Apple should NOT recall iPhone 4
Calls for an iPhone 4 recall are simply ridiculous. Apple has created an exceptionally good smartphone. Death Grip won't kill you. But the negative hype might kill Apple's share price for a few days -- at least until the fiscal Q3 earnings announcement on July 20

Sorry, But This Whole iPhone 4 Antenna Thing Is A Non-Issue And Will Blow Over

The bigger and more successful Apple gets, the easier it becomes to poke holes in the company. And the more fun people have beating up on Apple, and the more notoriety they get, etc

Consumer Reports' Brilliant PR Move: Trash The iPhone
Clearly, Consumer Reports has discovered Apple bashing, even when it is perhaps disingenuous, is great linkbait

None needed, the relevant information is the hundred fold signal strength drop when held normally. That is abnormal in the extreme when the internal radio itself is not being shielded. Again the iPhone 3GS lost merely a third of it's usable signal.

I agree in many situations the iPhone 4 radio is so good it can still get a good connection even with 1% of the signal, but in many situations it obviously can't. A design that squanders 99% of the available signal power when held normally is being called a defect - to argue it's not is possible but you aren't ever going to convince me.
Agreed. It is clearly a functional defect. You can't tell people to buy a case. The product should do what it is advertised to do. They deserve to be sued if they don't do something adequate to address this.

I suggest...

:apple: blames it on the Ack ack ca ack ca ALCOHOL, blame it on the Ack ack ca ack ca ALCOHOL... Seriously :apple: fan people the phone is jacked up. I took my day 1 phone back and got a new phone no questions asked and the proximity sensor is still jacked up on the new phone! The first person that tries to to me it's because my face is too fat I want to meet you face to face so I can knock your teeth out. Fat faces shouldn't make a phone malfunction!

:apple:
think you can get away with it?

Is this Steve Jobs? Are you hiding under the cover of "donny77"?

We won't be hearing from Steve soon - the Apple lawyers have taken away his email account. The lawyers went nuclear over the "you're holding it wrong" message.

It's odd, that now "you're holding it wrong" has become a common joke to describe some arrogant, out-of-touch comment. Not the legacy that Jobs wanted to leave, I suspect.

I hate to tell you, but the HTC EVO 4G is MUCH better than the iPhones that I had. Including the 3GS, even with iOS 4. And it's supposed to be running neck and neck with the iPhone 4 but with the addition of 4G. And it's so configurable when the iPhone is locked to Steve's configuration. I'm not bashing the iPhone because they are great for the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid). My daughter had a big learning curve with the EVO. Really, I could not believe how much more I like the EVO. And I DID like my iPhone. And yes, it's even been on this Forum (if you do a search) about the Android phones (as a whole) now outselling iPhones. It was bound to happen sooner or later, but I didn't expect this soon. It probably won't though, for this 1st quarter of the new iPhone sales (that is, if all the reports don't hurt them bad now).

I'm also very excited about Google's move to let anyone write Apps and make it VERY EASY to do so..... I couldn't do this on the iPhone without a LOT of classes and training. Check it out. http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/
I think this alone, is awesome. Now, Apple, your turn........
Dude, you are on some serious crack if you think the Android OS experience is comparable to IOS 4. Not even in the same galaxy...I don't think anyone, even droid lovers would claim that. And as far as apps go....please..you are making yourself look silly if you think the apps on the droid os are of the same quality as the iPhone OS.

Your trolling is getting ridiculous.

You hold the phone between your ear and shoulder when you are typing??

That's definitely.... unusual.

Not that unusual...

Apple deletes topics that makes them look bad? Steve Jobs doesn't believe in honesty or free speech? Say it isn't so! Then again, he does do all his manufacturing in Communist China where slave labor rates are also common, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised at his world views.

If placing something over it solves the issue, why don't they just issue some tiny piece plastic that covers the hole and makes it flush.. is that not more reasonable than giving away bumpers which increase the side of the phone, or doing a recall on an otherwise great product?

You don't get that? It is all people do on these forums, right? Its not like anyone is here to listen or be convinced, its just an infinite number of people shouting from their soapboxes...

AMEN. I wish more people would add actual objective comments that may bring real debate instead of ranting and raving with personal bias. What ever happened to intellectual discourse?

If he isnt saying it I will. I have both. I use Evo the other is a toy for my kids now. Only hangup is my 80G listening library...

How does "Just avoid holding it in that way" (actual quote) get altered into "you're holding it wrong" ? (misquote)

wasn't that conversation doctored?

You do know that a vast proportion of global manufacturing is done in China - Apple are not some unique anti-western company here.

Personally I do not see a recall as inevitable. A lot of people have not experienced an issue. For those that have they can just return the phone.

I dont understand the mentality of suing Apple either. If the product is defective then return it - not sure what damages you might be aiming for when suing. If people claim they missed an important call because the iPhone dropped out and that cost them money are they going to sue ATT for poor signal in some areas, builders of tunnels, movie theatres for banning phones?

JUST RETURN YOUR PHONE IF IT DOESNT WORK. Why is that so hard to understand?

I'm checking serial numbers for all iPhone 4 users I encounter and correlating to presence of 'the issue'.
Assuming that the numbers in position 4-5 are the week, I'm finding that week 25 phones are far more likely to exhibit the issue than week 26 phones.

Seems like a broader survey of this would be, oh, helpful? (Although not as much fun as pissing and moaning.)

Well, err, actually this would be the intelligent way to deal with the behaviour of the phone. Maybe CR could also offer some insight on their phone.

I personally think, that something went wrong in the manufacturing line. And I definitely think, that the issue only affects a miniscule amount of phones.

For all of you people shouting "My phone drops calls" - we'll start talking, when you've grown to a fraction of 5,000 people. As a matter of fact there are currently more than 5 million iPhone 4 in the wild, I guess.

So basically this is a totally overblown problem where several people share the interest to hurt Apple.

Personally, I would be miffed if I had purchased a $200 phone + $100 monthly plan to be told that I can't hold the phone with a normal grip due to antenna issues that would drop my call. It is analogous to be told that due to a design flaw, you cannot type faster than 80 words per minutes on MacBooks or that every time you touch the keyboard with 6 fingers you lose internet connection - I am sure people would be crying foul is that happened.

If apple issues free covers for the iphone that allows users to hold the phone as they wish, the issue/problem is over. There is NO need for recall, merely an apology and a free iphone 4 cover.

I disagree. Apple should continue to give full refunds within 30 days of purchase to those unsatisfied... and then bar them from iPhone ownership for life. They're simply not worthy.
