I was considering the 17 but seeing their nasty ****ing move of releasing the base models 6 months later , I might get the pro ..

Apple knows the base is getting more traction even though this post doesn't show it, and with the 17 getting 120hz VRR the gap will be even smaller. There was already a huge increase in 16 base sales compared to 15 and , if not for apple sneaky move, I imagine the 17 would have gotten even more traction
The regular 17 is still releasing in September. It’s the 18 that is moving to spring 2027.

I’d say none but I went from 15P to 16+ last year with the constant overheating and desire for bigger screen… although I’m broke, so none is certainly the current outlook!

What is "sneaky, or nasty ****ing move?" Spreading model releases out across the year makes total sense. It should have happened sooner because releasing everything once a year is nuts for manufacturing and inventory management.

in the sense that it's clearly aimed at pushing even more people towards the pro . half a year is enormous . a huge percentage of people (over 20% for the 17s i'd say, lets see) would buy the base without hesitation , but they won't be able to, so why not splurge a few more hundreds to get the pro ?

I have stuck with the Pro Max every year since the 13 and now have the 16PM. After having major shoulder surgery last year and being one armed for two months, one hand usability became a priority now. So, I am leaning toward the Pro as long as the only differentiator between it and the PM is size and battery life. I am looking forward to the smaller, lighter profile. Hope I don'y regret it, even if it's only a year.

Looking forward to getting out of the 14Pro into the 17Pro. Particularly the camera upgrade is what drives my upgrades. Also can’t believe I will be ditching the lightning charging cables.

Not planning to upgrade from my 16 Pro because I'm really waiting for a foldable from Apple.

That is unless the 17 Air is really incredible. Kind of doubt it though.

I’m on a 4 year cycle so my 16 will be here till 2029. Next election cycle how about that!

I am looking to go from an immaculate 13 with 100% battery heath (just had a service at Apple) to a 17 Pro with 256gb+ storage. I plan on playing some AAA games which have made it onto the platform in recent years.

I might upgrade my 15 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. It really depends on if Apple make meaningful upgrades to the camera, upgrade the zoom would be nice. If not then I'll wait to see Apple's foldable next year.

Although I’m pretty deep in the Apple ecosystem I’m going to look for a google phone when my 15 pro max needs a replacement. Why? It’s disappointing to see that the list of features/services that are not available for my country is getting longer and longer with every new release. After all these years it’s becoming a pretty long list. AI is nonexistent.

As a tech enthusiast I’ve upgraded to the latest flagship Pro Max model annually for many years. Currently my iPhone 16 Pro Max serves me well.

That said, this is a milestone year in which I will NOT be buying a new iPhone.

The downgrade from Titanium to aluminum is but one reason Apple has lost me. Other reasons are too numerous to mention.

Fortified by the enjoyment I get using my Galaxy S25 Ultra and Fold 7 on my second line, makes passing on a new iPhone easy this year.

I'm still mostly pleased with my iPhone 13 mini, except for the awful battery (even post replacement). Based on this experience I am not even considering an iPhone Air.

A Pro Max feels like three times the volume of my current phone, so I think a more "normal" sized phone is a good step for now. I do want an optical zoom in (the 12MP 2x zoom isn't the real deal) and I'm curious to know if perspective correction for zoomed-out photos would be better with RAW images, so an iPhone Pro is a good fit. I would also benefit from a non-reflective screen.

I'm still not 100% convinced that I need to upgrade this year and might wait another one - but I want to avoid the first version of the all-glass or all-screen iPhones as I foresee issues with those.

I've been on a refurbished iPhone Xs Max for more than 5 and a half years, and with the double fact that the battery capacity has turned to under 80%, and my iPhone won't support iOS 26, I consider it's time for a change.
Last year, I was already considering a change, but the announcement of the iPhone 16 line disappointed me, because they presented a big feature (Apple Intelligence) which was announced to be released later after the iPhones were already released (for me as French, we have AI since this April), something kinda ridiculous in my opinion. I considered that at the time, I could wait another year to have a new, more advanced iPhone. I wanted a phone change that makes sense to me, to have something new that brings a huge step-up in my daily life, and I will be really happy to have it with me for some years, like I did with my Xs Max.
So I'm going for the 17 Pro Max this year. It will be as wide as my actual one, so I won't lose my habits on this one, despite the fact that I will have a bigger screen. The triple-lens camera interests me a lot, with all of them having 48 MP. I'm looking forward to enjoying what a great complete camera system on a phone can provide, with the 24 MP front-facing camera as well. Very curious about the new thermal processing as well, the improvements between the 15 Pros and the 16 Pros, plus the rumoured vapour chamber cooling, are something I would be happy to have with me to get better capacities all day, especially outside during summer. And I definitely know I will have great battery life and performance with such a phone, so I'm taking that with great pleasure.
I think now is the right time to upgrade for me. Last year was kinda short, and waiting for another year is too far to project for my side, especially with the first rumours about the upcoming iPhone 18 who aren't very convincing in my opinion (and about the projected foldable, I'm curious about it, but I think I won't buy one before a long time).

As long as my 14 Pro Max continues to function, receive updates, and has good battery life I have no need to get a new phone. Nothing Apple has done post-iPhone 14 has moved the needle for me to want a new device anyway.

ProMax again! No regrets and don’t want to worry about the battery. Not going to give up the larger screen and keyboard.

Currently rocking a 14 Plus. Personally I don't really care about the change in material, the camera bar is something I am indifferent towards, and this is the first time I've waited 3 years for an upgrade since maybe 2011. The main thing I am waiting on to hear about the 17 Pro is...

1. Is it comfortable to hold?
- As much as I like the aesthetic of the flat sides I held a 11 for the first time in a while and was reminded of how comfortable the curved sides are in the hand.

2. Is there any catch?
- Thermal issues, quality of construction, performance problems, etc.
