I plan on pre-ordering, I guess from apple's site only because I've used it before, and learned on this thread that by entering my phone #, they'll know about my upgrade (something I was wondering about)

My only question now is, is there a need to rush on the day of the pre-order? For example, say the pre-order starts at 10AM...should I be online with my card ready or is that pretty unnecessary? My face shattered 3G is on its last legs and I leave for Spain until August on June 29...don't want to take ANY chance on not getting this phone before I leave!!!!!

So I "dialed" the *649# and it said I had to wait till December for a full discount. It said I was eligible for a discounted upgrade. Any idea what that will be??

If your eligibility date is in December, you will be able to get the full discount price. I just talked to AT&T and they said that it's just that their computers have not fully updated yet with everyone's account to reflect the discounts. They confirmed to me that anyone with a 2010 eligibility date will get the full discount.

Getting it from Apple Online Store!

Me too! I've never had any any issues ordering from apple.com and getting my order delivered on launch day. I'll be ordering two...haven't yet decided if I want a 16 or 32, white or black. Hubby wants a black 32.

Does the No commitment price I can buy one with NO contract?

I would suggest you order as early as possible. All orders are processed sequentially. The initial surveys indicate a very high demand.

I read this whole thread and I definitely want it (32 GB black) shipped to my home. I assume that activation is done by myself via iTunes.

My only question would be, is it better to pre-order at Apple's site or AT&T's? Or does it really matter?

Trust me, I plan on having Apple's website up and running at the time pre-orders go live or whatever, with an order being placed as quickly as possible, I just wasn't sure if there'd be stock issues even with the pre-order.

In reality, you gotta figure most people don't check websites like this and don't keep up with pre-orders and what not. I'm guessing I'll be alright...

Any Idea?

If you reserve @ Apple, you can go anytime during launch day to pick it up. But the following day your reservation is gone.

Nobody knows. There has been no pattern.

Please see the upgrade guide in my sig.

Geckotek,
Thanks for the upgrade guide, excellent information. Do you happen to know if doing an "early upgrade" on the 3GS in 2009 affects your eligibility date in any way? The ATT website says I should be eligible for a standard upgrade, but I don't trust that in regards to the iPhone 4. Thanks for any info.

I didn't order my 3GS until the first night pre-ordering was available and was fine. However the iPhone 4 has more buzz and you can tell just by reading these forums that a ton of people held off on the last upgrade so expect them to be jumping all over this. That being said, Apple has to have some clue that they are going to sell a ton of these and hopefully have the demand under control. Their website will be another story on pre-order day, who knows if it will hold up. :D

Ok...I'm sorry for asking this if it's been asked before. I read through the 5 pages though.

So, I'm a Verizon convert...I will be hoping to port my number, but if it's a hassle I'm not even going to bother. My question is, being a NEW ATT customer, do I have to reserve with at&t or can I reserve online with apple and pick up at an apple store? I'm hoping that being a new at&t customer won't interfere with my ability to pre-order. I'd like to HAVE it the morning of the 24th, so I'd like to be able to pick up at the Apple Store.---even if there is stupid ridiculous lines.

Yes, but not sure why most people would do this (unless you wanted to unlock and use on another carrier).

Yes, the early upgrade essentially starts your upgrade calendar over just like a normal upgrade. But if the website says you are eligible, you are eligible. I'm guessing you spend over $100/month before taxes? Did you do the *639#?

AT&T does not reserve phones. Too many problems. I just left my local Apple Store, the manager whom I know well said they are no longer taking reservations for the same reason. Both take pre orders only.

That's why I'm confused. I do not go over $100 on my primary line, and I "early upgraded" to the 3GS in July 2009, yet when I did *639# it says: "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

I guess I should stop asking questions and just be happy about it!

Verizon customers have become so bitter that they are going into any thread they can to complain about AT&T or about apple not releasing the iphone on their network. It's getting so annoying, get over it already... either get a verizon phone or switch to AT&T.... I really wish Apple would release the damn phone on verizon already so all these bitter verizon customers would **** already.

AMEN!!!

I'm sick of their whining.

Does anyone remember from past experiences if you chose to have them deliver the phone to your house, did it require a signature or did they just leave it at your front step? I would love to avoid the stores if possible but I know, no one will be home that day to sign for it.

I never had a problem with any packages that were left at that front before and there's nothing worse than playing package tag with Fedex.

Definitely pre-ordering.

I wss originally leaning towards pre-ordering for pickup at the Apple Store in Santa Monica on Day 1, but I'll only do this if I can be assured that there is a separate line for those who pre-order.

There is no way I am waiting in a long line.

I like instantaneous gratification, and am leaning away from getting it delivered, even if it will arrive on the 24th.

I have a 1st gen iPhone and a 3G, and, in both cases, I waited at least a month to get them after roll-out.

This will be the first time that I will get my new iPhone on launch day...I kind of like the idea of taking part in the excitement at a relatively high-profile Apple Store like the one on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, but if it is going to be a major hassle (or a long wait), I'll just opt for delivery.

I will follow this forum closely to see what everybody else thinks with regards to store pickup on Day 1.

well if i pre-order and it is shipped to my house, when i order it on apple do they ask if im upgrading (like it would ask for my att account then ask to select witch phone to update) so i dont have to pay like 600$, just the regular price. then when it gets to me i just connect it to itunes and it will activate the new one then the old iphone will be deactivated.

So I can't use my debit card to pre order can I pay cash or a pre paid credit card you buy at a store? I no longer have a standard credit card but I want to pre order.

It's because you did the early update last year meaning you paid 399 instead of the 199. This year you get it for 199 and next year again 399.

Is it true that if you choose In-Store pick up at ATT then you will NOT get it on the 24th?

Why is this?

Yes, AT&T posted it in their announcement.

Customers can also have a preorder shipped to their local AT&T store for pick up on or after Friday, June 25.

The reason is that AT&T has to wait on Apple to deliver their allocation of iPhone 4 units. Once AT&T receives the iPhones, they have to distribute the units to all the COR locations. Once at the COR location, the units have to be unpacked and scanned into inventory.

Blame Apple but since they provide the device they get to make the allocations.

I'm not sure about ordering from AT&T, but if you order from apple.com you can pre sign for it by printing out a form they have a link to, signing it, and taping it to your door. I always print one just in case I have to leave the house that day.

Thank you for the very informative answer!

How come they changed this up from last year? I remember with the 3GS, you pre-ordered it and ATT gave you a call the day before launch and told you to come in on launch day. I went to ATT early and had my iPhone in 5 minutes. Went very smooth.
