Exactly. The phone has been out in the public less than 20 days.

People act like all the Apple engineers are doing is sitting in smoke filled rooms counting piles of money.

I guarantee every iPhone engineer (software or hardware) at Apple has not seen their family, their bed, or sunshine since June 23..

LOL just got a visual of a deschefled man in a lab coat wishing he never thought of the idea of an external antenna... LOL :D

How come there are not so many stories about the HTC Evo bugs, or the Droid Incredible bugs. Because they don't make as sensational press as iPhone 4 stories, that's why. Most people don't even know what an HTC Evo is... But who hasn't heard of the iPhone?

IT IS A DAMN PHONE. Stop freaking out.

because its not the top of the top, when you are number one people care about what happends if you mess up... nobody cares if 5th place at the PGA tour goes and lays 13 girls cheating on his wife.. WE CARE IF TIGER DOES IT!!... not HTC Droid or Evo.. they are expected to fail because they are 2nd... nobody cares about them they are not setting the curve... Apple has set the bar so high and this is their first time not clearing it.

No. it's really THAT simple. just return the ****ing phone if you're so unhappy with it and get one of those Android phones.

Seems to be a common mantra here.

Can you use the hundreds of dollars worth of apps and games purchased through iTunes on the Android? Will an android phone sync your music, notes, and ical via itunes? Many people here have had the iphone since it first came out. This isn't like trying to decide between a Razr and a pebl. The iphone has been integrated into many people's personal lives. It should be easy to understand that it is not as simple as just returning the phone and picking up an Android device.

On the news yesterday they interview some people asking if they would still buy an iPhone 4 even with the issues. They said yes. Why? The lady with two kid says "I'd just hold it different." And this was a report about the study yesterday. It may be a PR disaster to the Internet but the average consumer will move there hand up half an inch and get on with their life, or buy a bumper. I can't hold my 3G certain ways either I find pages not loading with 5 bars and once my hand leaves the bottom of the phone it loads. But for it is a nonissue, I was going to get a black bumper for my white phone for the contrast before this issue came out.

I think this is right. People who already own an iPhone are going to buy one no matter what. In terms of calls, the iPhone has always been an under-performer. So its just a bit worse now, but since they are already acclimated to putting up with it, who cares?

My hunch is it is more of an issue for new customers who finally threw in with Apple only to find the worst iPhone launch issues ever. They feel like schmucks and are wondering if it was worth it. Over time, since i am guessing no one bought the iPhone for a super-reliable phone anyhow, they will keep them.

You gotta be kidding...

A recall for that one 1/4 in. that's crazy! All Apple needs to do is attach an errata warning buyers about it, that's it. I like that guy at consumer report saying that "no other phone" is like that, ... ya it's the only phone with that design stupid! You can easily avoid the drop if you know about it, it's not a big deal. However if that helps slowing down sales so that it launches internationally without delay, I'm all for it :)

Fanboy, If I someone returns it, might have sold their old iPhone already, so they would be screwed. Its a major fail that we should have to return it. Why is Apple still selling this defective phone?
Because people are happy with it and if you are not you can return it

thought I was OK

Alot of people that are saying they dont have an issue are most likely looking at the bars.....which I did first....until I used a speed test app and boy, I had the issue. I couldnt even run the speedtest until I put my finger off of it. I still love my phone and currently have a case on it. no issue here anymore.

+1

MacRumors has officially become THE place for anti-Apple folk to come and bitch about Apple and throw around the "fanboy" word for fun.

How pathetic.

Actually, that would be Slashdot, but today you may have a point. :)

However, a check of the stock market shows Apple's stock hurting although the market in general (including Google, interesting enough) is having a relatively good day. Regardless of one's opinion of Consumer Reports, this evaluation and its echo effect have resonated with the public and, clearly, Apple has its work cut out for it to avoid making this even worse. And, yeah, it can get worse.

How many apps do you need to buy to get to 200 bucks? How many of those does one actually use? I just counted. I just have about 30 -- most were free. Of those i pretty much just use itunes and clock. Lol... My son plays angry birds...that being said, it is mostly being used as the kids game gadget while the DS recharges.

ChazUK talked about this. What are you going to say now?

I have a white iphone with no reception issues (well, it's in a case) and I am able to live my life care free again (until I get the bill) without checking on the development of this issue any further (until I refresh my browser). ;)

How many more articles will have to be posted before people start realizing that an issue does exist? Maybe not with them, but with enough to warranty a recall for many iPhone 4s.

There was less denial for the yellow tinting issue.

Prediction: No recall
Reason: All antennas attenuate when held.

The iPhone 4 more than most... And there may not be a "formal" recall, but I can tell you that there will be a constant stream of people going to Apple stores and getting their iPhones replaced.

Cue the usual crowd in this forum that will tell us there is 100% NOTHING WRONG with the phone.....

3.....2.....1........

Dude I've been waiting for that. I'm surprised in the first page of posts no one gas said it's completely normal. Lol at all the people that have said it's software based.

I'm guessing Apple will send everyone a free bumper.
Or possibly a more minimal version of the bumper... maybe clear.

Is it worse than the 3GS?

The reception for me has always sorta sucked. But it's not a big deal. I usually say "****in phone" and redial.
