'm buying the current crop of crap.

smart !!!

I am doing the same, but not so sure anymore I will indeed get another iPhone.

As a phone it is such an unbelievable POS, it is a joke. And we all now (some still hide it) that it's got nothing to do with AT&T. But now it's also become so slow that too is just a joke.

SJ has been too successful and he is losing his edge.
